going to the bathroom in the crate? ok,well bailee never has accidents in the house BUT she does go in her crate!!! I never have to take her to her pad whens shes out,she knows to go there but its like she has no problem just peeing and pooping in her crate.she just lays in it!!! eww!! i let her out plenty of time during the nite. Do you think she will grow out of this?oh,and the crate is small,so thats wy she has no choice but to lay in it...any tips are appreciated!! |
I have the same problem with my 2...no matter how many times I take them out in the evening they still pee in their crates during the night - both of them! :( And I have made the crates smaller...anyone have any ideas?? |
thank gosh its not just me!! i clean their bedding and crate nonstop to get rid of the scent but nothing helps! |
anyone? |
Well, Its very strange that a dog will soil its "Den". Have You tested for a UTI? May be pshycological. Neither dog will whine during the night do they? |
its strange, ive never understood how moms hear their babies cry at nite(i sleep like a rock) but now I wake up at the least lil whimper...anyway the second i hear that i get up and let her out...vet already ruled out UTI, but you may be on to something with the psychological, the breeder left her in a large crate peed pad on one end bed on the other, could this be it???the light bulb just went off... |

I wonder if this is some form of separation anxiety at night in the crate. |
shes still very much a baby, shes only 16 weeks.this isnt new,she does amazing for being so young when shes out and about, I can almost trust her to have free run off the house after having her only 2 weeks!nights are just the prob, with her being so you hopefully she will grow out of it,any ideas of how to try and correct it? |

another thought...she does this occcasionally if i leave her during the day,but almost always at nite |
The crate is probably still too big, they need to be no bigger than allowing the dog to turn around and stand up. Joey did the same thing until we put him in a small car seat type of bed. If that is the size it is, then you also need to clean it with Natures Miracle to get all urine smell out, or she will continue to think that is where she is to pee. This includes bedding and blankets as well. When Joey was a puppy, I let him out twice a night to pee. He slept next to me, and woke me, and I placed him on a pee pad in the bathroom, and then back in his crate, eventually it was just once a night, and then he moved to our bed. :D I think you are reading too much into it, she probably just has to pee. |
Oh, She is still very young. All night long may be too long for her to hold it. I may suggest setting your alarm clock for every 3 hours for a few nights and see how things go. My mom tells me that when we had our samoyed husky, She didnt like to wake anybody up and she would got in the corner and pee. Its weird how the dog knew that you didnt want to be disturbed while sleeping..lol.. I think its just a puppy thing. Her bladder is stil QUITE small. |
yes Natures Mircale is my best friend lol!!! i clean crate bedding everything!!! i get up so many times,i just dont understand how there is anymore left in her!! i even pay close attn to when she drinks so i kno when to expect potty time... |
Do you have another dog? |
no but the op does, she metioned her two do it also at the very beginning,i think i said their when i should have said her earlier, i was thinking about the op...if any of that makes sense lol |
Also forgot to mention in my past 2 posts that, if your dog really needs to pee, As soon as she relieves herself, That in itself is her reward. She is rewarding her bad behaviour herself, even though she probably knows she isnt "allowed" to do it. Isnt it fun to pick apart dogs brains? :p lol. I love how "strange"(different) dogs are |
I think we should both read over the entire thread and see if either of us can peice something together..lol..Its worked a few times for me.. lol |
i really think you were on the right track with the pscyhological thing, esp now that i remember how the breeder had her trained...i just dunno how to go about correcting it,im up all nite letting her out.... |
Finnigan would do this when he was younger. He was in a small cat sized crate, and the smell of his accidents would make him even more sick. I don't think he knew how to get my attention to let him out when he needed to go. So, before I let him out I started to reach through and have him scratch at the door so he'd learn to signal me when he needed let out at night. I'd reward him if he'd actually go potty by letting him stay out of his crate for a little while, if he didn't go potty I'd put him right back in. To help during the night when he was especially young, I took his water away after 10 or so just so I could sleep longer than an hour before he'd have an accident. I have a really sensitive nose and his urine would even wake me at night. He would never whine or do anything until I taught him to paw the door. |
My Baron was 1 in Nov. I've had him for 6 months. He goes in the crate no matter what size it is. I use Nature's Miracle by the gallon and wash his fleecie blankets daily. During the day I take him out with my 7 y.o. Papillion and he'll do both outside. I bring him in and I have pee-pads down, But, he'll go on the floor anyway. He's in a crate @ night as soon as I hear him scratching @ the crate and whimpering I run him out!! He was checked for bladder issues and he's fine. I think he enjoys sloshing around in urine and other things... Hopefully, someday he'll get it!! If not, oh well I'll buy stock in Nature's Miracle. He wears a manly belly band too!! Oh, I LOVE him soo much... |
im glad to hear its not just me lol |
