Bobbed or Long Tails?? I have a question.....do you prefer the bobbed tails or the long ones? I have a litter and have had several people ask me about leaving the tails and not getting them bobbed. I have never done that and just curious to know what you all think of that. Thanks! Jill |
I love the shorter docked tails. I think they are so cute and I love when my Tia wags her litlte nub nubbin. :p I just wish they could put them out for this or numb it so that the little babies don't feel anything. :( |
I definitely prefer the long tails! As we're in the Uk its becoming more unusual to see a docked tail! I know some say there can be hygiene issues, but Mika has never had an issue and I'm growing her coat and have never clipped under her tail and never had a problem! Besides if tails were "bad" for them then they would be born without! As far as I know tails were originally docked in ratting terriers mainly because when the dogs went down small holes after their quarry the only way to get them out was to pull their tail and if the tail was long it often broke or became damaged, a docked tail is much sturdier. But I doubt many people want to go around dragging their babies by the tail! I think the "fashion" for a docked tail is dying out (at least, it seems that way to me) and I really hope you decide to leave your babies with their most versatile "limb"!!! |
Got Pics? Do you have any side view pics of your baby with the long tail? I have never even seen one. |
I like long tails. docked is cute too, that's what my Chewy has, and when she's excited it's funny to see her little butt wag and her little nubbin of a tail wag, but I think a long tail would be pretty! And floppy ears. I love floppy ears. |
If these people are seriously interested in your pups... I would get a small deposit from them and leave the tails if that is what they want. I wouldn't leave a full tail unless the pup was too small to have it docked. Good luck with your pups!! :) |
TJ and Roxy have 2 inch tails ~ which I think is way better than just a little numb of a tail. BUT ~ Cuddles and my Mom's boy Cole have Full Tails and I have so say that I LOVE it  Full Tails are really adorable and for some reason I do think it gives the dog more stablity, makes them more aerodynamic. "IF" I get another one, I would be on the lookout for one with a full tail ;) |
poppys fan tail :aimeeyork poppy has a long tail i think that long tails rock  when poppy wags her tail which is quite often it looks like a fan . but i suppose its down to personel choice  love jill n poppy |
i'm amazed at how much i'm learning here! i saw a video here of a gorgeous dog wagging her tail, and totally thought it was a different breed. ROTFL!! i soo didn't even give their little nubbies a thought. lol. how funny. in this house, i think charlie not having a long tail is an advantage, because it would be a handle for the babies in this house. yipe. |

I myself prefer docked. That the way they are suppose to be |
I prefer the look of docked tails and think since that is standard in the US, that is what should be done (unless someone leaves a deposit and asks you not to). If it is done right and at the right time it should cause very little pain and there isn't much risk to it. Ellie has a very short tail (too short) and it doesn't slow her down one bit.:) |
I like the docked tail |
thanks!! OK so they don't curl up really? For some reason I pictured them in my mind as curling up. I have 3 Papillons too and theirs curl up and I think I just had it in my head that Yorkie tail left long would do the same. Thanks for sending the pics, if you have more, I would love to see them. THanks again! Jill Quote:

I have always had my litters docked, and at 3 days old, they cry for about 10 minutes and then they are done, but I was very curious to know what people think, as I am getting several people asking me about leaving them long. Thanks so much everyone and please continue to respond. Send pics if you have one that has a long tail. Thanks! Jill |
