| Is having 3 dogs really that much harder than having 2? Hi So I have 2 dogs and a cat, and I'm dying for a new puppy. I love animals, and just really want another. My friends and family tell me I shouldn't get another puppy right now, but I want one so bad! Is it really that much harder having a 3rd dog than it is just having 2?

| If weather is a factor, e.g., housebreaking, I'd wait until Spring.

| Do you want another DOG, or just a Puppy???? Is it the baby stage you love and miss???? Just be aware (as you well know), that stage is brief, and ya can't keep getting puppies just to experience it.

| Yes, I think it's a lot harder. It's nearly impossible to walk three dogs. It's harder to travel with three dogs. It's also a lot harder to get hotel reservations and such with three dogs. Everything takes 3 times longer and are 3 times more expensive. I've already decided, 3 is definitely my limit!

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I have been told by a few good friends with more than three that it's easy because they learn from each other and fall into place.... but I am not sure. I have two now and it's a bit rough at times with everything (house breaking, walking, bathing and attention). I also have a cat, three skin children and fish. So that is a determining factor for me.

| It can work out, but occasionally it won't. Three is sometimes called "a crowd" and it can be quite a problem for the other two dogs if the new dog decided she/he does not like the current pecking order. Aggression can rear it's ugly head, and you will end up having to constantly separate or cage the offending dog. Personalities are very difficult to assess in a puppy, and most breeders will add a clause in their contract stating that incompatibility with other family pets is not a reason for return. If you do decide to get a new addition, then look for a pup that is a little more laid back than it's litter-mates. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Well I don't have problems walking three...but realize it means 3 dogs to load into crates in the morning, multiple trips to the car to carry said crates, 3 to feed, 3 to bathe, 3 to brush daily, 3 to groom...without discussing the expense of a third..in food, treats, clothes, or any other extras.

| I thought about getting a third but when I considered emergency care expenses(ya never know when your going to have one) plus extra vet expenses I decided to stay with two. Plus My Jewels is really a baby and she is a nervous dog and I dont know how she would do with another one in the house

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have 3 yorkies and a pom. It is a bit overwhelming considering up until 3 years ago I always had only one dog at a time. It helps that I no longer work and don't really mind not taking vacation. It is expensive for vet care too. But I love them all!

| Wow I am always amazed by how people have more than 2 dogs no matter what the breed is. I used to have 2 and when your family is in the same geographical place and your not travelling for weeks at a time its fine..but now I only have 1 because when I travel to meet my family back home for weeks at a time, dog sitting is very expensive not to mention I worry about him every single day. Just couldn't imagine having 3...3 times the expenses, vet care, homecooking...wow.. I guess I'll just stick to one for now and a playmate friend once in a while.

| It's such a temptation! I understand your wanting three. Especially Yorkies; they are just so precious and adorable. But...besides being precious and adorable, they are demanding, energetic, bossy with you and each other, expensive to maintain, time consuming, and your vet bills could be astronomical if anything goes wrong with them. My limit is two. I can manage two, but I admit, I have room in my heart for a ton of them! My little "Frenchie" Terriers! http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g5...006/bosses.jpg |
