| Hello from Canada Just want to shout out to say Hello to Everyone from Toronto, Ontario Canada. We are first time dog owners and got ourselves a female yorkie puppy from a breeder last year in Ontario. It was always on our bucket list after retirement to have a dog and so glad we chose to have a Yorkie. Bella is almost 14 months old and has attended a couple of puppy dog training schools for training and dog socializations. However she is still shy and timid at times and afraid of most of the dogs that are bigger than her at training or on the street. Otherwise she is very friendly to everyone. When we first got her at 8 weeks old, she was about 2 pounds and today she is 6 pounds. I'm so happy to join your Community and am reading and learning a whole lot of valuable information about yorkies from your discussions. Thank you very much. |

| Welcome, your Bella is adorable! My Tibbe was fearful of everything at first. I always kept positively reinforcing behavior I wanted, encouraging him to ignore big dogs he might fear with food distractions, turning him in fast circles, showing him a beloved squeaky toy, when a dog he might fear was on approach, passing (always kept pouch of special treats in pocket when had Tibbe out and about during his formative first 2 yrs), so he learned big dogs coming toward him, passing by, meant goodies. Now he has only retained fear(by history, spent 1st 9 mos. of his life alone in a cage in shed outdoors!) of thunder at times and certain odd electronic sounds on TV but other than that, now he's a fearless little toot out to conquer the world. Hope you enjoy this forum as much as I have! It's a blast here, a caring, engaged, Yorkie-savvy community of folks to know.

| Thanks Yorkietalkjilly for the tips. Sorry to hear that Tibbe was in a cage for the first 9 months and so glad that she has a loving family now. Tibbe sounds like a friendly dog. I hope Bella can be less timid too. |
