need some advice Ok so my friend has a 5 month old yorkie girl. She found her at her grandmas house its a long story but the person who owned her( my friends cousin)was a dumbass!! The owner bought a yorkie to breed, and sell she just wanted to make money and after she did that the momma yorkie had like 5 pups....and the owner didnt take care of her at all!!! The momma sad to say got hit by a car and died, all but 1 pup died i guess, the cousin kept her until 3 weeks ago...i guess she got sick of taking care of her because she dropped her off at her grandmas house in the "cat room". Thats when my friend found her. The grandma didnt even know she was in there!!! Anyways when my friend found her she was all matted and in bad shape, so she took her to the vet and groomers and everything. The vet said some bad things he said she has a heart murmur ;( and she needs to be seen by a specialist. So now my friend doesnt want her and she wants to give her to me and my boyfriend ...We have no problem taking her, I know my boys (peanut & pigpen) will love her!! Does anyone know info on a heart murmur....We are going to take her to our vet. We get her tomorrow. I feel so bad for her :( poor thing people make me so mad. She is 5 months and 2 1/2 pounds... i guess one vet said she is not able to get spayed because of her heart murmur...thank god my boys are fixed!! Does anyone think this is a bad idea...good idea... I need some advice please.... |
Most puppies out grow heart murmur by the time they are a year old. I don't know what grade she has, so it just may be that she will need surgery when she's healthier. If it's something your not able to afford right now, then I would let United Yorkie Rescue take her. They do wonderful things, and making sure all their rescues are well taken care of and wonderful homes found. |

When I took my new biewer in(she's almost 7 mos now and right around 2 lbs), the vet said she heard a small heart murmur also, but, she also said sometimes in smaller dogs you hear more than you would on a bigger dog. Maybe your vet will say differently |

How old is the puppy? If she were 12cweeks old or older and i were you, I would take her too. i do not know much about heart murmer's however others have said that their is a good chance she could outgrow it. I think this little pppy needs plenty of love and attention. Give her lots of good food too. It looks to me that your heart is in the right place, and ready for a chalenge. Take her, and love her ! ;) |
Puppies can have what are called "innocent" heart murmurs that they outgrow. She could also have a very serious heart condition. You won't know how serious it is until she is seen by a cardiologist as the vet suggested. I don't know what your financial situation is, but you could be looking at some huge vet bills with this puppy. She is also very small for her age. She needs to have a bile acids test done, too. As Yorkiedaze suggested, you might want to contact a rescue group if you are not able to care for her yourself. |

:( Well we went to the vet today and he said that 1-5 her heart murmur is a 5 and her out is extremly enlarged....so tomorrow we are dropping her off to get a ultra sound to see whats causing it....The vet said she might have 6 months to live...as of right now until tomorrow we get the ultrasound. So right now we are at 200.00$ and tomorrow will be 300.00 but we cant help it my boyfriend and I are trying to do the best thing for her. So please pray for our little girl...he did do blood work and he said that her blood work is normal. So i hope the ultrasound will tell us that we can just put her on some meds and hopefully get some good years out of her i will be extremly upset if we only get 6 months, but if thats the case then we will just leave her be and give her the best 6 months she can have. wish us luck :) |

