Cutting the legs off our King bed...We are definitely owned by our Yorkie! Yeah...you know your Yorkie owns you when you will hack the legs off of your nice Ethan Allen four poster bed! Ralphie fell off the bed in the middle of the night last night :eek: Scared me to death!! He was fine but it must have been absolutely terrifying for the poor baby. I just panicked and held him and cried. Our bed is sooo high off the ground and we have wood floors and no rug. I know this sounds just ridiculously irresponsible, but he has never ever had a problem. It really is no excuse though, trust me I know. My bf and I had discussed just cutting the legs down so it will be much shorter and getting a really soft rug to go underneath. I hated to do it, but after last night we both agreed, it is a must. Ideally, we think we might get a platform bed that is really low to the ground, then maybe little Agnes might get to sleep with us as well. I am not even bothered by it...I told my bf "Saw that sucker down!" I don't even care anymore! Anyone else ever resulted to damaging/altering precious furniture for the sake of their baby, ha ha?? ;);) |
awww i think this makes you a great yorkie mommy!!! i would do the same thing! :) in fact, my current bed sits really high off the ground and i am deciding on a new bed...i am leaning towards the low platform ones (where you do not have to use a box spring) so the kids can jump on and off without getting hurt! the things we do for our kids :p ;) |

Yeah the platform beds would be much safer and I really like the look of them. My bf is afraid that it won't be as comfortable w/out the box spring but I used to have one and couldn't tell a difference. I will have to post a pic of our "converted" platform bed, ha ha. |
well it was an accident and you are trying to figure out how to not let it happen again ... please do not beat yourself up! and i would love to see pics of the bed (before and after)...EA furniture is not cheap so i am thinking it is going to be kind of hard to do but you will figure out whatever is best :) and if you or your BF is handy, i bet you will make it look great  and i have never slept without a box spring either now that you mention it...i did not think of that lol...however i can fall asleep anywhere (airplanes, those uncomfortable airport chairs, in cars, etc) so i think it will be okay hehe :D |
Can your bf perhaps make some stairs, then you can upholster it with cool fabric? I would be a fun project ;). |

And I am the Princess and the Pea when it comes to sleeping :p. I am very particular to the point of it being obsessive almost. So if I can handle the no box spring thing...you definitely can! :D:D |

Yes, I was going to suggest steps or something for your little one to get down safely. :aimeeyork |
I definitely want to get stairs, that is for sure. I think the bed needs to be a little lower though too. It is the tallest bed I have ever seen :p It is hard just for me to get into, so it is not the safest situation. He could have hurt himself so bad, and I think he just rolled off accidentally while he was sleeping, so even if there was stairs, it could still be a problem...it was really scary. |

That's what I did. I bought padded stairs for small pets (3 steps) and a wicker trunk. Prince has a very soft faux fur bed mat on top of the trunk. The initial thought was to have him sleep on that, but he uses the steps to get to the trunk with faux fur, to get to the bed!! He's the only one who sleeps well. My husband and I sleep with one eye open because we don't want to roll over on him. He only uses the trunk and steps to get on and off the bed, which is also pretty high. |
The top of our mattress is up to my waist !!! And I'm 5'6" !!! We have a ramp to the square hassock to the end table to the high bed table to the bed...They just about have to climb up 2 miles before they get into bed !!! LOL And the most important thing we have is a night light on so they and we can see where we (3 yorkies) are before we turn ....It's a king size bed and my husband and I fell like sardines !!! |

We went further than this. We have our box spring and mattress directly on the floor and we also have well padded carpet. Steps sound like a great idea but I know several people whose dogs fell off and didn't use the steps. It's not worth it to me to rick my babies having a broken neck |
OMG - that is hilarious! That's LOVE for sure! lol |

In the morning, Agnes starts to cry so we have a leash hooked up to the headboard and I harness her in, she can't move very far and she just goes back to sleep. I keep checking on her too, so that hurts the sleep cycle as well. |
