Finnigan hates the cold so walks are out of the question. Once it drops below 50/60 in the fall he start shivering. Also, for some reason our covenant won't allow us to build fenses in our yard. He also will not go back to using a pee pad so upstairs off our deck we have two ex-pens in a horseshoe shape at the bottom of the stairs and down stairs we have a tie out with a string leash we just put him on. We let him out and he's really fast at doing his business in the cold! Last night it was 7 degrees outside so we had him in his sweater and I got his huge coat out, which he hates, but it keeps him warm so he'll wear it for outside! Tomorrow its supposed to get even colder so we'll see how he does, last year he would still use pee pads every now and then, but now he will not. Luckily, we've not had much snow because he doesn't like it either, but we shovel him off a path and he has booties to wear. |
not such bitter cold! 1 Attachment(s) Here in Alabama, we usually have about 1 week of real "winter" and it sounds like this is the week. Gucci is really good about going for his potty walks. My husband was under the impression that if he had him out in the yard with him, that we don't need to walk him. . . wrong - Gucci thinks play time is in the yard and potty time is when he walks. We've had a few mistakes in the house this week, due to that mistake! Even when the temps go down in the 50's I dress him in his little jacket. Attaching a photo of Gucci in play mode - t-shirt weather! Kathy |
Only one week of "Real Winter" in Alabama? Sounds like heaven to me. Gucci is adorable. Is he silver or white? |
We still do our walks..but they are shorter and faster! |
I don't take little Pixie out if its very cold or wet..she has to make do with indoor play and quick toilet trips to the garden! but I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier that needs exercising whatever the weather!:thumbdown |
Oh geez, I'm shivering just hearing about all your cold weather. I wish I could send you all a little sunshine as we have plenty here and it probably will be in the 80's again today. I don't walk my dogs at all, they have a big fenced yard and 2 story house to chase each other around for exercise, and potty on the grass or on pads if they need to. I don't want to expose them to risks of encounters with ticks, fleas, big dogs and traffic, even though I need walks a lot more than they do. Hang in there for the artic blast that's hitting many of you.:snow::snow::snow: |
Here its very cold . The little ones have their snowsuits and booties on for walks . What really bothered me is when the power go off . Actually , we all have our coats and boots on because power just came back and its cold in the house . Praying for spring to come back very fast . |

It really tough when the electricity goes off in the winter months. Glad yours is back on. Think of the poor guys who have to work outdoors to get those lights back on for us. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr have no idea how they do it. Spring can't come to soon for me this year, it's been a bad winter and it's only Jan.:( |
And here I am feeling so guilty sitting in 81 degree weather yesterday and today and is supposed to continue having July weather. My three girls are pee-pad trained, but we don't use the pads except at night, on rainy days, traveling and motels. I do highly recommend pad training for the little dogs. It's a blessing! |

Your lucky lady. However, Bud is 16lbs so walk he must. Or walk I must. The thought of using a pee-pad in winter is a dream that won't come true for me. |

It hasn't seemed really bitter cold here yet , maybe once or twice but that's about it. Chloe uses the potty pads but Sydney goes outside . We still take them for walks daily or every other day. If it got bitter I may reconsider that:D but for now we put their coats on and go for walks. We all kind of love the cold and snow ( which we have yet to get:() around here ...but I'm quite sure bitter temps would change that for me ;) |
Dymond loves to go outside. She acts as if she is not cold. When it is time to come in she will start shivering, but once she is in the house she runs straight towards the dryer because she knows that mommy has a warm towel to wrap her in. |

Congratulations on your smoke free lifestyle. I love to walk, always have but 13 degrees is freezing and I want spring! NOW:p ain't gonna happen tho. |
Its 15 degrees here. Luckily my boys go on pee pads or on the patio where I don't have to go out... BF has a fenced in yard but I have a Houdini Escape artist so I have to stand out there and watch him while he goes out. My boys LOVE the snow and the cold does not seem to bother them either. Sometimes though their little paws get too cold and if I can't coax them to limp to the house then I have to go out through the snow to get them. ooohhh I miss summer soooo much! Or spring... or fall... lol |
I am sat here in England laughing at all the winter comments and wishing we had just even a little bit of snow to have some fun, but NO we have rain again, again and again. Buddy hates going out in the rain and wont even nip out into the garden for a wee, I have tried to take him out, but he anchors his feet into the foot path and wont budge, so thanks to the person who invented pee pads!:D |

I just look at the news , weather woman said temp is beginning to drop again and be prepared to be evacuated if needed . I kept the little ones snowsuits and boots near , just in case . |
Yep! Tucker is like the mail man...he walks in rain, sleet, snow or cold. :p We don't stay out for too long when it's bitter (usually about 20 minutes) but that's only cause that's the longest I can take it! He couldn't care less! Most of the time he won't even wear a jacket cause he HATES clothes and the only sweater he had that he would wear he outgrew. :( |

Tucker sounds like Buddy! Two peas in a pod they are Megan. Stay warm. |
I know exactly how you feel. I don't have to take the girls out but I do take Snoot out. I actually just had him out a few minutes ago and I was begging him to hurry up. :p He didn't seem to care. |
as i read the topic of this thread, you read my mind. i was thinking about having to go home now and walk lexi in this frigid weather.omg!! i hate it. i walk her every single morning and and evening.. at least twice a day.. i have to.. i feel too bad leaving her cooped up in the house all day while im working.. sometimes during the evening walks, she passes right by the house, she wants to walk more.. heck no lexi!!! are you crazy!!! mommy is freezing her canolies off, i tell her... and today.. i need a face mask.. tomorrow and friday will even be worse.. and to boot, i live a block from the ocean, so the wind is throwing me all over place.. sometimes i cant even see, i have to walk her looking at the ground cause my hood is so tight on my head im afraid to look up or the hood will come off and my ears will freeze. its not fun |

LOL I'm sitting here looking at the clock thinking it's getting close to walk time. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr Living so close to water must be horrid in the winter with the wind. I live up in the mountains and I swear we get more snow there because it dosen't have a chance to melt before it hit's the ground. LOL |
lol, 20 more minutes.. oh god im dreading this... |
