Licking addictions
 
Hello ALL!!! :)

My baby boy Jaxon is a LICKER.... when i say he licks EVERYTING all the time, I am not kidding. Sure dogs lick and some lick often but Jaxon is a different case. I times him today, he licked my arm for 7 minutes and 15 seconds!! He only stopped because I moved away! He licks the kitchen floor (obvious reasons), the dresser, body parts, himself, potty pads, sofas NONSTOP! At first I thought he was thirsty but his little nose is always wet, then I thought he may just like the saltiness of the skin, but that doesnt explain his licking of objects. I googled it (which I probably shouldn't have) and ppl said he may have neurological issues :(

He's licking me right now! Has anyone experienced this licking addiction?

I have read that the licking gives a dog an endorphin release of chemicals... It makes them feel good ! :aimeeyork
My 10 month old Suzi loves to lick me... and other people ! She does not lick objects though.:aimeeyork

That is very interesting. I have a rescued Maltese who likes to lick...he particularly likes to lick the faces and ears of the other dogs, but will also lick the sofa, sheets, and my husband. He doesn't lick me because I won't let him. We've taught him the command "no licking!" so when he starts on the furniture we can stop him from a distance. He particularly likes to lick my husband's arm and hands.

If it makes him feel good, I think I'll just redirect him to one of his canine companions.:animal-pa

Both of my dogs love to lick...but particulary my Aussie. She has to clean ears, eyes, teeth:eek:, and everything in between. For the life of me, I cannot keep Gracie's topknot cute because Izzy licks Gracie the minute I put her back down on the floor. Uggg...so frustrating. I'll have to check into this as to why dogs lick and people don't. ??? What our endorphins??? :D:D:D

He's licking me right now! Has anyone experienced this licking addiction?
Sadie licks too. She loves to lick her paws, and I swear she is part cat.
Then, when it is time to go to bed, she will lick my pillow (if I don't stop her),
and then it is sloppy wet when I go to bed.

If I hold her up, she will lick the inside of my ear, my cheek, fingers, etc.

I have no clue as to why she does this.

this is AVERY!!!!!! she is our lil lizard girl! :heart to she gives kisses non-stop!!! :cool:
now don't get me wrong i LOVE my lil kissy girl..:wub: BUT it gets to be TOO MUCH sometimes-especially when she won't stop with other people!! :rolleyes:
Tim always tells her to "put her tongue away....." :p

madison is definitely the licker! she likes me, my boyfriend & riley! riley hates it though LOL ;)

i forgot to mention: she really only does this with people.. not objects or her paws or anything like that.

Our Gigi licks alot too, either it's the ground, the carpet, the couch or me or my husband she does it too....It's kind of annoying at sometimes because she will not stop until you say "NO LICKING"
Why do they lick so much? does it mean something? :p

OK, this is totally just a rumor, so please don't think I'm pretending to know what I'm talking about. But my mom's dog is a psycho licker as well, and she said she'd heard it was one behavior that commonly manifests if a pup is weaned from its mother too quickly. I have NO idea if this is true or not, but it sounds like an interesting theory?

Nikko likes to lick quite a bit too, but nothing too excessive. I just get the occasional inside-of-the-ear bath, nostril cleaning, and lip (or sometimes inside of mouth) kisses. He always dives straight in for inside licks if I ever yawn, lol.

that could be very true in My Jewels case at least because when I got her she would try and suckle on you. She was only 8 weeks old and very small for her age

hahaha We call Mya lizard too!! She could lick my face all day if I let her!

Interesting! Cali was 9 weeks when I got her and I think they took her away from her mom a week earlier.

Yep, same here! I'll let Turk lick me a couple times, but nothing excessive. My husband says he doesn't mind, so have at it, Turky! lol I've never liked dogs licking me, but it's a little different when it's your own, I suppose. :p

Dogs can OCD issues just like people do!
