Ok for the answer on the newspaper breeder thing, look at the post above about my experience with "newspaper breeders". Also another preciptating factor is that I had started my search, and had asked extensively on here for help, but there was none to be found. I had gone to the AKC site and gotten the names of the like one or two in this area. and they either did not return my call or didn't have litters etc. Then there was one, right near me as a matter of fact, and she kept coming up with every excuse under to sun not to let me near her house or to even bring the puppies to me. It was almost like I couldn;t find one in Memphis, except to turn to the store thing, I was very frustrated. Ok and to answer the health problem questions. They had me take her to the vet within 72 hours (of course you know THEIR vet is in THEIR pocket). He just brushed thses issues off as minor, said "most puppies had these problems", gave me the medicine and exam free and sent me packing with instructions as to what to do. I still did not have a good feeling, so I called my puppy counselor (code name for sales person at puppy corral), and she also said it was nothing to worry about, par for the course, not ususual, yada yada. By this time I was already liking her, and she was so very very adorable (then), that this was the one I wanted Rachel to have. As for why I decided she was for Rachel, and not me, I can't explain it, but I have an intuition that guides me to do almost everything, and I try to listen. I felt that is was meant for me to get Kaya, but not for myself. I had a feeling that there was another little girl out there for me ( at this point, Maya would not even have been conceived), or the time just wasn't right for me or something. Once again, I did come onto yorkie talk at this point in time to discuss it, and everyone just could not believe I could give up a puppy so precious, but some congratulated me for doing what I felt was right and making someone else happy. I posted many pictures of Kaya and her development during this time. |

I've got a plan....The haircut she had didn't help any. Lord I wonder who in Chicago did that???? But anyway, I'm going to talk to her at dinner tomorrow about that. |

I'll take pictures tomorrow at dinner. |

This going on throughout Thanksgiving dinner would not be cute. |

Impulse buying Impulse buying often leads to remorse. We see it, we want it, gotta have it..... then it's not right. It's hard to stop and think, and research, especially when we see an adorable puppy face, and we feel we've gotta jump on it cause they are so hard to come by. Many of us can say "if I knew better I would do better". So you've learned a few things. Be thankful that the puppy is healthy. That is more important than looks. And I agree, with better grooming and accessories, any dog can become a princess! Buy her some special things and you'll all feel better. |
Oh, and one more thing: Accentuate the positive traits and compliment that. Luckily her family loves her, and therefore overlook any flaws. My Yorkie might not fare so well in a Yorkie beauty contest, but I wouldn't trade her for a million dollars! |
Wow, down here, you could have bough 2-4 yorkies(beautiful ones) for that kind of money...That's why everyone on here tries to help people out by explaining puppy mills/ petstores..If you have a good breeder, then, they would never have a reason to have to sell to a petstore.. |
i wouldn't beat yourself up over it! ;) you didn't know any better when you bought her.. :) and i'm sure it would be a difficult thing to discuss with your cousin (some people will always take things the wrong way! hard to bring up, how to say it.. etc.) but i think ultimately, you should tell her the reasons(not to buy from pet stores, etc.) & that you were aware of those reasons AFTER you had already bought their baby! ;) she should realize that you did it with good intentions! ;) also, this way she will now know the truth, and pass along info./educate others, if it comes up! ;) it's not like you are lying to her..if she looks it up online.. she will find a TON of info(that backs you up!!) :) don't worry about it, girl.. they love their baby and that's all that matters! (she is a good fit for them, and you found ur Maya, who is a perfect fit, for you! :)) you live, you learn! ;) happy thanksgiving! :) |

Wow thanks Avery....and again I want to thank Dina Nicole who was so patient with me through the looking/buying process of Maya. She was the one who led me to my breeder and I just had to suck up that 12 hour drive to get her. SO much for finding a breeder in my area. However, one has contacted me through this board ONCE all of my puppy shopping for myself and others was done OF COURSE.... after months and months of my asking/begging on here. |

