I fear for the tree Ok so Christmas seems to be rapidly coming this year. I have been thinking of this every since i got Pasquale in August. THE CHRISTMAS TREE!!!! We always get a real tree for Christmas. Pasquale is very nosey when we bring new things into the house. I fear that he may try to eat the tree!! Does anyone get a real Christmas tree and has a really nosey little one? And if so...how do you prevent them from going near the tree??? I was thinking of getting a little table top one since its only Hubby and I. Although i do like the charlie brown tree i decorate each year. A positive point is that I do keep an eye on Pasquale...so i dont think he can get into trouble for TOO long. But who knows....you know these little furbutts are sneaky! |
I put up our artificial tree a few days ago and Triss had no interest in it whatsoever, but my cat is another story.... Maybe try putting a free standing gate in front of it? |
Your smart to think about that. I didn't give it a thought. Buddy was 11mos when he ate the entire row of lights off the bottom of the tree, and it was lite! I have no idea how he did not get shocked! The tree was in the living room and I was watching TV in the den when I realized he had not bothered me for awhile. I went to search for him and he was under the infamous blue chair eating wire and I saw colored glass on the floor. I panicked. The tree was still lite but the bottom was not. I just couldn't believe he chewed right threw the wire and chewed off about 10" in length, the lights on the bottom of the tree! That was the only year he paid attention to it, I might add. |
We put up an artificial one and mine dont bother it. We have a new kitten thats in to everything that will though Im sure |
We always have a real tree too. But we came up with a way to keep Jamie out of it. We took a HUGE plastic trash bag and put it under the stand for easy cleanup or in case water was spilled. Then we covered the trash bag with the tree skirt. Every time Jamie stepped on the tree skirt it would make a crackling sound and I would say "Jamie leave the tree alone!" After 3 days, he knew he would get caught so he didn't even try anymore. |
I put x-pens around my tree. Doesn't look wonderful but much safer then taking any chances |
I am too thinking of getting a real tree this year. I might just put his xpen around it to protect him. |
We always get a real tree but having Alfie now we have started talking about a Fake tree so that he wouldnt eat the needles and get hurt from them.. (I think he will get hurt from everything, dont mind me)... but more importantly I didnt think of the lights and bulbs and I would hate for him to get into that... especially with his little mouth. A fence may be needed at my house... or maybe as someone said a table top tree... but we really love our big 7 footer so it will be sad not having it this year... I guess we will have to see what happens. |
We put up a large artificial tree and DH and I were talking last night and decided to not put it up this year since we have Roxie who even at 13 months is still into everything. |
Joey doesn't bother the tree, but loves the ornaments, so I'm careful with the ones I choose for the bottom. Presents stacked under the tree can keep them from getting too close. I have lots of fake presents that I keep my ornaments in and the boxes go under the tree. |
We have a small fake tree that we put up on a table. We did this when we had real trees and a cat when we were first married. Just be careful they don't drink the sap water in the bottom, I believe I heard it's not good for them or can make them sick. |
I put up a real tree the first year I had them, now I have an artificial one. My boys were fine with both trees, but did pee all over the beautiful tree skirt I had. I had to scrub it clean by hand. :( Just don't use tinsel and don't put any decorations too low to the floor, better safe than sorry. |
I don't think Stormy will bother with it. She is just so relaxed, my two year old is probably a different story though  |

Of course we had an artificial one last year, the boys never seemed to care about it. They were more interested in the colorful boxes underneath the tree than they were the tree itself. I'm afraid though, that we might find the cats hanging out in the top of the tree somehere. |
