| Wierd Biting Habit... Ok, so I know that several people have experienced Yorkies biting, and maybe thats just a part of their breed-however- my baby is about 5 months and outside of the "play" biting, she will bite when I'm putting clothes on her-she absolutely HATES when I dress her... I mean she tries the "draw blood" bites and I'm not sure why she lashes out behind that, when I dress her EVERY single day, so it's not as if she's not use to it. Another thing I noticed-ever since her first experience at Petsmart she lashes out when a towel is wrapped around her or even remotely close to her..and I'm wondering if thats why she feels like she does when I dress her... has anyone experienced this type of biting?? I mean she doesnt do it any other time except when she's getting dressed or has had a bath and gets dried off... I do tell her "NO" and wait for a few and try again but the same thing continues to happen... I've always had PitBulls prior to my Yorkie so this is a HUGE difference in temperaments....what do you all think?? Any suggestions?? |

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | Firstly, Welcome to YT! Since she is only 5 months, there is still hope that she will grow out of it. Perhaps something did happen while being groomed in the past. All you can really do, is what you are doing. Keep dressing her - repetition is the key. Eventually she will learn that is doesn't hurt her, and you're going to do it anyway. Good luck!

| Hi! Welcome!! The first thing that you should always rule out with behavior issues - is there any pain that is causing the behavior? And not pain as we might perceive it, "Oh it's just a cotton shirt, that can't possibly hurt her." She might have static cling going on with the clothes. Or maybe her hair got caught one time and pulled and she is remembering that. If she is going to this extreme, then she is REALLY trying to tell you something. It's your job to figure out what that is. I would start with a towel. Sit down somewhere sort of confined (but not so that she'll feel trapped) so that she has to stay focused on you with her favorite treat and a towel just sitting on your lap. If she'll sit close to you quietly then give her a small treat. Bring the towel closer to her and when she starts to get nervous stop, wait for her to relax and give her another treat. Keep doing this until you can get her and the towel to sit next to each other. (I know it's hard to get a towel to sit, but I have faith that you can make it happen. ) Then proceed with getting her to touch the towel, sit or lay on it, have it laid over her, then eventually wrapped loosely in it. This may take several sessions. Watch her body language closely, don't push her past the point were she feels she needs to defend herself. At first maybe only 5 minutes at a time. If you could do it consistently every day it would be best. Lots of treats and praise and do something totally fun together afterwards for a little while too. I bet once you get the towel problem solved it won't take too much to overcome the clothes problem.
