humans CAN eat meat but not all people do...humans most likely evolved from scavengers, not hunters. we didn't always have guns and weapons and it would be really hard to run after the animals and kill them with our hands... |
I think that as long as you hunt for a reason then its not so big a deal. Its one of those issues where i believe its smarter to just agree to disagree.:) My family are all hunters and we eat what we hunt. Your yorkie was just doing whats in his nature. although i do agree that leaving him outside when he's not an outside type dog, probably not very nice. And i love rabbits too, i've had a few over the years. |
omg! its too cold outside. I hope she meant that she was keeping it on a closed in porch with heat. If not, please bring the baby inside! I live in WV and way back a long time ago when people hunted, lots of them brought their hunting dogs inside on cold nights, even after they had killed something and they never caught any disease from them and back then, they didnt even have their shots. |
It's nothing to worry about. It's a yorkie's nature to hunt and kill small things like rodent and such. Please take her in! I live in a tropical country and Mocha shivers during baths! |
its very mean to keep him outside in the cold. my heart is breaking |
Hopefully you have brought him in by now |
I don't think the OP meant that her dog is outside. She indicated that she wouldn't let him out and that he was on the porch. I am assuming it is an inclosed heated porch attached to the house. |
Update on the poor rabbit & dog The guys came over here about an hour ago and went to look at the rabbit. Maxwell did a number on him. He ate most of it...both back legs and butt area. They told me that it is likely he could have "rabbit fever" and I need to take him to the Vet. I plan to anyways. He also needs to be bathed, so he's going into the groomers again...just was there this week. I have to decontam a lot around here. I kept him crated all night anyways incase he brought in some sort of disease. The guys bagged the poor bunny. I thought the Vet needed to see, but they don't. P.S. I put him in the crate all night and didn't leave him outside. I don't recall saying I would. |
Why are folks speciest?. You love dogs some love rabbits some say they are animal lovers. I cannot get my head around the fact that you can kill one species and eat them yet love another?. Its like having a pet pig but eat bacon.. All animal slaughter is cruel and needless. There is no such thing as painless killing. But to hunt for pleasure and sport is the worse kind of sadism. To get joy from killing an innocent sentient being ,well that person has to be sick. I truly believe in Karma (what goes around comes around) and I hope that comes true for the hunters here mentioned. No doubt I may be suspended but I dont give a toss. My opinion is just as valid as anyone elses. |

I have nothing against anyone who doesn't eat meat and prefer if those who choose not to eat meat don't judge those that do. I hope everything turns out ok at the vet. I'm sure he's fine!! |

And I agree that hunting for pleasure and sport is evil, but hunting for food is not. My apologies to the OP for having your thread hijacked. I just can't help myself but say something when I feel like I'm being judged. I'm going to drop this now. |

I haven't eaten meat in about 16 years now, but my first stance is for that of choice - in ALL things. I won't judge others for their choices. My husband eats meat - and I respect his choice in doing so. I despise slaughterhouses and think they are horrid and tortuous places, for the most part. Therefore, for those who eat meat - I actually respect them more for hunting their OWN meat, bc to me, that is more respectful toward the animal. While I could personally never, ever hunt -> again, to each their own and I hope hunters honor and respect the animals they hunt, and they often do. This thread is way off topic - and I've now contributed to that - I apologize for this, however, I felt the need to post in order to remind everyone to please remain RESPECTFUL. Okay? :) :) :) |

Take a breath and slow down. Some of us can not eat vegtables and fruit as they can kill us do to extreme allegic reactions and so we need to live on other things. As for hunting and gathering.. yeah that be the dog that caused us to be better hunters.... we/they became domestic and taught us to hunt better. Yorkies are hunters and they need meat to live. He just fell back on what he had in his gene pool. We can and are able to grow and kill animals in a humane way. That some do not and can not is not our fault but we can ask for them to try to do better. There are countries in the world that raise dogs to eat and it is the only source of protien avalible sadly but they have not room to grow cows or pigs. It is what it is and as long as we do what we do with repsect to the animal there should not be a problem to eat them as may of those animals out there go right on out and kill another to keep themselves alive. Also without farmers and farms most of those beast would not be around anyway as there is not enough natural food out there as it is. As for hunting in this time of poor economics it is the only way some can provide for thier families. Deer, elk, rabbits, duck amd moose are an important staple. As for hunting things that one can not eat that be unacceptable like bears and wolves as they re few and far between and not good to eat. You are allowed to be a believe that animals are not to eat but for me fruits are not edible and a killer. JL |
Would this be the time to mention i grew up on a pig farm:rolleyes: and loved my pigs and piglets. and eat bacon. sigh. telling you lets just agree to disagree. |

i don't have anything against people who eat meat either, i don't think people who do not eat meat are judgmental against those who eat meat. some might try to 'convert' others into a healthier lifestyle :p but might go about it the wrong way. i think you know what i mean... |
