the perfect puppy! Instead of rescuing angain, I decided to buy a puppy. Theres a breeder close by, She has a farm and she breeds. Yorkie/crested, yorkie/bichon, yorkie/shih tzus, yorkie/mateses. Boxer/labs, GSD/boxers and some sort of bull dog.. And a few more, but i cant remember the names. I am going to get a puppy. I just cant choose whichones ! They are 400 dllars! Maybe i will get 2 ? Any advice on which ones to get? or any advice at all! |
Of course i dont want a big breed. It may/will hurt chloe. |
Without meeting them, I'd go for the Yorkie/Maltese. After you meet them, you may fall in love with another pup. |

If so, what is good abou them? |
Before my current Yorkies, I had a Maltese. They are both nice breeds. I've seen mixes, & I like the way they look. |
That's a lot of different types of dogs. Personally, I don't think I'd buy from a breeder with that many breeds; not to mention all the mix breeds. |
I'll just sit here and read if you don't mind...:2popkorn: |

There is nothing wrong with a mixed breed dog...however, there is something wrong with a person who calls themselves a breeder and mixes them for profit. |
there is nothing wrong with mix breeds, but generally a good breeder will do a lot of research before breeding. and it's always a little suspicious when they are breeding that many different kinds of breeds. |
I am confused |
you also should make sure this is not a puppy mill. Do your research and find out if this breeder that you are considering is a good reputable breeder. by the sound of it (her having all these diff. breeds) it sounds very suspicious. i would definitely do research to find out what's going on. |

No, I started it for advice on what puppy to get. And any advice in particular. After rescuing my first dog, 5 years ago, I have speant an outrageous amount of money on vet bills. I firgured buyng a healthy puppy might not make me go bankrupt:confused: |

I'm not saying the 'breeder' you're talking about is not a good one (although the chances are good) but where do you think the mixed breed puppies in the shelters come from? Buying from a breeder does not insure you will get a healthy puppy...although your chances are better if you research and find a reputable breeder who is concerned about and loves the breed they chose and doesn't mix it with other breeds for profit. If you are considering a mixed breed again please check with your shelters and rescue groups first instead of encouraging the designer dog industry. |

yes, i understand that it can be very costly and heart aches when you adopt from shelter and if they end up having health problems. to be honest, $400 for a yorkie puppie is pretty low (price wise) most of the breeders i contacted were charging a lot more for a puppy. that is not to say there is anything wrong with the puppies you are interested in. but since you mentioned that you are really concerned about getting a healthy puppy. i think it is crucial that you do your research, because just because your friend got a puppy from that breeder and is healthy doesn't mean all the puppies from that breeder will be healthy. it's quite possible that this breeder is perfectly fine, but based on the research and personal experience from when i was searching for a breeder, this one sounds a little suspicious because she breeds so many different kinds of dogs. |
Well, I can assure you that is not what i am doing. That is dumb and immature on so many levels. I would like to know what everybody who owns one of these breeds of dogs thinks of them, and what the like/dislike aout them please. |

my main concern with this breeder is why does she have so many different breeds available? it sounds like she is mass-producing puppies. how many litters at a time does she have? if she has all these diff. breeds of puppy available for sale, then i do not see how she can properly care for all these puppies, and i don't understand why she would have so many litters at once. just sounds like a bad idea, not to mention the dogs probably won't get the attention they need since this breeder would not have time to properly care for all of them if she indeed has all these puppies available. |

k9trainer......no one is jumping on you. I'm reading very important information being posted. It's quite interesting and educational to me. ~Joanne~ |
Agree with above advice. Continue your research, & since the breeder is close to you include a visit to the breeder as part of your research. Learn what to look for before the visit. Don't bring money with you, else you might buy on impulse. If you see a pup you like, get as much info as you can from the breeder. Then back home to think, & maybe do more research or ask for advice from YT members based on what you found. |
You listed eight different crossbreeds---this sounds like a puppy farm to me. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't pay for a cross-breed dog. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against them...one of my Maltese is actually crossed with Jack Russell (she looks like a poodle but behaves like a terror!)...but why would you want to pay money for a dog that doesn't have a pedigree and papers? Maybe I am old school about this, but there's no way I would part with cash for a pup I could not register. And $400? Whoa...sticker shock!! Look, there are lots of dogs...puppies too...that are being put down every day in shelters that can't handle the volume of unwanted dogs. I have three rescue dogs and love them dearly...two of them had medical issues, but the one I got from the SPCA is as healthy as any dog I bred and raised myself. Please reconsider...save a life and stay away from people who make a business of creating the very kinds of dogs that end up in shelters. |
