Yorkie questions

Can anyone tell me a little more about the breed ?
I've been wanting to get one forever.
I've been on a few sites looking up about them.
But I'd like to see what owners thought of the breed.
And had a few questions!

Are they ok with bigger dogs? [my husband has a lab]
Are they good with traveling?
How are they in all different kinds of weather?
Ex. How are they in cold weather and snow? And hot weather?
What is there energy level?
Are they easy to train?
(I plan on getting an older dog not a pup though)

Do they like to be with there person or are they independent ? Are they clingy if they need to be with there person?

Do you prefer them clipped or long haired?

Most of these depend on the dog. Some are yappy, some are quiet, some are fearful, some love everyone, some bite, some are the sweetest dogs in the world. It really depends on how the dog is raised and the boundaries given to the dog. I will answer these based on my experience with one Yorkie (I recently got one). Max loves all dogs, from Chihuahuas to Great Danes. He will play chase either way. He loves the car, and looks out the window or sleeps. He loves rain and sunny days, as long as he gets a walk. We do not get snow here but I know he would love it!

He has bundles of energy. You should read this article: Choose The Right Active Small Dogs For Your Lifestyle | Small Dogs Paradise . It pretty much says Yorkies are a high energy breed, but do not necessarily need a ton of exercise. Max was just as energetic with four walks a day as he was with 1 (he got neutered and I was told to not exercise him too much with his stitches). He gets them out in a few days. He is stubborn, but he is very smart. He knows the tricks but will only do sit if I don't have a treat.

Once he gets basic obedience I plan on doing agility with him. He is very agile and loves to run and jump over things. I feed him, take him on walks, bathe him, take him outside, and train him, so he definitely is more attached to me than my parents. That doesn't stop him from getting super excited when anyone comes home or when he sees another dog or person on the street. If I walked with him off leash and there was another person or dog he definitely would forget about me to go meet the person. His hair is cottony but only tangles if it's more than 3 inches and I plan to keep it in a longer puppy cut (he has thin hair so I don't want him to be bald!). I love the longer look in dogs with silky hair. My little guy doesn't fit the standards, he may be a little too long, and his hair the wrong type, but that doesn't stop him from being a great little dog!

Good luck in your search. Be patient and do not adopt a dog that you will not be happy with for the next 15+ years. Be prepared to start over with potty training as well since it would be in a new surroundings. I made that mistake since Max was potty trained but at my house he started going in the house.
