5 1/2 week old yorkie pls HELP! so i bought a yorkie pup 3 days ago. crackhead lady was selling it for 800 hundred. she told me the pup was 5 weeks n 3 days old; she said the mom stopped breast feeding them and is neglecting them so she feel its time to sell the pups. and me not knowing much about the breed i got it cuz it was sooo cute. after i got it i went online to do a lil research n found out its not suppose to be remove until 10 to 12 weeks. i tried calling back the breeder but shes ignoring my calls, i dont know what to do. the dog looks healthy, hes been drinking pup milk but he hasnt poop yet? dont know whats going on? tonite we decided to feed him sum wet food, hopefully he will poop. i called the vet and they told me he should be fine, just keep feeding him n keep him healthy, n come for a doctors visit at his 6 week. i know for a fact shes not going to give me a refund, she prbly used it on crack or watever. n if i give it back she is going to try to sell it to sumone else. i just hope my pup will be okay. can i bring the breeder out to court? what should i do? |
Hi and Welcome to YT. I think you should put your message in the Breeders section.....so breeders can give you the best advice on feeding such a young pup. Best Wishes, |
I would turn her in. It is against the law to let a pup go that early. those poor babies. |
You need to get some puppy nutri-cal in case its blood sugar gets low, keep it warm and get it some soft food. also you might have to take a warm wet cloth and softly rub its bottom to help it go poo and pee. like the mom does when she licks it. dont take the pup out side and or around other animals with it not having any shots. Ill keep your pup in my thoughts and prayers. |
It sounds like he will need constant care for a bit. If he hasn't pooped in three days and stimulation isn't working, he has to see a vet. I'm not sure about the laws in your state, but in most there are restrictions on when pups can be sold. |
If this woman is indeed a "crackhead" you need to kiss your money goodbye and focus all your attention on the pup. I agree with the above that you need to see the vet asap. They will help you with caring and feeding such a young pup. Please let us know how you make out. |
WELCOME to YT. :) I would get to the vet ASAP. This pup is very young, and extremely vulnerable - and will be for quite awhile. I would recommend you post in the breeder's section right away and ask for help on how to care for this puppy who should truly still be with its Mother. There is a puppy gruel recipe somewhere, which I think you'll need. You'll need to feed frequently in the day and may need to get up during the night for a while. You should buy Nutrical right away (Petsmart/Petco). I would not be allowing any shots for quite awhile - the vet should know this as well. But if they try to push shots, refuse. Puppy is too fragile. I really cannot express how fragile this puppy is at this age - so I'd really encourage you to gather info here - and to get to a vet asap. BEST OF LUCK. :) |
This puppy will probably need round the clock care for awhile also. If your not able to give that I'd find someone reliable that can. Wylies Mom and the others are giving great advice. Are you familiar with the yorkie breed or small dogs at all? If not....read read read. |

Keep him warm is right. Even a heating lamp would be good. When Z went through a bout with elimination problems, my vet recommended very gently inserting a LUBRICATED thermometer rectally just past the tip of the thermemeter. It stimulates the colon. I don't know if this is right, but I wouldn't think the puppy was finished nusring yet, and would bottle feed the formula for a while. How much does he weigh? I wouldn't try to contact her again, but definitely report her to the authorities. She has no business distributing those babies at this age! |
Oh, and welcome to YT! There is a TON of wisdom out there on this forum, and wonderful, wonderful people. Bless you for trying to do the best for your little baby. |
I highly recommend you get a good quality dry puppy food and grind it in a blender until it is very fine and just leave out a small bowl of this for the puppy. The puppy will lick the food and it will make feeding easier. You can continue letting the puppy have the puppy formula also. Be sure to leave the pup confined to a smaller area where he can get to his food and water. If the pup has problems with constipation you can put a little karo syrup in his water. Do you know how much the puppy weighs? |

I would say keep the pup warm and in an confined area as well. Nutri cal is great and also if you have dry food, add water or puppy milk to the food to soften the food so the pup can lick the food. Good luck |

I am so sorry you have ended up in this frightening situation. I live on Maui and know that there are so few Yorkies available in Hawaii, we can find ourselves in less than optimum circumstances when getting one. My Tiki came home at 7.5 weeks (yes before I knew better), but fat and healthy and eating. Luckily I am home full time so I was able to be with her 24/7. You need to do this too. What is the weight of your pup? Is he one of the ones I saw advertised as Yorkie/silky (maybe mix), recently? You should already have that 6 week vet visit scheduled, or are there. They will give you the best advice, and members here will also be helpful. Watch that pup constantly for signs of hypoglycemia, and have nutrical available if needed, or karo syrup. Your pup isn't getting natural immunity if would get from mother's milk. Be extra careful not to let pup around other pets, and don't put him on the ground outside until he is much older and has shots. Parvo is dangerous, and can put him down very quickly. Post updates and you will continue to get lots of good advice and support from the wonderful, experienced members here. Good luck, and welcome to Yorkie Talk. |
he is fine now, he started eating wet food, drinking water, and puppy milk. i am soooo happy this morning when he finally pooped. i really hope he poops tonite. how often do puppy poo? oh yea n he also got fleas. i cant get him anything until hes bigger huh? poor thing, he stratches himself all the time. i try to pick out of those fleas but their too fast. oh no i got him on the ad kiji, its the lady name jaysa selling it for $1,000. she is also the lady that went under the BILLIE, she is the one scamming ppl. saying how she got yorkies for sale n when they get there, there wasnt no yorkie. its just very sad..... its jst really hard, i worry all the time, im scared my pup is goin to died becuz hes tooo small. im taking him to the vet next week which marks the 6 week mark. |

