When will the barking happen? Hahahaha...this is sort of a silly question, but when will my 18 week old start barking do you think? Her sister (from the same litter) who resides with my mom, barks a lot and has for the last month. Stawberry, however, has only barked a few times and it was like a half bark...but she can growl. I thought maybe she just isn't into it since her sister does it for her, but Strawberry is far more outgoing and energetic than Peachu so that theory seems a bit wrong. Haha. I am trying to teach her to say '"woof" open door'! So far I have a growl at me when she wants out, but when we get to the door....nothing! Hahaha! How can you teach a dog to bark? I sound ridiculous trying to make her bark. I am out there saying 'woof woof' over and over and my neighbors probably think I am nuts! Anyone else have a puppy not barking? Is it something she will grow into? |
lol... I think if i were you i would be counting my blessings! lol... I have three, two bark... and bark... and bark...........and so it goes. The other one wont speak a word. i guess she figures the jobs being taken care of. They are all adults. Roxy barks at anything... sometimes i believe she doesn't even have a clue what she's barking for. I tell her no and she usually stops. I'm waiting till the day that i have to start the pennys in a can thing. I don't have any tips for getting her to bark because i just wish my other two didn't...:p but i guess if you wanted to get her to bark to go out... have a treat on hand and when ever she barks for some reason say bark bark good girl.. and give her the treat. Go from there. Also i used the bell on the door trick it works... they ring it... but usually my girls pace to go out no barking... they give a subtle wine and pace to me and then back to the door until i let them out! Best of luck! and welcome! post pics of your baby sometime! Take care |
your baby looks adorable in your avatar pic,;) whats her name?:) |
I'm wondering the same thing! Alfie rarely barks and he's almost 6 months old. I am counting my blessings though, and thankful he is not a non-stop barker. He IS a blessing! |
Hmmm...bell on door sounds nice, but I have a three story home so if I'm not on the main level I may not hear a bell. :( I would like a bark! One woof. Haha! I dunno if it will happen. I certainly don't want her to bark at other things. With my first yorkie, when she barked at anything other than someone at the door, to be let outside to do her business, or at the cats doing their business in our flower beds...we would gently close her mouth with our fingers and say 'no barking!' and she got the idea. I don't know if it would be easier to train my puppy to bark at the right times or not to bark at the wrong times. Haha! My baby's name is Strawberry. Hehe. My first and only pet before Strawberry was a yorkie named Kiwi. I got her when I was 6 and she was amazing! I decided to name Strawberry after her. Sorta. I figure the next best thing to a Kiwi is a Strawberry! ;) Thanks for the idea of the bell. I may have to go there is Strawb doesn't pick up the barking. Haha. She can growl. That is a start, eh? ;) |
cocoa just started barking a little more at 7 mo. She mostly barks to play or at a squirel thru the window. I don't think she will ever be a big barker. We use the bell and I can here it from upstairs. |
my Gracie didnt bark for awhile... but sure enough... shes a barker!!! lol I use the bells too... but now she whines when she needs to go out... and she will ring the bells too... with all yorkies they are diff.. but with Gracie if Im not on the main level shes with me... and she will whine if she needs to go potty... so good luck on that...;) |
count your blessings....I think they also learn from other barkers...My 2, 12 week pups like to bark but they hear the other little yakers in my house...Smile.... |
My little Cody is a year old and doesn't bark. He'll let out a couple of yips every now and then when he's playing with his sister but he won't bark. I'm thrilled. Kaysi's a barker but will be stop when I tell her to. |
Mocha used to not bark ever, then nowadays, at night in my room, when she hears someone moving about outside the room, she will bark for a little while. I think she's learning from my older dog, who barks when there are sounds at the gate. So one barks when there are noises at the gate, one barks when there are noises outside of the room, but only at night. GREAT guard dogs :D |
I would definitely go with a bell on the door! I myself am currently trying to get my little serial barker's habit in hand before he drives me nuts... I do remember when he was a baby and my roommate and I thought it was SOOOOO cute when he barked. Now I wish I could've gone back to that first day and said "No Bark!" |
Maybe she doesn't have anything to say! |
Hahaha! She has plenty to say. She is very demanding. But she growls, whines, whimpers, and jumps on me to let me know. I will look into the bell idea. :) I have a feeling she has it in her to speak and hopefully if she does start barking more I can channel it. Thanks for the comments. It is nice to hear that other puppies didn't bark at an early age either. I wasn't really worried, but it seemed strange to me. Haha! |
