Sewing dresses is fairly easy. Hoodies might take some practice, but If you have any background in 'making things' it will go much easier, but anyone can learn. Its not that hard! I sometimes buy doll clothes at the craft store or sale stuff at Build A Bear and just adjust the stuff to fit my dogs, which may also be a good way to start and get a feel for how things are made. Also, take a look at the pieces you already own to get an idea for the shapes. Look at the different pieces of fabric and how they join together...You can always PM me too with any questions!

Thanks... I need to learn how to read a pattern. Any advice? Like what exactly do you do?
And my pups have different body shapes...so what will work for one, won't for the other---any tips on conquering this problem?

thank you...and I may take you up on that! I asked my mom for a sewing machine for Christmas...she said maybe...she said how about a piano instead? so I think that I'm getting a piano...but I'll buy a sewing machine if she doesn't get me one!

I reccomend the book Sewing for Dummies. It will help you learn to read patterns.

The best way to deal with the body shape issue is to make the clothes a little big and fit them after.

You may want to start with sewing by hand before getting a machine. Machines can be difficult to use and since dog clothes are so tiny, hand sewing wont take too long. Also, this way you can see if you even enjoy it! Big fabric stores like Jo Anns or G Street Fabrics often have classes that you can take to learn sewing and pattern basics, too!

Thanks I'll order the book. And I may try to hand sew...but I used to love my sewing machine until my mom sold it when we moved (without my permission)... so I do know that I'll like it.
I am going to be taking classes...but I don't want to spend too much money on them...I want to figure out what i can before I begin them. I will get that book though! Thanks

I do knit, but haven't yet for my furballs. I may give it a try though! Do you??

Since you already know how to use a sewing machine, you will do great! You can look up classes that may be less $$ at a community center or something, just look around on the internet!

Not very well---I can make blankets... I don't have patience... I used to be very good with the machine---but have always "given up" on knitting because it takes so much time.
My mom knits very well and she is showing me how to knit puppy sweaters. You should try to do that. You could earn some $$ if you could.

Have you heard of the ultimate sweater machine? If it really works, I'm tempted to get it---if I felt like spending that kind of money! If it works--then it would be worth it...

No, just one that sews! Haha :p

I'd read reviews and stuff first. Singer used to be a really good brand and now all you read are bad things on them. When I bought my new one, I bought a Brother & got it from Overstock.com. I love it & it came in a day with standard shipping!
