groomerkiera, Your post makes me kind of Angry.. To say that they didnt have excersize or training when you do not know their owner is wrong. They did. Like somebody posted before. They are wild first, then demestocated. I am glad i am being educated here and I have learned alot from reading everybodies posts. I cant believe that you think goldens attacking is an unusual occurance:confused: Retreivers still have a prey drive even though they are retrieving animals. What makes them get up and go when an animal is shot and they have to go get it. They have to have some sort of drive for that dont they? | Hi Honey, I am SOOO sorry for hurting you, in no way was I trying to. My heart is with you.
* They dont have a prey drive, they have a retrieving drive with soft mouths.
I have been an animal behaviourist for 11 years and have been training dogs for over 20.
Yorkies are very delicate and can be harmed easily of course, but in Sophies case, imo very well trained dogs would have been on a down-stay and not moved. She should have not been any threat and couldve been allowed to jump all over them and growl etc. Goldens arent independent thinkers like Yorkies. They DESIRE to have a person to tell them what to do, and live to obey, Goldens who would fight or be unruly most likely dont have adequate training, because they prefer direction and alpha owners. Whereas Yorkies are independent thinkers, and while they love us, they have their own ideas and will pursue whichever benefits them best.
It is also important to note that Yorkies can be nervous dogs which can make other dogs attack them. Dogs communicate in many ways, by body posture/language, show of teeth, telepathically etc. Noise being the least used. It is probable alot of communication happened in very little time without your being aware, and with her size she didnt have a chance. All of us with small dogs worry about this.
PS Perfectly kind people have unruly dogs and dogs that need more training. I wasnt insulting the owners, but it is unfortunate that this happened. Training saving lives.
I hope you find peace with your sorrow, and have good friends and family to help you through this. |
