Decent price for Yorkies I'm wondering what is a decent price for a Yorkie is. I've seen anywhere from 500 to 3,000. I know you get what you pay for, but there is a point where the price is just way too high. |
IMO, anything over $1500, is way to high!!:) |
I paid 600 for my Yorkie, I also think anything over 1500 is too high! |
It depends and varies depending on the breeder. In most cases, the breeder has expenses and costs in their program that they try to cover if they can. I guess determining if the price is appropriate would best be judged by taking into consideration what costs each particular breeder is trying to cover. Do they have a female who had to have an emergency c-section landing them with high vet bills? Do they have show costs to cover? etc etc. |
I paid $2,600.00 plus expenses.I will check this site if we buy another (dh swears there will be no more ....but Chloe' is slowly changing his mind. ) I didn't really know anything about pricing before I bought Chloe' , I just figured that's what you had to pay for a good breeder. |
I think over 1,500$ is too high, for me at least. But I would probably not spend more then 1,000. Theres some breeders in my area though that sell them for 600-1000$. I will probably look at them and do some research when the time comes for another! |
I paid $900 for mine, she had some boys starting at $500 and some really pretty ones for $1200, we are in Oklahoma. |
Some puppy mills also charge an arm and a leg for their 'rare' Yorkies. They use gimmicks like 'rare,' 'chocolate,' 'teacup,' and other phrases which are not used by professionals who breed for the standard and health of pups. IMO, the price is not always an indicator of quality. That said, a breeder may charge $1,500 for an amazing puppy not just to recoup expenses or make profit, but because they want serious buyers who are willing to undertake the care and responsibility these lil ones require. So - the MOST important thing is not price - it is the breeder and their care and consideration while breeding and caring for your puppy. I would rather save up for a year to get a pup from a breeder I trust then take whats available sooner or save some cash. I know that money is tight for everyone right now, but taking on the responsibility of a pet is a major thing. Shelters are filling up because people cannot afford to care for their pets... A reasonable and reputable breeder will usually charge a reasonable and fair price, based on their expenses, the puppy's desired purpose (show, stud, breeding, ect.) and other factors like location...Do your research! |
I paid $950 Canadian, but when I was looking around I saw Yorkies listed for anywhere up to $4000! |
I imagine price varies depending on where you live also. Mine were $600 and $1200 but werent from the best breeder either |
I was just looking around the net at Yorkie pups , just to see whats out there and I just saw a yorkie advertised as a "pocket teacup" going for $6,500.00 ! Lordy  Wow , the prices really can get up there ! I know next time I will come here first. |
My daughter paid 1700 for Manolo 3 years ago this month. Here is her breeder. I think he sells them for 1200. He flys with the pup anywhere since he works for american airline. I see he has more pups. Very clean and they all stay in the house. I give them a 10 star. Honestly, you can get a good quality yorkie for under 1500, IMO, from a reputable breeder. CupofDog is absolutely correct, concentrate on finding a quality breeder first. |

For some peoples , even a free puppy is too high to pay . Most peoples paying lower prices for a pup will breed them and ask higher prices for them . |
very interesting! actually i think this is such an interesting topic. people often argue over what they think the right/reasonable price is for a yorkie. i kind of thought about it, and this is what i came up with: a $3000-$5000 is an inexpensive yorkie if they are healthy and well behaved. a $300 yorkie is an expensive yorkie if they are unhealthy (vet bills, mommy and daddy's heart ache), and/or require you to replace your carpet/furniture which well exceeds $5000. but pretty much it's supply and demand. if there are more people wanting yorkies than there are yorkies available in your area. the price will go up. if there are lots of yorkies available and no one is looking to add a yorkie to their family, then the price will go down. |

Hmm...hopefully they'll be in the Citrus Bowl! :D It IS going to be on my birthday so I think it's fate. ;) They will definately have to fight FL every step of the way to get there. (If they lose, they'll be in the Sugar Bowl.) |

I've been looking for another puppy for a good 6 months and I think the average price for males is $800-1200 and for females $1000-1600 in my area. Depending on whether you want full registration or not... I think finding a healthy, happy puppy that you fall in love with and that will fit just right into your family is worth the extra $$$, but I think that the dogs listed $2,000 and up is just ridiculous especially with the economy. I don't think paying more will guarantee that the puppy will be any more extraordinary than the next. |
xxmxaxrxyxx.... I don't know who's site it was . But it was Puppiesforsalebynet.com .I just came across it while looking for Yorkie stuff on the net. I couldn't believe the price ! It looked like a breeder website that alot of different people must be a part of because there were tons of puppies ,and all different breeds. Even a "teacup" French Bulldog. I don't know how in the hell they could have come up with that !!!!!! I know more now than I did when I bought our first Yorkie about 4 mo. ago , so even though I got lucky and did find a good breeder, I will know for next time that just because a puppy cost more doesn't mean it will be a good puppy. I do think alot of first time dog buyers like us fall into that "line" given to them by ,after they fall in love with the puppy. |
Mine came from All-Star Yorkies - AKC Registered Yorkshire Terriers-Parti Yorkies - Show Quality, Pedigreed, Companion Pets She was very helpful and very nice. She still tries to answer all of my questions I have. Her puppies range from $500(males)-$1200 I think is the most expensive ones. She is in Oklahoma but ships them out if needed. Mine came chipped and with shots, a week after I got her I took her to the vet and she had the start to an ear infection, which I think was my fault because I didnt realize they had no under coat and needed to be more taken care of then my big dog, I know better now! She had 30-ish dogs and they were all inside her home and it didn't smell bad! I think they have to be 9 weeks before she will let them go, not sure. But my little angel is 3 months and 2.75 lbs and healthy as can be! She has some smaller ones too, I purposely picked the "fat one":aimeeyork |

I also saw some 'teacup' Cavalier King Charles Spaniels for sale online recently. This is getting absolutely insane...I cannot imagine the kind of health issues those poor babies have.:sickie: As to the quote above where there are dogs for $6,500 - $10K?? WHOA. I mean - are they parented by Westminster and Crufts winners? I mean, come on!! That is out of control. This whole business is out of control. |
I would pay what I could afford. :) But, I don't think it is out of control if a breeder wants to charge $2000-$3000 for a Yorkie because they are living things...companions. People don't want to pay these prices but buying computers and TVs for $1000-$2000 is okay? |

My Yorkie mix ended up costing about $3,000 even though she was a rescue, by the time I finished with the vet to get her healthy...Worth every penny I spent on each of them! |

Juicy was $1200 and let me tell you it was the best spent $1200 Ive ever spent!!! (Well my bf actually spent lol) But because of this site I have came to the conclusion that even people who spend thousands can still end up with a sick puppy from a puppymill. Its all about getting research on the breeder. |
