Shelterman/Shelderman Terrier When I was walking Bennett a lady stopped me and asked if Bennett was a "Shelterman/Shelderman Terrier" because her mother had one and Bennett looked just like him! I explained Bennett was a Yorkie with floppy ears and she looked like I was nuts! I told her I didn't know what a Shelterman/Shelderman Terrier was - and she told me it was a breed recognized by the AKC! I don't know all my breeds - but I sure don't know an AKC Shelter(d)man. Anyone out there know what she's talking about??

I've never heard of one of those. You caught my curiosity so I looked in my dog breed encyclopedia and can't find it in there either. A Sealyham Terrier looks nothing at all like a yorkie. I have no idea what that lady was talking about.

Sealyham Terrier? I don't think Bennett would be mistaken for a Sealyham - but at first I thought that might be what she was saying. But the "man" at the end of the Shelter or Shelder was very vivid! I'm just wondering what her mother bought that someone convinced her was an AKC breed! At least she thought Bennett was "just precious"! I know I'm from Texas - and she had an accent that wasn't Texas at all - so maybe that was some of the confusion!!

No Longer a Member | yes, a sealyham can be mistaken. Especially if someone knows nothing about dogs. Heres a pic of a sealyham that I could see someone that knows nothing about dogs could mistake it. Not all Sealys are white |

Got It! I grew up with a Sealyham (my uncle had a Sealyham named Ragmop!) - so I know what they look like! We've gone from Shelt(d)erman to Sealyham pretty quickly. I'm just going to wait until I see this lady again - and ask her what in the heck she said! I appreciate everyone's help!!
