Do You Have 3 or more Yorkies?? If you have 3 or more yorkies (or any other typed dog) please tell me how you manage so many dogs?? How many dogs do you have, what are their ages, how did you end up with so many dogs??? |
I don't. But I would love too, I love animals. My fiancee would have a cow :) |
I frequently dog sit my Mom's 2 yorkies + my yorkie = 3. They are a handful. They get tangled on leashes. It is hard to give them all quality time and attention. It is a lot of work. What scares me is when a big dog is not on a leash and I can't pick all 3 up to protect them. |
Good post. I'm curious too b/c I want a 2nd and am wondering if it really will be that much more work... |
I do. :) Here is a good thread from yesterday on the same subject: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...aving-2-a.html |
3 Yorkie's Now I started out w/my first Yorkie, Artie he was so impressive I fell in Love w/the Breed. I used to Breed Pitbulls and Rottwielers and I was raised w/Dogs while growing up. I used to want to be a Vetrinarian. After I had him for a year I decided to get another one to Breed w/him. I purchased Abigail from a Local Breeder who eventually would "Mentor" me in breeding Yorkies. 2 yrs. ago I had my first Litter of 3 and I kept them for 20 wks. before they were Sold. So for that period of time I had 5 Yorkie's total. Now I just have the 3, I kept the smallest puppy that was a runt, she is only 5 lbs. Artie is now 4 yrs. old and Abigail is 3 yrs. old and Pom Pom is 2 yrs. old. I am very attached to them but if something were to happen to any of them I would NOT replace them b/c I have learned that each one is so unique and different that no two are alike in any way. If I had the room I would have at least 10 Yorkies running around, the more the merrier! It's NOT alot of work when the are well Trained & Socialized. |
Maggie is 8, her son Rocky is 6, Sunnie is 4, her son Jack is 1 & currently we are babysitting Rainbow who is 2 and is Rocky & Sunnie's daughter. We have a Queen size bed and they all sleep together right down the middle starting with Jack (between the pillows) then Sunnie, Rocky, Rainbow and Granny Maggie at the foot. Last Saturday was bath/grooming day and it took 4 hours (I'm recovering from colon surgery and it took a little longer than usual because I had help bathing them). They have doggie doors and a fenced yard so we don't have the "let the dog out, let the dog in" issue. If we go to the beach we usually take 2 at a time and then come home for the other 2, it's only 4 miles to the lake. |
I have three...two yorkies and a biewer. I have them all because I'm nuts. Okay I got Ramsey first...she's now 3...my friend mustangbee had a litter and gave me the best gift ever...Reese...he's almost 2 then we added Reggie the biewer this past April...he's almost 9 months. Reggie.... I got because I decided I had to have a biewer... It is more time consuming, some more work, a bit more money....but 3 times the love. It all equals out. :) |
Yes, I have five right now. I started with Shadow (almost 8 yrs old) and he was my one and only until last July when we rescued Gellica (3 yrs old). Then, these two had a litter of 4, and we got Sapphire 3 days later (because we were already on a waiting list for her, and didn't know back then that we would be having our own pups) - so that brings us to 7 yorkies. Well, we ended up keeping two from our litter (Phantom & Brandi) and they will be turing one on Halloween! Phew, so that's my story of how we ended up with so many, and all their ages. Now, if your question is "How much work is it" - well, I won't lie to you, it IS work, but it's all worth it!! There was no problem adding one dog to make two. The biggest adjustment, I think, is "more than two", but once you can handle three, there isn't much difference between 3 and 5. |
Well, I have three right now: Ceasar 12, PiP(whose a Silky) 7 and Max 1. I've always had yorkies. After our last one died, I swore NO MORE. Well, three months later a friend asked if I would be interested in a yorkie that needed a home (owner was elderly). He was almost 10. Wasn't sure if I wanted to take on a senior after just recently losing one, but decided to take him (ceasar) About a year later we decided to add another and went thru a yorkie rescue. We picked Pipi. Her and Ceasar got along fine. Another year later, friends decide they don't have time for the yorkie they purchased and asked if we could take him (Max). How do you turn down a free yorkie puppy? Anyway, he made 3! Yes it can be crazy at times, especially when you add kids and family to the mix, but a good crazy. Of course, it can get a little expensive too, with 3 (heartworm preventitive alone costs a small fortune) but we wouldn't have it any other way. I'm looking forward to the day I can add a couple more!!!! I know, I'm yorkie crazy!!! and proud of it!!! |
