Im not opposed to using the word mutt, however there are a few people on here who like to use is to be offensive. Ive seen it many times in the few months Ive been here. :( I dont consider my newest pup, a yorkipoo...a mutt or a desinger breed. He is MY pet, MY baby and Im extremely happy that he is part of MY family. |
I have 2 pure bred dogs and 1 mix [ 3/4 yorkie 1/4 poodle] I appreciate the time and effort people who show and breed dogs put in, but I don't think the world would be a better place if all you had to choose from were pure bred show dogs. Just ignore any one who sounds condescending and you can get alot of good advice here! I have!! |
I don't consider mutt offensive either but I have seen it used here in a way that can make it seem that way. In fact most people I know find "mutts" to be the best dogs. I guess what I am trying to say is this is a site that is supposed to be user friendly to everyone, why keep using a term that you know may hurt someone else's feelings or make them not want to come here. Is it really that much to ask, because I don't understand why people keep pushing this button for some. |

And for the record, the best dog I have EVER owned was a mutt named Rocky Noodle and I can't even begin to make an educated guess as to what he actually was...other than small, black and furry. |

Hee hee! I am Ella Bean's mom! :p I totally agree! I know my girl is a mutt, but she is darling and IS half Yorkie. Now, because of the circumstances under which I got her, (she is a rescue from a Puppy Mill raid and was EXTREMELY sick) I have really strong anti-mill and anti-backyard breeding feelings. I worry about people who seek out mixes because breeders who do this are often in it for profit and not concerned with the health of their puppies, which should be the most important concern for a breeder. I worry that their new mix pup won't be as healthy as it could. That said, this is a generalization and I am sure their are people who responsibly and lovingly breed mixes. The number 1 concern I have is a dog's health and that all dogs deserve a loving home. The concern is that the desire for 'designer' mixes creates a demand for unethical breeders to generate pups for profit and literally, farm their dogs and that by seeking out a mix, it promotes this kind of breeding. I think this is where the hostility comes out from YT people who are negative towards our lovely mixes. I would like to think it comes from a place of concern for the health and well being of dogs...but it often doesn't come out that way. I also noticed that there are those who are adamant about posting that 'Morkies' and other mixes aren't breeds. Well, they aren't AKC recognized, for sure, but I see nothing wrong with giving a mix a nickname to identify him! Its like how the tabloids call Brad Pitt and Angelina "Brangelina" - its just an identifying moniker and an attempt to be cute. It works! We mixed breed owners need not feel defensive. Purebred dog people take their breed very seriously - but us mix breed owners know we take our dogs just as seriously! It is my hope that responsible ethical breeders will come forward and offer these mixed breed pups, as there is a demand and by creating alternatives to the milled and farmed mixes, we can fight the people who treat dogs badly. I have met people on here who are negative about my having a mixed Yorkie, but I shrug it off. There are too many YT people who are super nice! |
I think an important thing to keep in mind is that almost all purebred dog breeds are the result of "designer" crossbreeds...who knows when the Morkie (or other equivalent crossbreed) will be bred into existence long enough to warrant a pedigree? Yorkshire Terrier = Welsh Terrier + Skye Terrier + Clydesdale Terrier + Paisley Terrier + Who knows what else Golden Retriever = Tweed Water Spaniel + Irish Setter + Wavy-Coated Retriever Miniature Schnauzer = Standard Schnauzer + Affenpinscher + Poodle You get the picture. So the moral of the story is: They're all "designer dogs"... :D |

I don't get this place at all sometimes and people wonder why so many don't post here. The fact that people just can respect others is such a joke..I don't even want to be bothered anymore. Is there a way to unjoin? If anyone know's how please PM me or if you are a mod just remove my membership. This is just ridiculous now. |

I joined YT so I could gain advice and share experiences with people who have a real passion for their dogs. I have a yorkie but I couldnt care less whether people have yorkies, yorki-poos, morkies or yorkie/hippo - I just want to look at cute pics of them all!!!:D xxx xxx |
Everyone needs to chill! This is a fun place to come, meet people and talk about our dogs. Avoid people who make you angry or upset you, just IGNORE it!!! OR - report them to a Moderator if its really bad. Don't let the few bad seeds ruin the whole experience. There are too many wonderful people on here. |
