Licking addictions Hello ALL!!! :) My baby boy Jaxon is a LICKER.... when i say he licks EVERYTING all the time, I am not kidding. Sure dogs lick and some lick often but Jaxon is a different case. I times him today, he licked my arm for 7 minutes and 15 seconds!! He only stopped because I moved away! He licks the kitchen floor (obvious reasons), the dresser, body parts, himself, potty pads, sofas NONSTOP! At first I thought he was thirsty but his little nose is always wet, then I thought he may just like the saltiness of the skin, but that doesnt explain his licking of objects. I googled it (which I probably shouldn't have) and ppl said he may have neurological issues :( He's licking me right now! Has anyone experienced this licking addiction? |
I have read that the licking gives a dog an endorphin release of chemicals... It makes them feel good ! :aimeeyork My 10 month old Suzi loves to lick me... and other people ! She does not lick objects though.:aimeeyork |

If it makes him feel good, I think I'll just redirect him to one of his canine companions.:animal-pa |
Both of my dogs love to lick...but particulary my Aussie. She has to clean ears, eyes, teeth:eek:, and everything in between. For the life of me, I cannot keep Gracie's topknot cute because Izzy licks Gracie the minute I put her back down on the floor. Uggg...so frustrating. I'll have to check into this as to why dogs lick and people don't. ??? What our endorphins??? :D:D:D |

Then, when it is time to go to bed, she will lick my pillow (if I don't stop her), and then it is sloppy wet when I go to bed. If I hold her up, she will lick the inside of my ear, my cheek, fingers, etc. I have no clue as to why she does this. |
this is AVERY!!!!!! she is our lil lizard girl! :heart to she gives kisses non-stop!!! now don't get me wrong i LOVE my lil kissy girl.. BUT it gets to be TOO MUCH sometimes-especially when she won't stop with other people!! Tim always tells her to "put her tongue away....." :p |

lick, lick, lick Our Gigi licks alot too, either it's the ground, the carpet, the couch or me or my husband she does it too....It's kind of annoying at sometimes because she will not stop until you say "NO LICKING" Why do they lick so much? does it mean something? :p |
My Jewels is a little licker also |
OK, this is totally just a rumor, so please don't think I'm pretending to know what I'm talking about. But my mom's dog is a psycho licker as well, and she said she'd heard it was one behavior that commonly manifests if a pup is weaned from its mother too quickly. I have NO idea if this is true or not, but it sounds like an interesting theory? Nikko likes to lick quite a bit too, but nothing too excessive. I just get the occasional inside-of-the-ear bath, nostril cleaning, and lip (or sometimes inside of mouth) kisses. He always dives straight in for inside licks if I ever yawn, lol. Lauren & Nikko |

Dogs can OCD issues just like people do! |
Constant licking can be an obsessive behavior Kind of like tail chasing It's a form of self-consolation like when a child thumb sucks The best way to calm it down is to keep the dog active and busy so he doesn't get into that licking mode |
Toby will lick the skin off of your face if you let him. He doesn't lick furniture and stuff he just loves to give kisses. He can drive you nuts. He was not taken from his mamma early so that is not it in his case. He is just a needy little bugger. Very affectionate and always wanting to be cuddled. A whole club of little lickers...:p |
This is gross, but Mia loves to lick my sons feet... He gets a good foot massage every weekend when he comes to visit...:) but the weird part is that she only likes one foot. If he sticks the other one up for her to lick, she won't, but quickly goes back to the one she likes. Ever heard of that?:animal36 |
my darling is licking the floor now and has been for the last 15 mins. i googled "yorkie likes to lick carpet" and the forum came up. don't know why i didn't think to come here first anyway. she loves to lick the carpet! she'll lick me to death if i let her. she's perfectly healthy. she's just a licker i guess. :D |
i hate the licking of the hands, the arms, the fingernails, the ... ugh no licking! you get use to it but it grosses me out. you know what else grosses me out? he goes after socks, and underwear! dirty OR clean! they can be in the hamper and he is in there digging through the holes trying to get it out.. or licking at them from the outside in... what the heck! |
My Fletcher is the same way, he will lick and smell everything pretty much. I don't see him licking floors too often, but he'll lick sheets, blankets, clothing, and most else in between. Your baby does sound a little obsessive though. I thought Fletch licked a lot but your baby licks wayyyy more! |
Lillie was a licker but she has grown out of it much. She liked EVERYTHING the first 3 weeks that I had her. I mean EVERYTHING. I had to keep an eagle eye on her! She has since then, grown out of it. I got her at around 3 months (now 4 1/2 months) and she quit about 3 weeks into her new home. Another thing that she quit doing is POO EATING! That just grossed me out! I did try giving her one little piece of pineapple and she won't even touch the stuff now! I love YT! HAHA! :animal36 |
My late Binky was the licker of all lickers. Like yours--everything! He lived to be 17. His late co-companian never liked anything excessively. When you get one, you get one. Just get used to wet furniture. |
lol, My Finnigan is a licker too! Body parts, toys, clothes, blankets... he's a licker! He even knows we call his licking "kisses" and will start licking when you say the word... |
