Hi Everyone! I just wanted to introduce Missy and I.... 1 Attachment(s) She is my first Yorkie and O...M...G! I had NO idea that these little ones were this precious. I mean, I knew that they were cute, but this is a bazillion times more than I was expecting. She is amazing! My entire family of 5 is completely wrapped around this little ones paw :animal-pa Anyways, enough gushin'...I am attempting to attach a picture of my little 7 week, 1 lb Missy and I. Please if you have any suggestions or advice for me, I'd love to hear it. I want to do everything right for this little one. I have purchased her an exercise pen, a crate, she is eating Science Diet slightly softened with warm water. She is using her pee pads diligently, I am so proud of her! Three questions that I have... I don't have her sleeping in my bed at this time as I am afraid of something happening to her. Do any of you use a water bottle or small heater for your puppy? I am worried about her getting too cold in my kitchen at night. It does get a little chillier in that room, not too bad..but I'm still concerned. Also, do you think that I could give her a little bath if I keep the house really warm, and lots of cuddles in warm towels until she's dry? Last question, pee pads are working great for now, will it be difficult to retrain her to potty outside eventually? Will she ever be big enough to use the stairs leading to the outside, or will she use pee pads forever? Thank you everyone, I've learned alot from these messageboards already, and I'm off to read more! :aimeeyork |

science diet is not a good quality food for dogs. i feed milu Nature's variety, but there are also other good quality foods that you can get for your baby. i would not let her sleep in the bed with you...i let milu sleep in the bed with me and my fiance, and now she will not sleep in her own bed at night anymore! that's not good! and i think it's really dangerous for little dogs to sleep in the bed with us!!!(so i really don't want milu to sleep with us anymore! lol ) for baths, i am not sure if your baby is healthy/old enough for baths. make sure you talk to your vet to make sure everything is all good. and the way i wash milu is i start by putting a big bath towel in the dryer, and then i wash milu with my fiance so the whole process will not take too long. when done bathing her, i get the towel out of the dryer so it's nice and warm and wrap milu in it, then i dry her with a hair dryer. (make sure it's not too hot!) good luck! and again WELCOME!:D |
Welcome to you and Lil Missy. She is a doll. Congratulations in both finding your baby and finding YT. Enjoy!:wavey: |

WELCOME TO YT Missy is so tiny and cute!!!! She is just precious!!! |
Oh she is precious! Congratulations! I keep the bathroom door closed so the warmth of the bath water stays in there. I kinda dry them most of the way before letting them out of the bathroom. As for keeping them warm at night (I've gone overboard according to hubby), I have a really, really soft and cuddly blanket in the crates on top of soft folded blankets. Then I have fleece draped over and around their crates. Their crates on in a corner of the family room which butts up to the 3 season sunroom so I always think that it is cool there. My babies didn't have problems with the porch stairs as they are deeper than normal stairs but the garage stairs seemed to be a little difficult to get used to be they did eventually. Good luck. |

Thank you so much for the great advice, and the warm welcome. I feel at home here already :D |
Welcome!!! She is SOOOO cute! What is her name? Science Diet isn't the greatest food, but since you just got her, keep her on the same food. She is under enough stress with the new home that it could upset her tummy to change. Poke around some of the threads that are in the health/diet section to hear what other's feed - and in about a month, you should probably switch. Talk to your vet before bathing...and as for at night, make sure she has a nice cushion under her in the crate and she should be fine! You can always get a small space heater for the room, just keep it far enough from her kennel that its not a hazard...and post more pics!! |
:welcome4: to YT!! :yorkietal |
Well she certainly is a cutie! When I first got Mayzie, I bought a baby doll playpen and had it beside my bed. I know, over the top right? Anyway, you already got some good advice before me. I do something similar as yorkiepuppie. I keep fleece blankets going in the dryer during the bath. I towel dry as much as possible and then wrap them in the blankets. They seem to enjoy that. She is very young, so I am not sure when to bathe her. I guess I would ask your vet. Forgot to mention about peepads. I made the decision to pad train Mayzie. She will go outside when she is out playing but 3 years later and we still use them. Mozes was 3 when I got him and he was already housebroken. Welcome to YT! |