You have received such excellent advice, I just wanted to stress the importance of getting some "Nutri-Cal". It's cheap! Also, do you know how much your puppy weighs? We will be thinking of you guys, please keep us updated. |
petco has an excellent isle that will give you all the supples you need in this situations. Never done it, but I love to browse. |

Now that he's eating, he'll probably do plenty of poo; it's amazing how often they potty when they are young. This will taper off as he gets a little older and holds it longer. Good luck, and do keep us posted on your baby. |
ok i dont know if its normal to worry this much, i had him for 4 days now, he only poo this morning for the first time. all day im been feeding him milk, wellness wet food n water n he still not pooping whats wrong? sumone on here told me to use a warm towel n rub his butthole, so i made my husband do it, it still didnt work. is there any other way to make him poop? n thank you all for the lovely advices, im so new to this, i feel like a bad mom cuz i dont know what to do to this puppy. his belly is soo fat lol its cute. |
You can try feeding him a little canned pumpkin, that helps both constipation and diarrhea. Put little bits on your finger and feed him. Make sure he's getting plenty of water. Put warm water on a cotton ball and massage around his anus (similar to how the mom would stimulate). It is not uncommon for a pup to be scared the first few days, and can result in constipation. |

I hate to hear that this has happened. Thank heavens it seems it has a wonderful new mom to help. I am by far not an expert but I did alot of reading up before our we bred our lil girl and we just had the experience of having to handfeed our litter. I would recommend at this age to mix the puppy formula with wetfood, then wean onto wetfood only, then slowly mix in dry with the wet and finally dry only. Keep water available. I think the puppy will need plenty of interaction with you since you are replacing the mom and littermates all at once. The 10-12 weeks was not only because of teat weaning but also mom and litter companionship weaning, this was a vital time for behavior learning from its littermates and the mom. I hope this helps. Good luck with your new baby |
You have gotten some excellent advice. I only have one thing to add and that's about your vet visit. When you go to the vet, DO NOT let him touch ANYTHING in the lobby. Carry him in a carrier, take him out only in the exam room, and put him right back in to walk him out. Also, don't let anyone touch him there aside from the vet and the tech that your are dealing with. If he's super tiny and stressed, his immune system will be weak and he could become sick easily. I cannot even imagine having a 5 week old puppy!!!! |
My Bella came to me at 5 weeks old. Like your baby she had fleas too. Her whole body was covered from head to toe in them. In such a young pup these fleas will make them very enemic. You need to get them off. What you can do is fill your sink up just to the pups neck with warm water, like a warm bath. This will soak a good part of the fleas off. After, drain the sink and and then use DAWN Dish Detergent and cover his body, after taking a warm towel (Warmed int he dryer - but not hot) and wrap him in the towel to keep him warm. Leave this all on him for five to ten minutes and then after, back to the sink and rinse him off good and then blow dry him. After all this is done, you will need to go through him with a flea comb and a pair of tweezers to pick off the remainder of the fleas. You may also have to repeat this again in a day or two until they are all gone. DO NOT USE ANY FLEA MEDS ON THIS BABY. IT CAN KILL HIM. In so far as feeding him. One of the breeders has a recipe for mush. I forget who but you can post it on the breeder forum. Also, what I did was get puppy milk from the pet store and put it in a small bowl and would offer it with the pups food. Use the wet food, until the teeth come in. AND, I would also reccomend giving the baby Nutrical in the morning, afternoon and night to keep his sugar up. How much does he weigh? Is he a bigger Yorkie or a little guy? Also, Please take him to a vet. He really needs to be professionally assessed. At night keep him in a nice warm dog bed with a blanket and also some soft food (They make soft morsels) and some water. He should be alright with the right care. Elaine |
just an fyi a chubby belly can also be a sign of worms. have your vet do a fecal as yorkies can go down fast! |
You sound like you are going to be a wonderful mommy. Prayers to you and your new little one. :) |
CAn we have an update on this little puppy please ? Thanks :aimeeyork |
I agree with Lolapup Focus on the pup not on court. In court, animals are considered possessions to be treated as owner sees fit. Spend your money and energy on the baby, and o promoting smart breeding/purchasing education. |
