Chewing is driving me nuts!!

Ok, so Teddy is now 5 months old and I know he's at the age where he is teething, but he is driving me nuts with it! He will chew on anything! He tears all the fuzzy stuff off tennis balls, really likes anything paper he can get a hold of and has even gotten the heels on my favorite pumps! He has lots of chew toys but they don't seem to hold the attraction for him that the "forbiddens" do. Anyway, I'm just venting and I know he will grow out of it but patience is NOT one of my strong suits! Lol!

been there you just gotta take everyhing off of his level that he isn't allowed to have. Or spray it with bitter apple. The poor guys is getting read to loose those OH so sharp baby teeth! Hang in there mom

Thanks, trying to have patience. Taking everything off his level is hard, he's a jumper and a BIG boy, about 10 lbs already lol!

we all understand what you're going through!! the only way to stop it is to make him older faster

just kidding.

make sure you leave plenty of chewy toys laying around. lots of members like the kongs, but we love Orka toys.

i've read clear deodorant also works well.

they do grow out of eating the carpet and licking the walls. but they don't grow out of eating leftover lunch plastic bags hidden deep within your kids backpacks, keeping the crayons together, or securing stacks of pokemon cards....

Mocha has chewed my earphones and laptop cords I was really angry because for months she has not even gone close to the cords, and now all of a sudden she's taking an interest of it

Trust me, I'm less patient than you but if I can hang on this long, you can too. Mocha is 8 months old, and as crazy as ever! I'm just glad I don't have to deal with pee anymore.

Toughen up and get used to it. Just kidding of course, but I realize it's a serious problem.

It may not end after teething. Gus is 13 months old, and I have to watch him continuously.

Bully Sticks may be worth a try. Seem to be a chew that keeps their interest. However, with Gus, the more he chews, the more he pees.

To be honest I have predicted this.. as far as I can see, Mocha doesn't have any baby teeth left and she's still chewing her toys with a vengeance. But there were still hopes that one day I can be completely sure from that point on, she won't chew anything she's not supposed to.

Now I know better. Goodbye hair.

Let me clarify what I wrote. Chewing the Bully Stick makes him very thirsty. He takes a break from chewing, and drinks a lot of water. Then he pees, and pees.

Conner was a chewer when he was a puppy. Whenever he was quiet, we knew he was chewing something. Eventually he got out of it, but not before we had to replace window sills (he would get on the back of the sofa and chew the sill), we had to sand legs on furniture and replace. My bar in the kitchen (the legs) need to be sanded and painted white. He also stole all the little plastic things on the doorstops. I also have to replace my bathroom hamper. Hang in there - it will get better.

I also used bully sticks and cow tails.

I don't mean to put ANYONE"s dogs down- some are chewers- but i've heard that destructive dogs are bored dogs. Maybe a good super long walk? If they are a tired dog they can't be a destructive dog But sometimes I think they do it almost instinctively. Sometimes Layla will take her Kong and just CHEW it like there is no tomorrow- almost as if she needs to just get it out of her system.

I know you wouldn't put anyones babies down. Teddy get lots of activity, he has a 45 lb. sister that plays with him continuously, and 2 skin sisters that give him love and attention, they take him away from me!! He gets long walks every day, the big dog needs them more than he does so he gets to go along! He's definetley not bored around here! But thanks for the advice!

You hit it on the head. Gus is a chewer, I know he's bored, and I can tell when he looks at me he's asking for something to do.

Problem is he doesn't want to go for walks, and he doesn't want to play fetch.

So, I have one last hope. I'm considering getting him a Yorkie for a playmate. It's got to be the solution. Of course, I could end up with another chewer. They do learn from each other, right?

Conner was never bored. He goes for 3 walks a day, plus we get down on the floor to play with him. It was a phase, and, luckily, it is over.
