Help - Crazy Yorkie! A friend of mine takes his Yorkie to the park daily for a walk and then visits with his friends for a couple of hours at the park. His Yorkie is obsessed with the metal frame of the picnic table and constantly barks at it and when he can get to it he constantly licks it. I am trying to get any info I can for him on what he can do about the problem. Thanks for any help. |
I'm probably not so much help, but sometimes random things set dogs off. Walker HATES popcorn... i tried to give him a piece as a snack and he went crazy. Barking growling attacking. IMO its just a thing. Maybe others would have an actual reason for it? :) |

I'm sorry, I can't be much help either...but it is comical, the things that can set a dog off for no reason. Seems like everyday, Bailey is finding something new to growl and bark at....and usually it is the objects that cannot move that peaks her interest the most. |
thats funny! My dog freaks out at my husbands tape measure. And we don't know why! |

Any opportunity to increase his hunting skills i guess:) |
HAHA I thought Chino was the only nutty buddy.........he barks at weird stuff also....use to be the fireplace, now he barks until we put a pillow down by it for him to lay on....he goes crazy about the outside lights for Christmas, the deer mainly, but he doesn't lick it,:D........now that is funny. Velcrow...screech .. |
Haha - Missy barks and growls at her own reflection in the sliding glass door. She must think it's another dog LOL! |
Bubba barks at plastic trash bags. When my husband goes to put the trash bag in the trash can, he kind of waves it so some air gets into it-ithe sound drives Bubba nuts. |
This thread is too funny. My Mahina will bark at this abalone shell we have. She attacks it, growls at it, barks at it. She'll even try to eat it. I guess it's just one of those things... maybe it's the smell of the shell. Yorkies are so funny, gotta love em. |
Chip does this with almost any metal object... they make him angry for some reason. Chip won't lick the metal, but he'll nudge it with his nose... he's even been known to nudge and growl at mine and my husbands wedding rings while they are on our fingers. |
We put those fake headstones in the front yard as a Halloween decoration. Cocoa went crazy. She kept barking and backing away. She was afraid of them. Like where did these strange things come from and why are they in my yard? It was so hilarious to watch that we did not want to take them down. Bonnie , mom to Cocoa |
How funny. Allie attacks the vacuum cleaner. I saw that same thing on the Dog Whisperer but it was before Allie, and at 4lbs, I'm not concerned. I actually think it is hilarious. My two other dogs run away from it at top speed, but not Allie Bear. She attacks full throttle. I think it's really funny to see what sets these little guys off. I love the tape measures. |
Im glad to see im not alone Brooklyn doesnt like any furniture that moves. the first time I saw it was when I was resting my feet on my Ab-Lounge and I was rocking it. He started freaking out. It was so hilarious. I know it may sound cruel but sometimes I rock the Ab-Lounge just to see him go off. Its the only time I get to hear him bark and he sounds so cute |

Thanks for your responses. I have an idea now that it might be that it is shiny and he sees his reflection like TatumsMom suggested. The tape measure and wedding rings are probably shiny too. hmmmm... I noticed that my pups barked and barked when the neighbors put up a scarecrow in their yard at Halloween. They also barked like crazy last Christmas when another neighbor put some reindeer with lights on their lawn. After they were taken down my pups settled down. This summer the neighbor 2 doors down put 2 huge fake birds on their lawn and that also upset the pups. Thankfully they are used to the birds now and no longer bark at them. Now I am thinking they do not like for anything to change from what they are used to. Maybe that is why some pups don't like the vacuum cleaner or the trash bags. Maybe they just aren't used to seeing them there all the time and it is upsetting to them when their environment changes. That's a thought.... |

I know why my Chip goes crazy over the vaccuum... Mommy did a bad thing when he was a puppy. I was trying NOT to scare him with it, so I put him in his crate thinking he'd feel safe in there... instead it scared the bejesus out of him and he peed himself. After that he incident, he started barking and attacking the vaccuum any chance he got. I think I'm going to come up with a list of things Chip gets angry over... it's going to be long. lol |
