Unsure if My Yorkie is Purebread Hi there, My mom and boyfriend surpised me with a "teacup," if you will, yorkie for my birthday. When they brought her home, I was shocked because she looks like a hybrid of a chihuahua and a yorkie and she was/ is super tiny. Apparently, she was born on October 4th, is between 8-9 weeks, and is purebread. My mom said she saw both the dam and the sire and they are both registered purebread yorkshire terrier through AKC. I did some research and i saw on a site that a dam may be impregnated by two different dogs and can have a purebread and a half breed in the litter. I'm a bit skeptical about everything, so I just want some clarity. Also, I am concerned that they the people who sold my mom the dog gave her - Suki - to us at less than 8 weeks. If you could please give me any feedback, I'd appreciate it. I have links in this thread so you can check her out. I did come across a site that showed yorkie's puppy stages and saw that one of the pictures looks just like Suki. Website Yorkshire Terrier, understanding yorkie puppy vital growth stages how to be a puppy *Look at the 4-6 weeks picture with the 2 puppies - she looks just like the one with her mouth open |
hmm... well because of her hair- which should be quite a full thick coat- i'm going to guess that she isn't pure... bUT i could be wrong. She does look 1/2 chi to me but ah- who cares :) she is beautiful! Did she come with papers? if she DOES have a pure mom and dad who your mom said are both AKC- she should have come with papers too then. either way- you got a beauty. She looks very tiny and probably did come home too early- but you have her now so love her up :) What is her name? |
I agree with Marci. She does look like she had a little chi in her, but she's adorable!! |
She could be purebred. She has a thin, wirey coat. Which is not uncommon. I have washed young ones and when they're wet I could've sworn they looked like chihuahuas. Did you receive AKC papers? BTW, she's very cute! |
you know i got my baby from i guess what's called a backyard breeder, she had yorkie's posted in the paper for $350 so i called her when i spoke with her she seemed very knowledgable but she referred to the puppies she had for $350 as "the ugliest in the litter" but i said being a breeder she is shooting for certain standards so i would come see what she had. when i arrived she had 4 puppies in the house 2 as she said were her ugly ones and the other 2 were beautiful. She explained these were puppies she sells for 1200.00. I noticed the ugly ones had slightly longer legs but they were adorable the 2 other ones "were" beautiful but to me they were too small for me they weighed about 2 lbs. and cost a whole lot more. But you know i took an ugly one home with me because to me he is beautiful He is 5mos old tomorrow and weighs 5 lbs now. since i only paid $350 for him she would not give me papers (said she did not register that litter) but it really doesn't matter to me i love him. he has a great personality and i get compliments all the time of how beautiful he is and you know they are right!! He is just as pretty as those tiny ones she had. __________________ |
Well, I think she's very cute! It doesn't matter what she is :) |
Thank you I've grown quite fond of him veryfast! |
Do you really expect a 8 - 9 weeks old pup to have a full floor lenght coat . To the OP give the puppy a chance to grow up before cryimg for nothing . |
2 Attachment(s) Here are 2 pictures of Ti-Pou , the first one as a puppy and the other as a young adult . Of course as a puppy , peoples rejected him but when he began to grow a coat someone came and adopted him . |
To me it looks like it might be a mix, but I agree with everyone that he is adorable either way. If he does turn out to be a mixed breed, keep in mind that mixed breeds are often healthier then pure breds. If it matters to you, then if people ask, say YES he is 100% pure yorkie, and I can trace his family tree all the way back to England! His great-great-great-great grandmother was a ratter for the Queen! Who's going to contradict you? ;) |
Your puppy looks to be quite young. And I also think that the pup looks Yorkie to me. I think that given 2 to 4 weeks, when the pup is 10 to 12 weeks old it will look a lot different and it's hair will be a bit longer and fuller looking. Your puppy looks a bit like my Yumi Yasha did as a baby, my breeder sent me weekly photos of her, and she is 100% Yorkie as that was the only dogs my breeder had. |
It is reallyu easy to find out. The test is very affordable120. total. Save your money, because I can tell you, that is a yorkie. |
By the way, love love love the ears |

Give the benefit of the doubt... "Lesser" animals are just like humans in that there are variations in phenotypes. My little girl looked like a mini German Shepherd until she was around 7 months. After that I don't know exactly what happened but now she looks all yorkiw, never mind that she is ALL TERRIER!! Just take a look in my albums how much she has changed since April. :animal-pa Trevor |
