So you just answered one of my questions, too... (I'm a bit slow witht the whole picture thing...)

I guess he's about at that age then. His hair doesn't mat and is easy to comb, but that could be just because there isn't much of it!!

They all have varied coats - I'm FAR from an expert but can say that what my girls were like as puppies - they pretty much stayed the same - Cheri is silky - Chanel is cottony - So while I do think at 4 months the hair is changing - once the adult coat is in I don't think it looks really that much different - Your little guy looks pretty silky to me -

With Cotton coats - they have the look of thick hair - Actually Chanel HAS alot of hair & it grows really fast ... but being cotton makes it look like more.

Thanks, Villette.

Not that it matters, I'm just curious. He's adored no matter what he looks like!! His hair is prettiest when he's asleep and I brush it. For the moment that he is still, it looks so shiny and soft. Once he moves it's in an uproar again. LOL Guess I better get used to it looking messy!!

He will probably be silky as adult . Peoples are very surprized when they come to look at my pups . They ask question like how come they are not little fluffy balls like the one of my neighbour ? You should see them when they come to show me the silky adult they have . A silky haired pup is just like the ugly duckling when a pup .

That is so true. Maddie wasn't a fluffy puppy and she has a silk coat to the ground. Rudy was a fluffy puppy and has a cotton coat that is beautiful but a pain to keep. When I went with a friend looking I couldn't resist Polly and she wasn't real fluffy, she is 6 months now and I think she is going to have a silk coat. The pic is of Polly at 6 months.

Polly is beautiful . She have a superb little head . She looks like Venus when she was a pup .

Kellie was a real ugly duckling when she was a pup , I was really doubting that she was a real Yorkie even if the pedigree was saying ch sire and dam but what a surprize to see her change . You can see her coat on # 2 .

People at the YTCA meeting said Coco has a silky coat. What do you guys think? This is a great thread, because I don't know the difference (well didn't)..hehe

She does have a gorgeous coat. Maddie my oldest has a coat like that, and she is so easy to take care of even with a full coat. Do you think Poll y is going to have one? I hope so she is a little toot and not a lady. She loves to be oustide rolling around in everything. I am a believer about the eye color to. Maddie has green eyes in pics and Rudy had Red eyes. Haven't got a pic were Polly's eyes show a color.

Coat??
 
I'm glad to see that there has been a discussion on the coat of yorkies. Since, I'm in the process of getting my yorkie I've heard so many different theories on their coats. I heard that if the coat is like cotton then it's not a "pure" yorkie and if the coat is silky it is. My question is this...when it's time to purchase my puppy which is better; a silky coat or cotton? I'm so confused, because I don't know which is best because I think they are all so adorable.

Greasy?
 
What is this greasy hair thing? The top of Susan's head looks greasy sometimes even right after a bath. I don't know what causes it. I think she has a cotton coat. It's really thick and feels fluffy and soft. It's growing much faster than her sister's. Actually right now (at a little over 4 months) Susan is prettier than Little Bit because Little Bit's hair is so thin and sparse. But I think Little Bit is going to have the silk coat. I don't really know. I don't have any experience; I'm just judging by what I read.

Vainchick, how old is Coco? She looks exactly like my mother's Little Bit! If Coco has a silky coat, them Little Bit probably does, too.

The theory of a cottony coated Yorkie is totally wrong . If that was right , let me tell you that there would be a lot of persons with " not pure Yorkies ". A true silky coated yorkie is the best of the best .

Coco is almost 7 months now. She's about 3 lbs.
