I never should of started this.... Lately I have been giving the babies veggies in the evenings. Just some carrots and peas and green beans. Well now Tatum comes to me every single night (AFTER she has already eaten her veggies for the day mind you) and whines and cries for more. She doesn't bark - just cries. Cries, cries, CRIES for veggies! And I know that's what she wants because I'll look at her and say, "Tate, WHAT?" and when I get up she leads me straight into the kitchen - stands in the exact same spot that she eats in....and just stares at me. :questione She looks at me like I am completely insane for not having another bowl of veggies waiting for her. :eyebrow2: I just do not know what to do with her. She will do this for the longest time! And to be quite honest it is driving me nuts! lol. Should I just quit giving them to her or what? When she eats them she acts like she is STARVING - she just inhales them! I seriously have to take a video of this...you guys would die. lol. You'd think I haven't fed her in days or something the way she eats them...it's crazy! And last night she even threw them up, her peas and carrots. Well come to find out, she has been swallowing them WHOLE! Every little green pea and every little cubed carrot came out the same exact way it went in! WHOLE! OMG. She has to have something wrong with her lol. She eats too fast and she is constantly hungry...this is NUTS!! She is crying right now for more dang veggies. What do I do??? I can't just keep feeding the little oinker! Omg help...someone please help lol....do any of your babies do this?? Please tell me I am not the only one who has an oinklet  |
Hmm.... I'd say if she's throwing them up, she probably doesn't need any more. :) Have you tried hand feeding her so she doesn't eat them so fast? What kind of dog food are you feeding her, and how much? How much does she weigh? Over/underweight? I think it's great your baby likes veggies, so I would keep feeding her. Maybe you can feed them to her as treats, so she has to earn them. |
Don't laugh, but I saw a Dog Whisperer episode of a dog that kept eating her poo and they found out it was a deficiency. Started giving her bananas and that cured it. So, do you think that this is a sign that something is missing from her diet? My dogs love most veggies too. I start with a little pineapple and end with those whole baby carrots (raw). That takes them awhile to eat, especially since they keep stealing them from each other. I wish you luck. An unusual problem for sure. |
1 Attachment(s) Look at her! She is just begging! :( Whining and crying the entire time :( |
Nope you're not! Gucci is an oinker too, he does this with food and cheerios because that's all he gets, otherwise he'd most likely do it for everything! He gobbles all of his food up and then licks the bowl clean and then proceeds to stare at me and stare at where the bag is at then back to me .. then the kaos begins...:p he starts tearing up everything in site and barking and whining PURE DESTRUCTION lol .. He will literally eat 4 WHOLE servings a day with no problem (I only allow 2 sometimes 3 depending). He does the same thing with the cheerios, I have to distract him to get away from where they are and keep him busy .. DRIVES ME NUTS ... I really don't know what to do about it myself, maybe I can get some advice to. I have recently ignored the behavior and it's gotten a bit better. Another thing I've done is break down his feedings into smaller feedings 4 times a day when he's having a chubby day. Maybe you can do that with Tatums Veggies? Just a few at a time several times a day? instead of one whole serving. I don't know how much help that would be but it may do a little bit of good as she will realize they are coming more frequently and she doesn't have to worry that the veggies are "gone forever"? A little reverse Psychology :p |

I will definitely try the hand feeding thing. I have done it a little here and there, but for the most part I just put a little bit in a bowl for her and let her eat them. I do like giving her green beans as they are fillers and I think it helps her NOT go to the food bowl so much during the day  However, it seems now that she just wants more green beans! Or carrots or peas, or whatever I'm giving her. I just can't win lol. |
Awww , she is soo cute ...how can you resist that little face:confused: give her the veggies :p... No sorry , I'm a pushover. I can't resist her little face and it's only on a screen  Maybe you can give her a little carrot by hand instead of in her bowl so she can't eat it so fast and will maybe chew it more. Maybe give them as treats throughout the day so she doesn't think they are another meal ? |

I think you're right - maybe she really does think that her little veggies are "gone forever" - LOL. Good grief...what a little oinklet :p I just might try what you mentioned and start giving them to her little bits at a time throughout the day instead of one bigger serving  I gotta tell ya though, it is so nice to hear that I am not the only one with a baby that eats like there's no tomorrow! :p |

SIGH! I am going to try giving them to her by hand tomorrow, and am going to give her smaller amounts throughout the day instead of a bunch at once, like someone above just mentioned :) |

Oh Brooke I know just were you are coming from. These three love veggies and fruit too! They each have their fav. For Bogey is is oranges. All I have to do is start to peel one and he start doing FLIPS! :p Pebbles is raw baby carrots, celery and GRAPEFRUIT kinda girl:eek: YES I own a bunch of crazy out there little ones. Doodlebug is my baby and will eat anything. :p Not to mention watermelon, cantelope, cucumbers, green beans, popcorn  But I make them earn their treat, they always have to do a trick for mommy:p I feed Natural Balance too plus I add canned pumpkin to the mix once a day so my pupsters get a lot of veggies too.:) I don't see the harm in giving them to her if she is hungry. If you think she is eating too much and she really wants the veggies cut back on her food a little. It sounds like you are feeding the tiny cut up frozen stuff, what if you gave her raw baby carrots like I give me guys? Maybe she would take her time eating and slow her down a little. If you are giving them as a snack I would just cut out the other treats you give her and balance things out. :) |

