Where can I take Maija? So I have been wondering where are places I can take my little girl, besides Petsmart and Petco? I really want to take her everywhere with me, BUT I don't want to have to be turned aways because I have her, that could hurt her feelings. So where are some places you take your furbabies? |
Layla goes in Michaels with no problem and Home depot- She's been to a shoe store that was not in the mall. Anywhere that basically has no food should be fine. I've seen dogs in strollers in the mall when we are in Florida- so i guess they are allowed in some malls but there is a sign on our mall that says no dogs :( |
Good post!!! I think that's an excellent question. I've seen dogs beeing walked at a mall in Glendale (Glendale Galleria) so maybe malls do not have a no pet policy. But I'm just assuming so. Marcerella02- When Layla goes to Michaels or Home Depot, is she in a carrier or do you walk in with her in your arms or on a leash??? |
I will take Gracie with me anywhere that there isn't food being served/sold. It is the stores right to turn me away, and my decission if I want to come back and continue to shop there. A lot would depend on how I was asked to leave. Home Depot, Lowes, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Office Supply stores, retail stores not located inside a mall. However, I did read something recently about Saks allowing dogs in with their owners. G is very well behaved, kept in a purse in most stores, I am viligant about keeping an eye on her if she is down and I always have stuff with me to clean up if she should have an accident. |
For the most part... I think you can take your pup anywhere that does not stock or carry food items. That's considered a health risk, ya know. Also, I tend to carry Meka when Im in a store because its safer that way. And, some stores dont mind...however if they see a dog walking on a leash in a store... they get concerned about potty accidents & also if something happens to your pup in their store, they could be found liable (just like with humans)... But, Ive taken Meka to a mall, target, pet stores... you name it :) |
yeah the place I got asked out of served food, I should have known better. |
I took Baxter briefly inside at Walmart but went in through the Garden Ctr. and stayed in that area with him in my arms. |
I think they are pretty much allowed anywhere if there isn't food. I plan to take him to my mall one day, as I always see dogs when I go shopping. I brought him in a school supply store and they didn't mind. If you carry them it should be fine. Vanessa |
I personally feel uncomfortable taking my babies into "people stores". I have done it a time or two and even though no one said anything I was on edge and wasn't even able to really concentrate on my shopping. I prefer to take them only to places that are centered all around them so that my full attention can be paid instead of me shopping or whatever else I'm doing. I've heard many take their pets to home depot, but there's a sign at ours that says no pets, at the bottom of the door, so you may want to check. |
i have taken both my girls to MANY places.. as long as there is not food, it is usually ok! ;) i do carry my girls, when i am out, inside places.. just out of habit.. and it's easier, in my opinion! ;) but i have taken them LOTS of places!! :):) |
Well this weekend I tried it with Maija... we went into Gamestop and Blockbuster, shopping with DH of course. It went well. I should be getting a carrier soon and will try taking her other places just to get her out sometimes. Thanks for all the replies. |
There are a lot of stores here in AL that do not allow any animals except service dogs, so I think it's up to the discretion of individual stores... I am going to start looking around to see what kind of places I CAN take Ollie though, since I would like him with me as often as possible. |
The only time I've been turned away was in Super Target...only because there is a Taco Bell inside and it's a health hazard. The funny part about the incident was that the manager asked me if he was a seeing eye dog. Really? The dog peeking his head out of my purse? You've gotta be kidding me.... :) |
i took milu to the movie theater one time, and no one knew that she was there, but i was so nervous the whole time i couldnt enjoy the movie! ( i had to feed her treat after treat the whole time because i was afraid she would start crying...) and she almost went nuts when the guy sitting next to me started eating beef jerky. she kept trying to jump in his lap to share the beef jerky! |
I know Target and Hobby Lobby does not allow dogs because I know someone who was told to leave both places.:( |
If I plan to take EJ to people stores (not including pet oriented stores), I usually bring him in his carrier so it would be easier for me to shop and less obvious to people. I've taken him to Target, my local bank- which they let him run around the store hehe, Linen's and Things, and Michaels. These are usually short trips too. I just don't take him to stores that sell/serve food. |
I have taken mine to Home Depot and Lowes, we just put them in the cart and push them around. I have seen women with dogs at Hobby Lobby, too. When Baxter was a puppy I took him to my locally owned grocery store, to get some chicken baby food. He was wrapped in a receiving blanket, I had just gotten him that day....no one said a word....but it isn't a big chain. We have also taken them to this little poboy place we like, and we eat outside....they get a hamburger to share. I also take them to the greenhouse in the spring. The only place I have ever been asked to leave is a GAS STATION--go figure. It is the nastiest one in our town too, but it was close to where I was at, and I needed some water. |
Oh one more place, I take them to the rocket lube. I was going to sit outside with them, because our rocket lube is really nice with upholstered furniture, etc. The owner walked outside and told me it was too windy, to bring my dogs in, everyone did. The guys took turns coming in the waiting area and playing with them LOL |
So far Bella has been to CVS, DMV, Petco, The Post Office and Walmart. And I just got her 3 days ago |
As soon as Missy has her shots, I'm taking her EVERYWHERE! I can't wait!!! :D |
I have taken them in bags (unseen) into Hallmark stores, Target, Wal-mart, Junior high school basketball games. I have taken them in the open to Blockbuster, track meets, Petco, parades, etc. |
What bag do you have Nancy? I brought Lily on the airplane in her new VB bag and she did fine but it is too big and "dog looking" to take her like a purse into a store. WV isn't as "pet friendly" as AZ. It is COLD here now too!!lol |

I also have this one - PetEdge: East Side Collection Croc Pet Carriers I have a small in brown and a medium in red. I had to pick up my daughter from high school during the school day a couple of weeks ago and had a puppy with me and so I took him in with me to get her in the small brown one. Nobody even noticed!! I don't know if I could have gotten away with it with the big red one, though. It's pretty big and draws attention. |
I live in College Station too! I've taken Bonnie to the mall, Hobby Lobby, and Petsmart/Petco around here. At home she goes to highschool football games, the mall, On the Border (once!), downtown stores, and street fairs. |
