4 Attachment(s) I have been told several times, by breeders as well as owners of both silkies and yorkies, and even my vet two weeks ago, that my lovely yorkie is really a silky. He looked way different than other yorkie puppies when I first got him, and even now he just looks... different. His hair is shorter and a little coarser than a silk haired yorkie (but not cottony, really) He weighs 13.5 lbs, his hair is really short, and his face is shaped differently. He was sold to me as a pure yorkie, but his breeder was really shady (I was so ignorant when I bought him) Here are pictures of him from when he was a puppy as well as current pictures. I hope they help figure out your baby: As a puppy: Attachment 254609 Attachment 254610 A little older: Attachment 254611 A recent hair cut: Attachment 254627 I hope that helps! |

I don't know why the pictures in my last reply turned out so small. Here is a picture taken last week of my Paddington (silky?) with my mom's purebred Yorkie, Diogi. You can kind of see the difference: http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b1...d/DSC_0080.jpg |
silky/yorkie/owner recovering Now that my bandaged hand has calmed down I can provide some insight relevant to my Silky and Yorkie fighters. They never fight over food, snacks or bones or even me. As IO lay on the couch Spelcheq curls up at my feet and rests his head on my feet and Sascha (she's smaller) curls up on my stomach and sometimes curls up down next to Spelcheq. They DO fight when Sascha snaps because Spelcheq is going to get out of the house in front of her when we leash walk and Spelcheq lets her know briefly he's not tolerating her behavior. If they're both aroused to barking at the squirrels outside, which race each other up and down a tree only 6 feet from our patio, Sascha jumps on Spelcheq for barking too close to her. Tonight I found out they fight when they both go after the same toy, which I threw for them. Never again............lesson learned. They've picked up on each's good qualities and though my Yorkie is paper trained in my apartment, Spelcheq refuses the paper and lets me know when he needs to be outside and now Sascha observes him and she also pees outdoors. They are such blessings in my life, they're fed well, have a great vet, both covered by VPI insurance, are groomed regularly and are happy go lucky dogs 98% of the time. Again, please, some advice on fighting. Do I ignore them and move away....do I blow a whistle..........spray water on them.........whatever it is I will do. I'm really afraid they'll hurt each other. To let you know how good they behave otherwise, when I go to church Sundays I'm gone for 3 hours and they never touch anything, including food and water. They resy on blankets on the back of the couch waiting for Mom. I love them both so much and would hate to break up a happy home. Please advise.: |

silky vs. yorkie I'm pretty new to this so I do not know how to start a new thread...but early today I followed some online advice and purchased citronella spray from Petsmart and an airhorn from Big 5......I had occasion to use the airhorn twice......they were just getting started barking at each other.......as a result this is the most peaceful day I've had in a while. Two short blasts and they stopped. Thanks for the new thread advice. |
Your baby looks like my boy Snitch. And i personally don't even bother with which breed should weight what, because my Snuggles is 16 lbs and all yorkie while Spyro is 9 lbs and he is a silky. |
You need to to my page and see my Tootie... they could be TWINS! WOW, they look so much alike... and he is all YT..... of course she is beautiful! d |
I was given my yorkie from a member of my family, he weighs 8.5 lbs and is super cute but want to know as well if he is a yorkie or a silky. I never got his papers and my relative has 2 other female yorkies which are considerably smaller. Can anyone tell which breed he is? |

I think...Yorkie. The size coloring and wavy hair look just like my Harley before I gave him his summer cut. See my album, he's a cutie and weighs 16.2 lbs. So much to love! |
Sure looks Yorkie to me. She is lovely. Beautiful coloring. |
1 Attachment(s) Ok, after reading this, I was hoping I could get some opinions on my Roscoe. I got him from a man that didn't want him anymore and have been trying to get his skin and hair in shape. He gave me some NKC papers, but I have never had a purebred dog and dont know if that is for sure or not. He weighs almost 10 punds. Could you guys take a look at the pics and tell me what you guys think? Thanks so much!:) |
