I think there is a person you can hire to check your house safety for fires, but if you don't crate him you can get a doggy door so he can get outside. When I was younger I used to be terrified of fires, earthquakes, and lava coming into our house. There won't ever be lava.. but I was so scared of fires I made my dad get me a fire escape ladder. Hmmm, they should invent a door that unlocks when it senses smoke, so the pets can escape into the backyard or something! |

When I was 14, we had a house fire that was caused by spontaneous combustion. My dad was in the army and we had just moved back home again. Some boxes were stacked in the basement and that's where the fire started. To this day, I'm afraid of anything with a flame. |
i wish they did make a doggy door that detects smoke. but i cant just put one in because i dont want them to go outside when we arent home. thats when i worry. |
The fire department can probably give you some tips. During the Holiday season make sure not to leave christmas lights and things on, we turn ours off when we go to bed. Keep your yard up so that there aren't dry weeds and stuff that can catch fire from ciggarettes and stuff. And for the electrical wires in your home, if you own your home you can have someone come out and make sure they are still in good condition. If it's a rental it is the owners responsibility to make sure everything is up to code to prevent a fire. At least thats how it is here... |
I used to live in fear that our house would burn down. It would actually keep me from my sleep. Eventually, I just moved past it and said to myself "If it's going to happen, it's going to happen, and there's nothing i can do except make sure this place is as safe as we can make it." When my dad was a kid, they had a really bad house fire and they lost everything. He is very cautious now and is like uber-safe about fire safety. Sending you hugs. And prayers for the kid who's house burned down. That must be the most awful feeling. |
