ARRGGGG I hadn't thought about the tree. Now with two puppies I fear it will be a table tree. LOL With plastic ornaments! I can see them now the little mischief makers. |
Mine don't bother it. The cat is another story. I always put it up for a few days with no ornaments. |
My bf and I were actually discussing our Christmas tree and Ralphie with sheer terror and horror last night :p:p He is into EVERYTHING and has no problem whatsoever trying to eat glass, paper, you name it! He is such a curious little stinker that has to be into everything. I have no idea what we are going to do this year because I love real trees but I know Ralphie will scarf every needle he can get close to. Plus we are adding a new little Yorkie girl to our family next week and you know how puppies are  I have visions of her and Ralphie chewing ornaments, lights, needles...ughhh. I haven't decided what to do this year...clearly I am freaking out about it a bit :p:p (in case no one noticed yet...ha ha) |
Good Idea Rebelbelle I laughed when I read your post, because I could just read your Yorkies mind (crinkle) "Hey how did she know I was under the Tree" (crinkle) LOL:D. I used a surround thing when I was doing child care on my home years ago to keep the kids from getting to the tree. It worked great. I did find Bella eating the light wires once last year. This year my tree will be nakced on the bottom. A couple years ago my kitten climbed in the tree and knocked it over. My husband wasn't to happy with that.:(:aimeeyork |
You can put up a artifical tree and then buy live garland and a live wreath to bring the scent of pine into the house. That way you could control where the pine needles fall a little more easily and perhaps keep the puppies from snacking and/ or god forbid peeing on the live tree. Honestly though none of the dogs I have ever had like to chew on the pine needles, but they might tug on a branch or make off with your ornaments. Put the "safe to chew if stolen ornaments at the bottom to be safe." This year should be entertaining...lets see..5 dogs...3 cats...2 trees...oh what fun !!! |
I am worrying about putting up a tree this year. Last year Gypsy chewed on the light cord. It is one of those trees that have lights already on it. I do not think Gypsy will not so much this year but Puff might. She likes to chew on everything. |

LOL, I started dreading the Christmas tree issue months ago b/c of my kitten. He's always into everything and is quite destructive. Good thing he's soooo cute. |
Every year we have to put the tree in a corner, put nails in the wall, tie the tree up with string and attach it to the nails! I have an expen that will keep the dogs out but the cats, well............that's why it's nailed to the wall! |
All artificial trees here...... and the ones that I put up in the Formal Living area have all glass and crystal ornaments..:eek::eek: ...... but Shelby & Seymour aren't allowed in there.... unless we are with them.... so there is no problem there (the room is gated when we are not around). The trees in the family room are also artificial ... and very small. These are Shelby & Seymours trees, one on each side of the fireplace.... decorated with YORKIE ornaments!! :) I try to put enough packages and stuffed animals around them that they can't get to them..(I love the look of "toys" around a tree)... but they sure like sniff'in those packages!! |
ooooooh noooooo..... I never gave the pending Christmas Tree a thought until now . What am I gonna do? My older chow mix never gave me any trouble except to steal the candy canes she could reach. But Garrett now........he's a whole different story. I'm really worried what he may do. I have an artificial prelit tree, but I'm worried he'll go after the plug wire and ornaments. Oh boy....I guess I'll just have to put it up in stages and see what happens. I'll leave it naked for a few days, then add ornaments from the top down, but none within his reach. As for the candy canes..... I may have to omit those this year, because his 'big sister' is sure to share with him if she gets them off the tree :D Is peppermint bad for them??? |
We generally have an artificial tree, but the branches were close to the floor. So, the first year after we got Sophie we bought a shorter version and put it on a table about two feet off the floor. It is a real nice tree and looked really good (in fact, a friend borrowed it last year when she had a puppy and loved it). Sophie couldn't reach it, and we still had a very pretty tree. The second year we went back to our regular tree, and she was old enough to not care at all.:) Have a very Merry Christmas, and enjoy Thanksgiving too. |
My dog's first Christmas in the house, I got a smaller tree and put it on a box... higher than his head. Since he couldn't sniff the base, he didn't think to pee on it. I let him smell and investigate the top in my arms. The next year, we put it in a playpen... again, he couldn't sniff the base and we let him investigate the top in our arms, and he didn't go on it. The third year, we just got the tree, and let him sniff and investigate while we were watching... he sniffed, said, "Oh, that inside tree again," and ignored it. He's never gone on one since then, and it's been 7 years. :animal36 |
I too am worring about the tree! My fear is that all my ornaments are glass and well all our floors are hard. Harley is pretty easy going to be only 6 months old, but I just don't know if he will be able to resist all the temptation of the shinny hanging things! Of course when I think of Christmas I feel much better about Harley than his "cousin" Bandit (a wiener dog) who will literally run circles around the coffee table for hours on end! Of course Christmas day at my brother with both of them should be interesting!! Jeri and Harley:aimeeyork |
