It takes me forever to name a puppy- I had an easier time with my own kids how about Logan and congratulations on your new puppy- but if you are like the rest of us - one may not be enough |
thanks, i like logan, thats cute . i will think about it. i didnt realize it would be so hard to come up with a name. the woman we are getting him from said if we came up with a name before we got him, they would start calling him that, so he would be some what used to it when we got him. i have wanted a yorkie all my life and my husband is getting me one for christmas i went and picked him out last week, do you have any advice on caring for them. |
What's his personality like? Do you have any favorite movies or books that you can name him after? |
Our boys are...Harley, Max and Levi. But I also like...Chase and Chance. Good Luck with you new little baby. |
i have only got to spend a couple hours with him so far, when i went to pick him out , it took me over 2 hours to decide which one i wanted. but from what i know so far, he is a very laid back & affectionate dog, he crawled right up in my husbands lap and fell asleep. all the others were bouncing off the wall & running around, he just kindof picked us , he came right up to us and never left us the whole time, thats how i knew he was the one. |
So maybe try and pick a name that describes him... something maybe calm and/or serene. Sometimes when picking names I'll go to one of those baby naming sites and type in a keyword and see what names it comes up with. Maybe wait until he comes home and spend some time with him... you never know, he may name himself!! |

my first advice is stay low to the ground when holding him, I learned that the hard way and learn to do the Yorkie shuffle when walking. and after raising and training 4 yorkies- don't get discouraged when potty training- they will get the hang of it. Good luck and that is a very special Christmas gift. |
THANKS, yeah that is the main thing i am worried about , the potty training, is it best do do crate training with them? |

well I did crate training but I only work part time so mine are never alone for long - if you have to work I would suggest an area blocked off with pee pads at first then when the pup is older switch to crate training. I am a big believer in crate training and all of my pups love their bed. |
I've used the crate training for all my yorkies, seems too work pretty well. And take them outside every 2 hours, once in a while they'll have an accident in the house, but a dog normally doens't pee or poo-poo where they sleep. Get yourself a book on puppy training...good luck!!:) |
i will be at work 4 days a week for 8 hours. i wil probally keep him confined to the bathroom while i am gone |
Here's my advice. Keep him confined in the bathroom while you are at work, but have a crate that he sleeps in at night or when you can't watch him 100%. That way, as soon as you take him out of the crate, you either take him outside or on the pee pad and he learns that wherever you take him is the place to potty. Also too, getting him used to a crate will be good too that way if you ever do need to board him, put him on a plane, or take him somewhere in a crate, he won't freak out and a crate also gives them an area to call their own and retreat to if they wish. |
ok thanks so much, i will try that. we can not wait to get him!!! :O) |

What about a christmas-y name since your hubby is getting him for you for christmas? Maybe Ruddy (short for Rudolph)? |