Oh, I am so sorry her heart murmur is so serious. Bless you and your BF for taking her in and loving her in spite of her prognosis. :big_hug: |
Lots of prayers for the both of you tomorrow. Please keep us posted. |
Bless your heart for giving this special little one so much love. I'm praying for you all. |
Poor baby... It just break my heart to hear things like that... so unfair. But at least she found you and your bf. Two people who are willing to take not only a financial chance, but also a emotional one too. Try to be strong for her and make her life the best if can be, whether she live another six months or 16 years. You should be proud of yourself! I wish you the best of luck and will be thinking of you both tomorrow. Keep us posted. |
*sighs* 1 Attachment(s) Well we all just got back from the vet a little while ago...our little pixi had her ultrasound today and it isnt good :( So baby girl basicly has a tetralogy of fallot which is -Tetrology of Fallot is a complex combination of four congenital heart defects. The four heart defects are: Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) , Pulmonary Stenosis ,Right Ventricular Hypertrophy ,Overriding Aorta :( Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) The heart has a wall that separates the chambers on its left side from those on its right side. This wall is called a septum. The septum prevents blood from mixing between the two sides of the heart. A VSD is a hole in the part of the septum that separates the ventricles—the lower chambers of the heart. The hole allows oxygen-rich blood to flow from the left ventricle into the right ventricle instead of flowing into the aorta, the main artery leading out to the body. So the vet doesnt give her but 4 months at that...I am at a loss of words, we have had her for only 2 days and I feel like she has been with us this whole time. So now what. The vet said there is no chance for her, he doesnt even think we should keep her on the lasix....He said in time she will start to collaspe and have hard time catching her breath and her gums will start to turn blue. I asked him if she was in pain right now and he said no, not until she shows those symptoms. So my boyfriend and I have have made the choice of just keeping her how she is with no meds....and waiting it out until she shows those symptoms, then we will put her down. She is so playful and full of spice with my other 2 boys...she goes around and sneaks in the back of them and bits their ankles...then after that she barks at them and runs away..I hope non of you think we are bad people for keeping her alive until the time comes, but if you guys were to see her I am sure you would think the same, she doesnt act like she is sick one bit! We have to keep her inside because she cant have vax's, and we have to TRY to keep her calm...when she starts playing really hard she starts coughing...We are just going to give her the best of life... (she is getting away with EVERYTHING) So thats that. |
My 2 yr old son was born with a VSD, so I know a little about them - I actually know a lot of medical stuff becasue my 5 yr old son has been battling cancer for the last 2 years but thats another story and website in itself.:) Anyway, are they not able to close it surgically? That is so heartbreaking... She is such a doll too, I will be saying a prayer for her. |
What a sad story but im happy she has you...i would get a second opinion. If that vet says its going to $$$$$$$ and you cant afford it then you really need to surrender her. Good luck but i know you will do the right thing for this helpless little soul.... |
What a beautiful little girl she is. I think you are doing a great thing and giving this little angel the best in the time she has. You never know maybe she will surprise you. God luck to you all |

Well today she was seen by the specialist...she doesnt just have vsd she has 7 other things wrong with her heart as well....I told him I didnt care about the money I just wanted to get her fixed and he said honestly it is out of his hands. To do sx if she even was considered for it would be risky she wouldnt even be able to handle going under. You guys dont understand my boyfriend and I tried everything we are at the end...I hope to god that there is a miracle and she can last longer than 4 months I really do |

My heart aches for you. I have been there, done that, not with a heart condition, but lesions on the lining of the brain. Unless you have been there done that with a baby (fur or skin) who has a terminal illness that cannot be fixed -- well you just can't understand the pain. My best advice is to just love her and cherish every moment you have. About when it's time to let her go - listen to her and she will tell you. |

Those that are suggesting surrendering her to a rescue group are the ones who don't understand. A rescue couldn't so anything more than you are plus they wouldn't take her anyway since she is unadoptable. Such a sad story. :big_hug: |
I don't know much about heart murmurs, but I am so sad that she has been treated so bad. |
I am so, so sorry to hear this news. I was truly hoping for a much better update. I think it is so wonderful that you are giving this beautiful little girl the best life she can have. Yes, if you can get a second opinion, go ahead and do so. Some doctors just know so much more than others. And beyond that, I am hoping, just hoping for a miracle. Sometimes the strangest things happen, unexpected but wonderful. Your little girl is beautiful! :heart to She, and you guys, deserve better. Off the topic, we just got that same little bed. We are keeping it in my son's room so Lexi has a place to lay down when she visits him. |
It is wonderful that you are giving her a good home. I cannot imagine how hard it must be. I join others in hoping that the vets are mistaken and that she enjoys a longer life. |
:) So just an update on our pixi...She as of right now is doing GREAT!! the vet did send us home with lasix and said we can give it to her, to help and might give her a little time...those of you who know about lasix....well she is a peeing machine and not always on the pad :) but bless her little heart tom and i (boyfriend) just let her do whatever she likes :) we dont have the heart to punish her :) the boys are getting annoyed with her poor guys, she LOVES them and LOVES to play and sometimes the boys dont want to, but thats when she gets some spice and bites the back of their ankels :) they "put" up with her..they are being really good with her. I have never had a girl yorkie before its crazy how different they are from the males!!! She is a BRAT!! She trots around the house like she is the princess!! Now she tries to bite our feet when we walk around the house...Oh and I have a cute tank top shirt and a sweater for her and I swear it takes me 10 mins to get it on her!! She bites and growls and wiggles around...she does not like the fact of me dressing her, but once it is on she is ok with it :) I am going to try to get some pics up of her so you guys can see how cute she is!! Until then...thank you all for your support it means a lot to me!!:aimeeyork |

BTW, we will also say a special little prayer for your boys. May they have patience while they are learning to love their new little sister. Take care, |
