I feel so bad for hurting her... Okay, Cassi's hair has finally grown out long enough for me to tie her hair up. However, I noticed after one day all the hair around the rubber band becomes all matted. Usually by the 3rd day, it gets really messy and matted that I have to take a scissor to cut off the rubber band and then I have to use a large tooth comb to take out the matted hair. While taking out the matted hair, I notice alot of her hair comes out (they come out as fuzz balls and I feel really bad b/c I'm sure it hurts... I don't know what to else to do b/c if I leave her hair down it covers her entire eye. I'm thinking about just cutting it short but it won't look as nice. Any suggestions. |
Are you using rubber bands or those little hair bands. I buy a pack of 100 at the dollar store and they seem to cut down on problems with her top knot (when she has one) Of course, short hair is cute too!:) |
I use the little soft scrunchies, you can get a big bag from the dollar store. They come in an array of colors. Change it out everyday. |

I use infant/child size scrunchies, covered in terry cloth type fabric. It prevents 90% of the tangles. This is all Gracie will tolerate. She hates grooming bands. I find them at Walmart or put out the request at GE time. |
I always put my dogs' hair up in the morning and take it down at night before we go to bed. I only use latex bands and I try to always cut the band so we don't have as much hair breakage. I wouldn't leave the same band in for days at a time |

If you are not using conditioner on her top knot you might want to start, it hleps mine. |

I redo Roxie's several times a day and recomb it. For those that leave it out at night, how do they see? Roxie's would be all in her face. |

i sooo want charlie's hair to grow out enough to be groomed right, and maybe have a top knot, or those awesome side ponytails. i'm so glad i found this forum. i'm learning so much. now, i'll better understand how to take care of one. :):) jeffie doesn't want him to look like a girl, but i keep showing him that a yorkie is a yorkie whether it's a girl or not. i don't plan on bows, but i'd love to let his hair grow a little. |
I usually put a band on in the a.m. then take it out at some point in the evening and rub their heads. I have been cutting the bands off instead of pulling them off. Sometimes with their rough play, it comes out. |
Ok. How do you guys get your babies to stay still when you put the band in or the clip or bow? I got a clip and a bow for Zoe and there is no way in hell she will let me put it on her.. I've even tried having my son give her a treat while I try but no progress. :( |
1 Attachment(s) I'm sorry you are having trouble with Cassi's hair. The bands shouldn't be the problem. They are high quality latex grooming bands. I think the fact that you are leaving the topknot in for three days is the problem. You should take it out every night. How are you taking the bands out? If you are rolling and pulling at them you will mat the hair. I love band removal scissors. You just hook the band and snip. |

I have found this to be the easiest way. I have Mia sit on my lap with her head facing away and I can easily comb her hair and put it in a topknot. |

I'd love to see a picture! |

I have the same problem with Lacy. She really hates having her hair put up and those bands are so little..... She will leave it alone as long as I am looking at her, but the minute the back is turned... there it goes. I've tried clips and bands and bows... nothing stays for more than about 30 min. |

I tried not to tie it so tight and the last picture she's sporting one of your bows. :D |

You can also try the ouchless for kids. It's sold at walmart, at the hair accessories. Make sure you get the pack that comes in different colors for kids. I use it on cuddles and I love it! Because it comes out so easily and its real stretchy. |

Put them up on the counter where they are pretty close to you, with no distractions. With practice, they will get used to you putting bows in, and learn that the more cooperative you are, the quicker it is over :) I don't know what kind of bands you are using, but I use the non-latex kind. They are the best bands I've found...and I have received many compliments on them. I remove Darcy's by cutting, or if I am changing in the same day...I just slide the end of a rat tail comb under it, and it comes right off... here is a description of what I use: These are our highest quality elastics. They are made from premium quality, heavy weight, medical-grade synthetic poly-isoprene. This space-age material out-performs all other elastic bands. Better performance without the risk of allergic reaction. Unlike Latex, these are clear to make a better presentation and they will not absorb water. Feels and works like Latex, but with better results. We are one of the first companies to offer this new advanced grooming band. Give these a try and you will be glad you did. We are introducing them at the same low price. The e-bay seller is here: 500 Latex-Free Dog Grooming Bands - CLEAR, 3/8" - eBay (item 260302594829 end time Oct-25-08 20:19:37 PDT). I also sell smaller quantities in my store! |
