You may want to READ IT AGAIN..... We welcome you to our Yorkshire Terrier community! Please feel free to browse around and read our message board! We welcome all Yorkshire Terrier and dog lovers! Please register so you can post on our forums, view pictures, and search our site. You can also share pictures of your Yorkie after you register! We are a friendly bunch and we'd love to have you as a member! We also have a text-friendly archive you can browse Sorry some of you feel the way you do about our so called Designer dogs or MUTTS Hope you don't look at people in the same manner! |
Im kinda new here myself but as far as i understand, everyone is welcome here. I love all animals, no matter what breed they are, whether they are purebred or mixed. I love all people too!:welcome4: |
I have felt that way on occasion here which is why I mostly read but rarely post. As I have learned there will always be people that consider anything less then a purebred a mutt and that's fine. I love my Buster and the way I look at it is anyone who wouldn't love him just because he is a mix is missing out on one hell of a great dog! Their loss. Whatever you do though don't let it stop you from reading here, it's silly and it just lets their "we better then you" attitude win. Most people here are welcoming, because any way you package it my Buster is still part Yorkie and no one can take that away from him. |
I'm fairly new here myself. I think out of the thousands of people that read and post here, you are always going to confront those that for one reason or another are just abrasive and judgmental. BUT for every one like that, there are 10 more that are just helpful and caring and welcoming. Most everyone that I've seen post or reply to my posts have just been genuine caring people. I need that support at times and I'm sure you do too. Your 'mutt' as you put it, is just as important to you as anyone's 'purebred'. The breed is not important, but the love that they show. Please people, it is SO easy to come off wrong or judgmental when typing to people whom you can't see the whites of their eyes. This forum is a WEALTH of information, filled with caring people who LOVE their babies, even if they have TWO heads and their tails are in a corkscrew. This forum if FULL of caring people and those who wish to share their heart as well as their love of the yorkshire... full or not. In the world outside this forum and here.... there will always be those people who are negative and hurtful. Ignore them. They will go away. |

One of my favorite dogs here is a mutt--- Ella Bean.... I wish we could have her lol. I see nothing wrong with mixed breed dogs being here. I have no problem with them, I just have a concern for those who breed them as they often don't genetically test or breed to improve the 'breed' as there is no 'breed'. But the dogs themselves are fantastic! I want a morkie lol I am a mutt myself :) i love the word---mutt! :yelrotflm |
"Mutt" is just a word, and by definition any non-purebred dog is a 'mutt.' So it's an accurate phrase. Not everyone who uses the term is doing so to be condescending or implying that any one dog is lesser than the next and not everyone who reads it takes offense to the term. I honestly will never understand the oversensitivity some people have to the word. Heck, I affectionately call my dogs "mutt" all the time. I have NEVER seen a case here where any one dog was viewed as "lesser" becuase it was not a purebred. I have seen many instances where people express their disapproval of purposely mixing the breeds though...something completely different. I think that sometimes people go on the defensive and confuse the two though. |

That may be why some are sensitive. |

I guess I've been insulted many times. *shrugs* I think that the term mutt is not bad--- especially compared to mongrel. |

To the OP...you may run into the judgemental occasionally on this site. Please pay no attention to them. Most of the people here are very helpful and friendly. I've had purebred and mixed breed dogs; both kinds have been the light of my life for many years. I love purebreds, crossbreeds, and Heinz 57 Variety dogs. No "mutt" is better than the other. All dogs rock the casbah. :animal-pa (Yay, 100th post!) |
I love reading about yorkies, yorkie mixes and even dogs that dont have any yorkie in them. |

There will always be endless debates about breeding for "designer dogs" and those threads may get heated but mixed Yorkies are welcome on YT just as purebred Yorkies are.:) In fact, there are even YT members who don't have Yorkies at all. :) |