Okay so you answered everyones questions and you need to tell yourself it is okay.. and it should be. If your cousin didn't want her dog she would have told you. Stop beating yourself up. It WILL be okay..;) |
Ok and thank you YT family |
1 Attachment(s) So you asked to see her, and this is Kaya now. |
She looks like a Yorkie to me...maybe a Silky... but then again maybe I don't know anything because...I think she's cute. |
She is very cute!!! You can do a lot just by taking care of her... |
aww! what!? I think she's freaking adorable. :p Her haircut doesn't do her much justice, but I see a very cute yorkie under there! :) Don't beat yourself up. You didn't intentionally do it. and as long as they love her, that's what counts! :) |

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be mean. Honest....but.... First of all, why does it bother you.....they obviously love the dog, they still have her. Your cousin never complained or said anything until she brought the dog back for a visit. Maybe she only said something because of your reaction when you saw her. Or, maybe she thinks yours is cuter, but who cares? You know the mistake you made in buying from a pet store, but you know better now. You didn't realize at the time, so I don't understand what the problem is. I'm not sure if you paid for her or of your cousin did....I was a little confused. That IS alot to pay, but that's how the prices run in those places. She paid for her and accepted her, right? So, why complain now? Another thing I don't understand is what's the big deal? It's been a YEAR. There's not even anything you can do about it now. What kind of food does she eat, does she get any supplements, what kind of shampoos and conditioners are used, does she maybe have allergies, what kind of treats does she get? All these things can affect yorkies' coats. Why aren't you taking Maya to dinner now? Because of Kaya? I'm just curious. What was it that made you realize she wasn't the dog for you? |
I think she's cute ! She looks like a loving happy puppy. |
I agree, that dog is very cute. It just needs a good trim, assuming you want a puppy cut. Reading your first post, I thought it was going to look like ET. She does seem to have a long snout for a classic yorkie... maybe the store gave you a mixed breed. Nevertheless, she is still a looker! |
She looks like a yorkie to me. I think shes really cute. |

I answered all of these questions earlier, your post is almost identical to another member's post. |
Ok so I will sum up the dinner for you. I looked around on the Internet, and by accident on a site where a lady sells doggie panties, I ran up on two yorkies that looked a lot like Kaya and had her same coat. They had pretty nice cuts that went with their type, so I blew them up and took them to cousin. She told me she had only had Kaya professionally groomed one time (in a year???), so that is part of the problem. She blames to crazy cut on the groomer, but I suspect she has taken scissors and was trying to do it herself. I told her to use these pictures with her groomer to come up with a better plan for Kaya. She was very excited and put the pictures straight way in her purse so she wouldn't loose them. Now being around Kaya without Maya I got to see her real personality, (remember I told you she retreated to her carrier with Maya around, she didn't much like Maya). She likes attention, and is VERY active, real yorkie personality that needs rearing in some, so that was a good thing. She LOVES her grandaddy, and seemed to remember me, (I call myself first mommy). The whole matter was never mentioned as an issue, and family dinner went off without a hitch. Now back to the original reason I posted this other than my personal misgivings. Having bought some yorkies from pet stores with out it being a disaster, I still wanted to put it out there one more time DON'T PATRONIZE THEM, AND DISCOURAGE ALL YOU KNOW WHO ARE CONSIDERING BUYING PUPPIES FROM DOING SO. It's nothing that most YT members don't already know anyway...but people learn these things mostly when they come here. Yes, Kaya will be just fine in the end, yes, they love her, and this story has a semi-happy ending.....BUT I STILL SAY....that for that amount of money....Puppy Corral, and Arky Barky and other pet stores are places to avoid if you are after a quality pet. Thank you for the encouraging words to me personally, and let's continue to give those places what they deserve. |
Side note....another thing that brought these issues to the fore front for me was that a member here recently actually did contact me about Arky Barky...she had a serious issue with them too (side side note...the elderly parents of the son who owns Puppy Corral owned Arky Barky when I bought Mika, I got a chance to meet them personally, then they sold that business to the son as well, whom I consider more cut throat business). So anyway, this member was trying to get the name of the owner of Arky Barky to take some action and was getting nowhere. I went into my FBI mode, and by searching through the BBB records here in Memphis for the Puppy Corral, I was able to find out who he was. I hope she nails his behind for whatever it was (she didn't go into details). |
I think she looks all yorkie & she is adorable & her haircut looks fine to me. I think people need to get over Looks & size & be happy they got a healthy happy puppy! |
