Reading an APRI registration ( my first one) Chloe's parents are both dual registered. I just received papers today to send in to register her. But I am getting confused on how to read the APRI reg. number. I get most of it but I don't know how to read the sex's in the litter. For example D08-YY-AB-12345D ....I know the D08 is the month and year and AB means Yorkie and the last is the reg. number and her place in the litter was 4th , correct. But does YY mean two girls were born?On the web site it says count from Z,Y and that= 2 males but then it said WXYZ = 4 females ???? what??? I do not get that part at all. How do you know if its males or females born to a litter? I have never read an APRI reg. before before and I am a bit confused. |
Sorry I am not sure, but someone here has to know? |
I believe D08-YY-AB-12345D D month she was born (APRIL) 08 year (2008) YY (I believe the first Y is males and the second Y is females) Meaning 2 males and 2 females AB (Yorkshire Terrier) 12345 (Registration NO.) D ( 4th pup born) A= pup 1 B= pup 2 C= pup 3 D= pup 4 So if I'm reading it right there were 4 pups born in the litter and your girl was the last one born. |
Are you planning on breeding? I always recommend that someone register their dog with the AKC if illegible even if they aren't planning on breeding and showing. The AKC has strict requirements for registration, and is the only registry that does regular unannounced inspections. I believe it's also the only registry that has a suspension list. As states are passing more laws raising kennel conditions, the AKC has more power to suspend breeders who break state laws. These breeders have to go somewhere and many are going to the alternative registries. Any breeder can list with the alternative registries, and you do not have to prove you had breeding rights, and you cannot refuse breeding rights to a new owner. This really is a bad situation. Here's some information about APRI: Quote:
Unless, you feel like there is some reason that you would like to support APRI, there is really no purpose for registering your dog with them. You are just supporting commercial breeders, also known as puppy mills. |

Because AKC also supports commercial breeders. They were in Goodwin Mo and patting the biggest puppy broker Hunte's Corp (which buys these commercial bred dogs) on the back and telling them what a fine job they were doing. These dogs are then sent to pet stores all over the US. AKC is a registery keeper they do not care if one breeds health problems or to the standard. And any registery is only as good, as the breeder is honest. |

AKC does do inspections of commercial breeders and have suspended many. These commercial breeders have banded together and formed APRL, they own it, do you believe that they would be inclined to suspend themselves? This is just to fool the uneducated buyer who wants a "registered" dog. Many don't understand all registries were not created equally. The AKC is far from perfect, but that can't do more than state law allows. |

And how many breeders get by for years before getting caught doing something wrong or if they ever do. AKC is not going to swab every dogs mouth in a kennel it would cost to much so even if you have an AKC registration on the dog doesn't mean the parents stated on the papers are the correct ones. How about the fact, that say someone has a litter but back dates the the birth so they can sell them sooner and they appear small. Ever thought about the fact that some limit because maybe the parents are not who they say they are and the person who bought is not likely to complain... no need to if you bought a pet pup. AKC catches some of these breeder but how many are left unchecked. Goes back to the honesty of the breeders breeding. |

You are quite wrong. APRI is not one of the alternative registries, they are a great registry, just as good if not better then AKC. AKC supports more puppy millls then all other registries combined and they are begging all breeders to come back because they are hurting for money. I heard tell a group of breeders last year that if they were not imbreeding that they were doing it all wrong. What kind of message is that? Also, brokers pay more for an AKC puppy so puppy mills regular use AKC so they make more money. There is no registry that makes one dog better then another. EVER! |
Thank you . I could not for the life of me figure the YY part out. While I am not going to breed or show her , I am planning on registering her. The AKC and the CKC were the only two registries I had heard of until I bought Chloe . I had not heard of APRI until then. Question , If a dog is registered w/ APRI can they also be registered with AKC ? If AKC registration is available should I just do one (AKC) or dual registration? Thanks again. |

The BLOODLINE is the Bloodline whether it is AKC OR APRI....some have started with AKC then dual registered with another registery and just because they changed the registery DID NOT change the Bloodline of the Yorkie......it is for the same blood it was born with!!!!!!!!! |