Im not opposed to using the word mutt, however there are a few people on here who like to use is to be offensive. Ive seen it many times in the few months Ive been here. :( I dont consider my newest pup, a yorkipoo...a mutt or a desinger breed. He is MY pet, MY baby and Im extremely happy that he is part of MY family. |
I have 2 pure bred dogs and 1 mix [ 3/4 yorkie 1/4 poodle] I appreciate the time and effort people who show and breed dogs put in, but I don't think the world would be a better place if all you had to choose from were pure bred show dogs. Just ignore any one who sounds condescending and you can get alot of good advice here! I have!! |
I don't consider mutt offensive either but I have seen it used here in a way that can make it seem that way. In fact most people I know find "mutts" to be the best dogs. I guess what I am trying to say is this is a site that is supposed to be user friendly to everyone, why keep using a term that you know may hurt someone else's feelings or make them not want to come here. Is it really that much to ask, because I don't understand why people keep pushing this button for some. |

And for the record, the best dog I have EVER owned was a mutt named Rocky Noodle and I can't even begin to make an educated guess as to what he actually was...other than small, black and furry. |

Hee hee! I am Ella Bean's mom! :p I totally agree! I know my girl is a mutt, but she is darling and IS half Yorkie. Now, because of the circumstances under which I got her, (she is a rescue from a Puppy Mill raid and was EXTREMELY sick) I have really strong anti-mill and anti-backyard breeding feelings. I worry about people who seek out mixes because breeders who do this are often in it for profit and not concerned with the health of their puppies, which should be the most important concern for a breeder. I worry that their new mix pup won't be as healthy as it could. That said, this is a generalization and I am sure their are people who responsibly and lovingly breed mixes. The number 1 concern I have is a dog's health and that all dogs deserve a loving home. The concern is that the desire for 'designer' mixes creates a demand for unethical breeders to generate pups for profit and literally, farm their dogs and that by seeking out a mix, it promotes this kind of breeding. I think this is where the hostility comes out from YT people who are negative towards our lovely mixes. I would like to think it comes from a place of concern for the health and well being of dogs...but it often doesn't come out that way. I also noticed that there are those who are adamant about posting that 'Morkies' and other mixes aren't breeds. Well, they aren't AKC recognized, for sure, but I see nothing wrong with giving a mix a nickname to identify him! Its like how the tabloids call Brad Pitt and Angelina "Brangelina" - its just an identifying moniker and an attempt to be cute. It works! We mixed breed owners need not feel defensive. Purebred dog people take their breed very seriously - but us mix breed owners know we take our dogs just as seriously! It is my hope that responsible ethical breeders will come forward and offer these mixed breed pups, as there is a demand and by creating alternatives to the milled and farmed mixes, we can fight the people who treat dogs badly. I have met people on here who are negative about my having a mixed Yorkie, but I shrug it off. There are too many YT people who are super nice! |
I think an important thing to keep in mind is that almost all purebred dog breeds are the result of "designer" crossbreeds...who knows when the Morkie (or other equivalent crossbreed) will be bred into existence long enough to warrant a pedigree? Yorkshire Terrier = Welsh Terrier + Skye Terrier + Clydesdale Terrier + Paisley Terrier + Who knows what else Golden Retriever = Tweed Water Spaniel + Irish Setter + Wavy-Coated Retriever Miniature Schnauzer = Standard Schnauzer + Affenpinscher + Poodle You get the picture. So the moral of the story is: They're all "designer dogs"... :D |

I don't get this place at all sometimes and people wonder why so many don't post here. The fact that people just can respect others is such a joke..I don't even want to be bothered anymore. Is there a way to unjoin? If anyone know's how please PM me or if you are a mod just remove my membership. This is just ridiculous now. |

I joined YT so I could gain advice and share experiences with people who have a real passion for their dogs. I have a yorkie but I couldnt care less whether people have yorkies, yorki-poos, morkies or yorkie/hippo - I just want to look at cute pics of them all!!!:D xxx xxx |
Everyone needs to chill! This is a fun place to come, meet people and talk about our dogs. Avoid people who make you angry or upset you, just IGNORE it!!! OR - report them to a Moderator if its really bad. Don't let the few bad seeds ruin the whole experience. There are too many wonderful people on here. |
