, and the other one stands up. I really want them to match. Is it okay to tape the one floopy ear? How long should I tape it for. Btw, she is teething right now. She is 16weeks old. I have seen the floopy ear stand up once or twice since we got her at 10 weeks. Thanks!

I'd almost bet that they both will stand up and match just fine even if you do nothing. It is perfectly normal for ears to go up & down during teething. My Tiki's ears (which are on the large side) didn't both stand up until 5 or 6 months. She looked pretty funny during some of the transitions.

Thank you so much. I have been worrying myself sick about this. I've tried taping her ear a couple of times but I never keep the tape on for more than a few hours because I worry that I have not taped it correctly. No vets or groomers in this area will do it for me, and I keep reading that I need to tape before 6 months if I want them to stand up, after 6 months ears won't stand up... Then I see all these different ways to tape, different tape to use, etc. etc. Whew!!

My Squirt's ears were both down when I got him. The vet told me that they would never stand up since there was no cartiledge. I accepted it. Then, after about 6 weeks one stood up. Then, about a month or two later the second stood up. I did not tape. It happened naturally. I don't remember how old Squirt was when I got him, but he was about 4 or 5 months old. So, it can happen without taping.

I know just how you feel. I spent so much time worrying about Tiki's ears the first few months, it was ridiculous. When they were down, I loved the floppy look, and hoped they would stay that way. Then one came up, but not just straight up, it was up & toward the middle (that's what I called the unicorn), and the other still down. Eventually that one stood up properly but the other one came up but outward at a 90 degree angle, it looked like a turn signal. Finally, both stood up, and like I said they are big; I've never cut the hair off them cause hers is thin, so we are going for big beautiful "angel wing" ears now, ha ha. Mind you, this all happened over many months, and she is now only 8 months old. I think it stabilized around 6-7 months when she finished teething.

As far as taping, I never did, but there was a thread here about using Dr. Scholls moleskin tape, I'll try to post the link here:

Aww, that is exactly how Ralphie's ears were when we 1st brought him home. He had one up and one down. My bf loved it and was soo sad when he finally put the other ear up. One day I looked at him and that ear was just standing up perfect. I guess he just woke up and decided it was time to be a big boy :p:p I am sure that your babies ear will go up, it didn't take Ralphie very long.

The 1st 2 pics are when we 1st held him and his little ear was still down. The last one was only a few weeks later and both ears were straight up...

I have a german shepherd that has one floppy ear, but, that makes her unique;) I just bought a biewer, her ears are tiny, and they were going up and down, she's almost 6 mos. I've seen hers up very erect, but, between teething and just coming here 1 1/2 weeks ago, they have been going up and down, so I have them taped, but, she would cry when I would take the tape off. So, did it differently this time, I will leave it on for 4 days, then take it off, it it droops again then retape for 24 hours, and keep doing that until it's up..

Jewels had one ear up and one down. I didnt tape and it ended up going up on its own

I had my 14 wk at the vet today for shots. I asked if it was normal for one of her ears to be up and one down and if they thought it would come up....they said the exact same thing you said...could go up and down while teething...lol.. still I wondered..now i feel better..We shall wait for the other to stand:thumbup:

Our girl Kandi has one ear that goes up and down for no discernable reason. Sometimes I think it's her mood and sometimes I think she has no conscious control of it. She's also teething, so who knows?

Personally, since she's our loving pet and not a show dog, I'm fine with it. I think she's beautiful no matter what! :) It's cute! ;)

Mine is 7 months old. Her ears stood up by 4 months with me doing nothing except keeping the hair trimmed. Then she started teething and one ear went down. Its still down now after 2 months. Im guessing its going to stay that way. Its cute though.

Thank you. :) She's 19 weeks old and I see her ear up at least once a day and then it's down again later on. :p

Gizmo is a year and a half old.
