Question for everyone with 2 or more furbabies... After taking Riley with me to California and him getting to play with my moms dogs and my aunts dogs.. I know he'd really like having a little playmate to play with while me and my boyfriend are at work. He did so well with them! I've been looking around and I just found out that the breeder I got him from has 2 girls available.. and I emailed her to let her know I was interested. He's going to be 8 months next month.. is that too soon for him to get a baby sister? How long did you all wait to get your next puppy? |
I don't think 8 months is to young. I have two dogs , but we waited years to get our second. Syd is 3 years and Chloe is 8 months and we just got her 4 months ago. I really wish we would have done it sooner . It seemed Sydney had " only child" syndrome for a while. They get along now ,but sometimes I see Syd lift her paw up over Chloe and I can almost hear her saying...I am so gonna slap the crap out of you.... Sisters:rolleyes: |
My male is 7 years and my female is 7 months. I soo wish I could have gotten a second sooner because the little one always wants to play and the older one is never interested. |
I waited 2 years before I got Kodak a playmate. By then he was so territorial and mean that I was on yorkietalk crying for help. He finally gave in to her but he can still be evil. I wish they could've grown up together so he would'nt be so mean to her. I had to get him neutered to so he wouldn't get her pregnant. I didn't want him to get her pregnant, but she will be spayed eventually. |
We're so nuts we have three puppies My girlfriend and I bought a Yorkie baby boy while vacationing in Lake Tahoe in August. I didn't know what I was in for because I'd never had a Yorkie. FELL IN LOVE! We were so crazy about Tyson we got another a few months later we had -- baby girl Jayla. Now we have a 7 month old and a 4 month old puppy. We love them so much we got a Morkie that we just picked up last night, Braxton. He's about ten weeks. Sounds crazy but hey -- we don't drink or do drugs, just adore our puppies and play with them and treat them like our babies. They are getting along quite well and we make time for all three as well as free time for them to play together. All three are cuddling on my bed as I write this. Eventually, we plan to get one more baby girl. |
Annie was a "loner" until she was 14 when we adopted DJ (6) and Harley(12). We adopted Zack (3) and Zeke (2) Jan 08. It's easier and more fun for everyone if they are close in age. They can have fun and grow together. Although one will usually become the more dominant hopefully having two close together in age and time in residence will minimize the dominant dog factor. |
To be honest with you, if you can handle two pups, I myself, think it's easier to get them closer in age(such as what you're wanting to do). Pups are so full of pee and vinegar, and as a dog gets a little older(my youngest up until last month was 3 1/2)they don't want to play as much. My 3 1/2 old liked playing until the pup came, and then it was like "I'm too old to be playing with a young puppy). They do play together now, but, when my son brought his two 1 year old yorkies over yesterday, they were all over the pup wanting to play..Go for it! |

I got 2 at the same time, same liter, 2 boys! I don't think it was any harder than getting one at a time. Actually probably easier, they learned everything together and I only had to teach/train once. |
miss buffey was an only child for about two days before her first brother came along ... they are the very best of friends :) |
This is probably a nice age to add one, although potty training can be tough at both of those ages. Wylie was about 2 when we got Marcel, and I have to say - Wylie was rather upset as he was an only fur-child for 2 years. When we got Marcel, Wylie felt very insecure and needy for a good month, so we really tried to help him feel important and to adjust to his little brother. Now, they are great friends - they play, wrestle, bark at invisible things together. Marcel definitely assumed "younger brother" role, but it works for him as he's tiny. So, I think if you get another baby now vs. later, it might help w/ adjustment. :) |

thanks everyone for your input :) my boyfriend and i decided it would be a good time to get another baby and we're going for a baby girl this time (that totally sounded like i'm going to have a real baby) i found out that the breeder i got riley from had a litter recently of 2 girls and one boy so we went to see them today and we fell in love with the smallest girl. she kept licking my face it was so cute! it was so hard to decide between her and her sister because they were both playful and everything :) shes going to be about 9 weeks when i go pick her up. riley and her will have the same dad but different moms! |
