You ever kept your yorkie's puppies? I asked a friend why she didn't breed her westy, who is now a senior. She told me that she never did because she would end up owning 4 to 7 dogs. She would never be able to let go of the litter. After that conversation, I had thought of the possibilities of breeding trixie with the only porpoise of keeping the pups, because I want to have about four yorkies, in the house. I think her mother had only a couple, but what happens if she has seven!!! I have another 6 months to think about that. what do you think? |

I am looking at the pros and cons. So far, the vet told me she stoped growing. If this is true, breeding is out of question. That leaves me with another dessition to make, and if you ever read my threads in the pasts, you'll know, that I have being wanting another dog for a while ( not specialy yorkie). |

I don't know much about breeding and I don't have the interest to do so but if I have a female Yorkie and decided to breed her, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something happens to her or the babies but that is just me. Maybe do more research and talk to your vet and other experienced breeders before you decide. |
I wouldnt breed for these reasons.. my dogs mean more to me than a litter of puppies, I dont enough about the subject to even consider it, I couldnt handle loosing the entire litter, I dont think I have the drive to try and keep a litter of puppies alive if the mom was to reject them,my friend has hand raised several litters and just by her experience it is not something I would want to do and I have 4 children that I know would become very attached to every puppy and we would keep them all. :) The people we got Tucker from are friends of ours, they have 3 children and when it was time for us to take Tucker home, the kids didnt handle it well. It broke my heart to see them so upset, they knew from the beginning that the puppies werent theres to keep but it was still very hard for them. One of the kids actually asked Santa claus if he would bring Tucker back to them. :(. We take Tucker over there as much as possible but its still not the same. Good luck with your desicion!! :) |
Well, no one has answered the orignial question, but everyone has sure tried to make you feel guilty for wanting to breed. So, I am curious and I still want to know if anyone has kept puppies from their litter? That is why I opened this thread. Does anyone have any useful information on this subject other than why not to breed? Ok, let the flaming begin.... |
Ive seen several people on here that have kept thier puppies,maybe not all of them but one or two out the the litter, maybe they just havent posted yet???? I didnt make her feel guilty for her wanting to breed, I posted WHY I wouldnt want to breed and one of those reasons was because I would end up keeping all the puppies.. if she wants to breed and keep all of the puppies more power to her, its her choice as to why I said "good luck with your decision". Maybe others posted what they did because breeding isnt to be taken lightly and there is alot to consider before you put 2 dogs together for the fun of it. why do some people purposely choose to start a debate??? (rolling eyes) |
I did keep a female back out of a litter. Then when it was clear I wasn't going to implement her into my program, I had the choice to place her or keep her as a pet. Of course, we were all attached to her, which I knew would happen, so she happily lives with us now as part of the family. |

I am not saying that these thing will happen, you just need to be prepared that they might. If I only had one Yorkie that was the love of my life, I would never risk her life just to have some more Yorkies around the house. I would buy another Yorkie first. I think I got confused. I will answer the original question without any judgement ... Yes! I had a litter of four on Halloween last year, and I kept 2 out of the 4! Phantom & Brandi (my "twins"). The other 2 went to friends of mine -- it's a good thing because it was so hard to give them up! I would have kept them all - if I didn't already have other yorkies! Now, my total in the house is 5! |
yes, I had a litter of two and kept them both and they all (all 6 of my dogs) get along great! |