Oh and yes, she is eating the frozen veggies. I steam them for her and Steddy :) I will have to try the raw baby carrots and cut them up for her and Stedman too. She will choke to death trying to eat whatever she can fit into her mouth lol, while Stedman on the other hand won't touch any piece of "whatever" if it is too big. Geez, are they the total opposite or what, lol. Thanks for all your help girl - you are always so great! |

LOL :p |
I can never get my two Yorkies to eat carrots , now they love peas but thats about it, they like pineapple too. Now my Boxer loved to get ahold of a whole carrot she would take little bites off and spit them every where as fast as she could, never ever eating them just spiting them. we would give her one and sit back and crack up laughing, it was so funny to watch we never did know why she did that. |

P.S. - My babies love pineapple too :D |
Ah Brooke I know how you feel. Maxi would be just like Tatum when I would give him chicken with carrots. I started to hand feed him so that way I can control how fast he was eating. I also would say eat slow. After a while I switched back to giving him chicken and carrots on the plate. To my surprise he started eating slower! You know once they get into their habits they always demand. :D For example, Maxi gets his special treat every day at 5 pm now he demand it even after he gets one. He stands on my lap and stares at me then looks at the kitchen. :D |
That pic is WAY cute. She has had me wrapped around her paw forever! You tell her that this little piggy can prance her way right over here and have all the veggies her heart desires, as long as I get her kisses! |

He is a lil fatty at heart! I always joke with him and tell him he's not a real Yorkie he must have been a piggy before this life :p he would eat forever if I let him! Good Luck and let me know if it works at all ... I am curious |

Aw, come on ma...feed the poor girl her veggies!!! :D |
Shes so cute Im afraid Id be giving in too. Mine love melons like that. They could eat it till it came out of their ears if I let them |
CeCe gets going with this squeaky little bark that sounds like ,well, sneakers on a basketball court....every time she hears me chopping something on the cutting board!! She thinks it's vegggies or apples for them!:animal37 They both love their veggies and pick them out from the rest of the food I mix them in! When they get their fruit snacks, they eat them with such gusto...so funny to watch!:yelrotflm If only our skin-kids loved their veggies like that, right??!! It must be so difficult saying "no" to that adorable little face!!!! |
How can you resist that little face?! I got the same problem with my 2. They go ga ga over veggies! I use them for treats when we do tricks and they can't do their tricks fast enough. It is so funny, they go through the whole routine of their tricks even before I ask them. I also put them in their food. But I usually smash or grind up the veggies along with their kibble. Maggie is a little sneaky oinker...she has picked the kibble clean of the other stuff and spit the kibble out on the floor! After she has eaten all of the other stuff, if she is still hungry, she will eat the kibble or Hot Rod will. I have had to pick her up so he can eat! You would think she hasn't eaten in days! lol. |
veggie yorkie momma too bailee and chewy both love vegetables and fruit. veggies even more than fruit. i have pics of bailee eating raw pumpkin at only a few mos. old. i was carving it in the floor and he stole some and got caught. lol. at thanksgiving this year, i was making homemade dressing, and chopping celery and a bite or two hit the floor, and like the little hoovers that they are, they ate it and loved it!! they like raw squash, any vegetables really. and mine scarf food too, bailee is bad for that, he wont chew up his food either, i had to get even smaller kibbles in his food, b/c where he doesn't chew it up, he would throw up too and now he doesnt. if u give your yorkie veggies, just cut them up really small. |
1 Attachment(s) uh, you are so NOT alone! We have three pigs in our house! Piglet is what I call Wrigley anyway! We mixed green beans in with their dry food. We buy the french cut and I mash and mix them together, they LOVE them! They love carrots too, but Camden doesn't seem to digest those very well! I've posted this before, but this is a pic of Wrigley and Camden standing in the kitchen staring us down wanting more food, Camden is even falling asleep waiting! Wrigley whines and cries like Tatum does too! You just have to love them! :p |

My Dexter is a 5lb PIG! :) He will eat and eat and eat until he throws up if I let him. Not his dog food though, oh no. He does not discriminate either. He will eat pickles. Seriously last night I was giving them little pieces of veggies from the salad I was making, some red pepper pieces, cucumber, mushrooms and Dex will eat them all, Fletch does not like mushrooms or cucumbers but he loved the red pepper. Whenever anyone is in the kitchen Dex is right there waiting for something to fall. He whines, jumps on my leg to be fed something. The worst of all is that I don't feed them people food all that often at all, so I have no idea where this expecting it comes from! You'll have to teach Tatum a word that she'll know that means to stop or go somewhere else. If I say "Kitchen" to my boys they both go to their bed in the kitchen away from the food where they cannot beg on me. Its helps me a lot! :) |
