I rescued my Zoe from a shady lady that was running a puppy mill.. (NOT anymore!!:cool: ) Well I had been worried about her 'barker' for awhile, I have had her for over a month and never heard her make a peep.. A few nights ago we were napping on the couch.. at 2 am her bros had to potty.. when they were ready to come in they were raising cain and I guess it scared her and she started 'barking' it was the saddest thing EVER! I am so sad!! I have read about how they do that, but my own baby had it done :(( I have noticed when she is really thirsty and she drinks a lot she kinda coughs a bit... I wonder if she is going to have throat problems???

Oh my gosh, that sounds awful!! I've heard that mentioned before, but don't know what it is. How on earth do you de-bark a dog???

this sounds alot like my Stormy. I have heard her bark a hand full of times in the last two months. It took her a while to bark. And she also somtimes coughs a little bit after she drinks too fast I notice. Give your little rescue a little more time, they need the extra patience and TLC I have noticed it takes them alot longer to come around. I think it all depends on how comfortable they feel in your home. The few times Stormy has barked it is when someone knocked at the door and she would start barking. She doesn't do it everytime, I notice it's when she feels shes the queen of the house lol

oh no, mine doesn't sound like that, so sorry to hear that, I just know it took my baby a while to bark, how horrible :(

Well there are 2 ways.... you can pay a vet to surgically do it, but fro what i have read... DO NOT READ IT YOU ARE SQUEAMISH~~





They take a metal rod and 'ram' it down their throats to destroy the voice box im so sad

That poor baby. Glad you rescued her and she's safe now.
It's sick what people do to helpless animals. They will get their's
on day. An eye for an eye I hope.

Congratulations and good luck with your new baby.
I am sure you have already made it up to her over and over.

oh my gosh..how sad. :( My uncle had a dog that was debarked, they got it from friends of thier and didnt like it barking all the time. :mad: Anyways when he would bark it was a wheezing sound too kinda like he was coughing.
I didnt think Vets did debarking anymore?

Your post made me feel so sad. I think the sound of a de-barked dog is the worst sound in the world. I'm glad she found a great home with you. :)

She is the BEST dog! She follows me EVERYWHERE! I feel guilty getting up when she is sleeping, I hate for her to wake up for me to get up to pee lol. I feel so adored by her! :D Can you imagine an 8 yr old dog that has NEVER been in a house? never been hugged or kissed? all she did was pop out pups! She lives a VERY luxurious life now ;) lol She even has a velvet type dress w/'pearls' lol

she is beautiful!! I can't believe what people could to do an animal that is just plain horrible, I didn't even know they did that to dogs :( thank you for taking her in and showing her love!

One of my "friends" I had when I was in middle school had her dogs barker taken out because her parents didn't want the dog to "wake the baby".

Unreal, then she should have gotten freakin fish!! Barking is part of being a dog, if ya don't want to hear, don't get a dog!! This is just so upsetting!!

I'm sorry she and so many went through this. You are correct with you second version. Most millers us that way. They are too cheap to pay for medical help so you know they won't pay for a surgical procedure. Either way is cruel but over course the second way being the worst. I have five rescues. Four have a sad story with Noel's story being the saddest. It will take a lot of time for her. Some take longer then others. Rescues make the best companions because they are just so thankful to have found a good home where they are finally loved. Please, talk to the vet about her cough and your suspicions of her being debarked so he or she can make sure nothing major is going on from how she was debarked. Keep us posted on how she is doing. And thank you for taking in a rescue. Elaine

I am sure your little girl will find ways to communicate. Just know that she loves you.

I want to let you all know how good you have made me feel.. I am blessed to have my furbabies! Reading all your praise has brought tears to my eyes! When I saw her my heart filled with love and a need for her... I knew she was in a bad place, I had to get her out!

I even told my hubby I would re-home her, he agreed, but now I believe she is staying lol! He hasn't mentioned her moving since a week after i rescued her... in OCT! lol I believe she is 'OFFICIALLY' my baby!

I agree 100%. They had an adorable Sheltie... but honestly the "baby" was 2 years old and I'm pretty sure the barking wouldn't have disturbed him that much... not only that, babies don't need pure silence when they sleep and should be exposed to SOME noises... I mean REALLY?!

Im glad your keeping her. Poor little girl. She is so cute.

The little boy I just fostered had been in a puppy mill his whole life and was debarked :( I felt like crying every time he tried to bark. I dont understand how any human being can treat a tiny little helpless animal so horribly.

Oh God...this is SO awful :cry: Your poor baby girl :( I am so, so sorry that this ever happened to her. de-barking is absolutely TERRIBLE. Those freaking Mills DISGUST me. :mad: :thumbdown