We have three also, Chewy 4.5 yrs - 12 lbs - then came Choupette, 4 yrs - 8 lbs (Chewy was lonely) then I got Tucson who is now 3.5 yrs - 5 lbs (for me). They have their moments but all in all would not have any less. Love it. Walks are a bit more confusing, Chewy and Choupette are real pullers but Tucson who walks by our side really well gets pulled all over the place and has to run to keep up finds it somewhat exhausting. So I end up taking the two pullers and hubby gets to walk with Tucson. Quite the picture. :) More work? yes but also a lot more fun |
I have 3 and its really not much harder than 2.. |
I have 5 Yorkies. I started out with one puppy four years ago. His name was Gizmo. He was the only fur child, and he was my world. He made every step I made, and I loved him with all of my heart. He was not very social, and was very protective of me. I was happy with only Gizmo, had never thought of getting another, until October of last year when I seen this tiny little yorkie girl in the local pet store. She looked so little compared to (her brother) that was with her. Some time passed, and I would walk through there when I would take my son to the mall. The little boy was bought, but not the little girl. More time passed, they got two more yorkies in who was so much bigger than that poor little girl. I came in a couple weeks later, and those yorkies had sold, but not the little girl. I guess she just stole my heart, because last November I bought her. We named her Tenci, and she only weighted a little over a pound when I brought her home. Gizmo hated her, but she tried so hard to be his friend, but in February the worst possible nightmare happened. I lost my baby Gizmo after having liver shunt surgery. I wanted to die too. A family friend bought my son another yorkie shortly after Gizmo passed away to give Tenci a friend. We named him Trouble, and he will be one year old in December. Tenci turned One in July. I loved both Tenci and Trouble, but I was so lost with out Gizmo. I sat every day searching the internet, looking at yorkies for sale. Thats when I joined Yorkie Talk offically. I wasn't for sure what I was looking for, but I couldn't stop. Then one day I wondered across a web site with this little furry guy for sale. He had that look, I guess that reminded me of Gizmo. I contacted the breeder about him. He was small and she did not want to ship him alone. I tried to work out other arrangements to get him, but she ended up offering me another yorkie at a very discounted price so they could be together on the plane. I agreed thinking that I could find him a good home once he got here, but when my son seen this little guy he was not letting him go, so that brought us to four with the addition of Chip who turned One this past October 11th, and Gus who will be One in January. Then a few weeks ago the breeder offered me another deal, this time on a little guy who is the half brother to Chip and Gus. A friend of mine was gonna take him, but found out one of her puppies may have to have surgery so she couldnt. He looked so cute, and I had grown attached to him, so here we go again, with Pee Wee I have 5. Pee Wee will be one in March. It was a huge battle going from one to two, but adding Chip and Gus was not that hard because Tenci and Chip are tiny. Trouble and Gus are a little bigger, so it worked out because now everyone has someone to play with. and now Pee Wee is just one of the gang. I have a fenced in back yard, for them to play, they have X-pens while I am gone, and Pee Pads by the back door. They all are pretty well potty pad trained, learning to go outside. My boys always wear belly bands when they are anywhere besides the kitchen, and so far it is working out. I miss the one on one time that I had with Gizmo, but these guys are well socialized, and seem to love everyone. Sometimes I look at Tenci and think she really needs a sister... Maybe someday... |
