I am too a single yorkie mom. I'm in my late 20s and boy those first couple days/weeks were rough. I too cried the first weekend I got Duke as I looked at this little (1.6lb) living creature depending on me for his life and asked myself "how am I going to do this?" But almost a year later, it has gotten better in that we have a routine now for most of the week. He stays home while mommy goes to work. Unfortunately, we just moved so I still don't have any pet friendly neighbor that can check in on him for me while I'm at work or running late. So there goes my social life. Although at times, just looking at how he would curls up on me to sleep and look at me with his loving eyes make it all worth while. As far as relationship...I can't really continue to see a guy if he's not accepting that my baby IS my baby! I'm glad this thread was started so we all don't feel so alone. |
I am also glad this thread was started!:D I had my first dog, Louis for over a year when I became single (ex-hubby left in August) and Ella Bean for about 4 months. I was pretty used to caring for them as my ex was USELESS anyway!! It was still overwhelming - my first night alone in my new apartment with the dogs. I was sooo nervous. I had never even lived on my own, since my ex and I met when I was 18 and in college. And I am really lucky because my landlord is a serious dog lover, she has two Goldens and is basically the neighborhood dog sitter, so at any given time there are at least 6 dogs in the house (including my two). A few weeks ago, Louis came down with a serious case of Gastritis and I don't have a car - it was a Friday night - my landlord was kind enough to drive us to the vet ER. I really made sure to build myself a 'doggie' network when I moved, since I was so scared of being on my own. Having the people and dogs I have found as an addition to my life has been remarkably healing. I am also SOOO grateful to YT. It was one of the first places I came for support when my husband left. It was unexpected and I had no idea it was coming...we had been planning for a future together and he loved the dogs...so its been a CRAZY fall for me...again, THANK GOD for my dogs!!! |
Oh, is anyone on this thread attending the YT meetup in July? |

You are not alone I am here for you...... |
Ok so technically I'm a single mommy. I do have my bestfriend, Jamie's "Aunt Courtney" though. She is so helpful. It is hard though because she and I always go out together, so it isn't like 1 of us can stay in with Jamie. On the rare occasion that we do go out my mom or cousin "puppysit" for us. And while Courtney is super helpful, she works full time and goes to gradschool at night, so most of the time it's me and Jamie! And on Saturday morning at 6:30 or on nights when he won't stop getting into things, I definitely wish their was a husband or some kids around to play with him... BTW, Marilyn the meetup is July 17-19th, 2009 in Alexandria, VA! Me, Jamie, and Aunt Courtney (YT Member RebelAngel) will definitely be there. I'd love to meet all the other Single Mommies there. :D |

Well, we may all be 'Single Moms' - but the general theme of this thread goes to show, NONE of us are alone! Not only do we have our furbutts, we have our YT pals! We are pretty darn lucky. Yes, it'd be nice to have some human love, but honestly, it probably would just get in the way of the fabulous snuggle routine me and my furkids have! LOL! Oh - and too Stephanie - are you planning a wedding right now? If so, we need pics of the ring bearer doing his job!! And does he (or she) have formalwear? I say its a *MUST* :D:D:D |

http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...19-2009-a.html Have to admit, since I am a local, I haven't paid much attention to the travel details, but I have flown with my dogs and its pretty easy and most airlines charge about $100 to have your furbutt fly in a bag as a 'carry on.' My name is Hilary, BTW!:aimeeyork |
Hi, I know what you're going through. I am 50 now, but 7 years ago my 2nd husband walked out on us (myself and my 2 sons who were then only 3 and 5). Although I was devastated, it was really a blessing in disguise as he was abusive. Due to a lot of circumstances that would take too long to explain and is too upsetting for me, my sons (they are both autistic) are currently living in special schools. I go and visit them on weekends. My younger son I am hoping will be able to come home before the holidays and my older son will be able to come home mid-Feb. So, at this time I am quite alone and miserable missing my boys. However, I do have 3 cats (2 persian and 1 orange tabby) along with my little furbaby, Molly. As sweet as Molly is, I have no far had no success yet with either a pee pad or outside. Although, I would imagine with patience and with time (she is only 12 weeks old), she will eventually come around. Even though there are plenty of little messes to clean up after, I wouldn't trade her for the world. Just her excited look in those dark, sparkling expressive eyes makes it all worthwhile. So, I know exactly how you feel about your little furbaby. And, yes, Molly is my only dog. Which is fine with me. |
