I'm hurt!! I said something to a couple coworkers about "at least I have my dogs to help protect me" and they laughed at me!!! They said that it was "cute that I thought like that". If need be, I know my dogs would fight to protect me! One of them asked what size my little one was and I said that he is 8 lbs and she laughed even harder and said anyone could just kick him against a wall. I feel like crying...:confused: |
Aww That was mean to say. Hugs!! |
People can be so mean! Don't listen to them! Mine tries to protect me all the time! |
ahh don't pay attention to them. Of course our babies try to protect us, we you also protect them because they are so small. Some who don't own small dogs always react like that, they think of them as little rats, but they don't know what they are missing!!! |
Yes, they are small, but someone forgot to tell them that!! My Gellica (8 lbs) would do anything to protect her yard and her family (humans included!) She has even tried to go after this huge black dog across the street who must weigh over 140 lbs -- he looks like a black grizzly bear - I've had to hold her back! She has no fear -- and doesn't like anything getting "too close". They are great protecters! Don't listen to anyone who doesn't have yorkies -- they just don't know how they are, and they are truly a unique breed. |
awww girl... its true that they are small and probably wouldn't take much to get hurt or pushed aside, but they got a fighter spirit and will try to protect you best as they can! :) don't let people get you down! |
Awww, just because they are small, doesn't make them any less of a fighter. Hot Rod is my little alarm when someone is in the backyard and he's even run ahead of me when he hears something that doesn't sound just right. I know that if push came to shove, Hot Rod would fight for me. Now Maggie...well she'd lick the person to death! lol. |
Aww, don't listen to them! They don't know what these little pups can do! :) |
People can be so rude! I know someone made the comment to my husband when she seen a picture of Caylee "why didn't we get a real dog?" He told me about it and said she was kidding, but I thought it was rude to say. |
Yorkies may be small but they're fearless. Just after Hurricane Katrina, we were sweltering so had the house open to let some air in. We had a baby gate at the front door but I had opened it to feed the cat. Just then someone came walking by on the street with a Rottweiler. Archie and Caty bolted out before I could catch them and headed straight for the Rottie (luckily he was on a leash). Anyway, they got to him in about 2 seconds and starting running circles around him, in opposite directions, and barking like crazy at him. That poor Rottie was so confused he didn't know which way to turn, his head going back and forth trying to just keep up with them. I got to them very quickly and scooped them up, thanking the Rottie's owner for being able to hold on to his dog and apologizing for my dogs being so mean :D. Though it was my fault it happened and they were being 'bad', it was amazing to see their instincts. They really are big dogs in little bodies. |
I know my babies would protect me because they have. One time I was going to be home all alone over the night and hubby was about ready to leave for work. We heard a noise and decided to check it out. Well, no sooner did we get the door to our room open, Chip was already down the stairs. He went all over the main floor and checked every nook and cranny out, then proceeded to the basement. He did the same thing there, then ran right back to the top floor, checked everything there, then went back in the room and sat in the doorway as if to say "Okay it's safe!" Smokey also has started growling really low, mean growls in the middle of the night if he hears something unusual. |
Yorkies might be small but they don't know that. They have the spirit within to protect what is their territory and your part of his territory. Buddy came detached from his leash, I have no idea how and charged a Husky being walked on a leash. Had no fear at all. Went after the Husky's feet growling and running around him like a crazy dog! I was shocked and realized they truly are big dogs in little dog bodies. The owner asked me if "THAT THING" has all his shots. I can laugh now but at the time I was speechless at his actions. |
Some people are so rude they just they can say anything to you and then follow it with "oh i was just kidding" and it still doesnt hurt. I would never say something to hurt someone. Just chalk it up to ignorance and dont let them get to you. Be glad someone like that doesnt have a little dog. They just dont get it!! :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I agree. These little ones are definitely fearless. The other day I brought mine to go get some mail and there was a Rottweiler in the backyard of the house just by the mailbox. My boy and the Rottweiler bark at each other really loud and my boy didn't even back down. He sounds like he was gonna charge and kill the Rottie argh...I had to get him out of there quick. |
Awwwwwwwwwww, like all previous posters have said. Don't let those IGNORANT people get you down. We ALL know what our babies are made of and how far they would go to protect us. Even though Ceasar is only 14 weeks of age he is very protective and has a deep, throaty growl (WHICH I ADORE), and he will charge out to investigate in the middle of the night if he hears an out of sort noise or the neighbours Shepherd barking. Taylor is our skunk alarm. She has the ability to hear and or smell them from inside the house and will always sound the alarm whenever one is near. :D Those people who tease us about our little darlings just don't know what they are missing. I know because SADLY before we acquired Taylor nearly 5 months ago I WAS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE. (SORRY YORKIE LOVERS EVERYWHERE) Up until then we were big dog owners and to be honest I never knew what people seen in these little SWEETHEARTS. Well NOW I KNOW and I am FOREVER a Yorkie lover. :animal-pa :aimeeyork :animal-pa |
People are just plain rude sometimes. The saddest part is they don't even realize they are being rude sometimes and they think we are being to emotional and such. Wrigley barks up a storm when someone walks into our apartment... until they greet him of course lol |

To heck with what she thinks of a small dog.... we are the fortunate ones that have our Yorkies! They don't .. and could never understand the joy that comes with our being so fortunate.. their loss not ours!!!:D And to the really fortunate ones with two or more Yorkies... double:D:D. Cheryl & Mandy! |
awww Some people are just rude and thoughtless!!! Don't let it bother you! Our mix dog Dakota weighs almost 80 lbs..and My Daizy (5 lbs) thinks she is every bit as big as Kota when it comes to someone coming to our house!! lol Size doesn't matter in the mind of a yorkie! Probably why I love them so much!! Tiny Lions at heart!! |
I just bought a shirt for a yorkie boy that said, "little dog, big attitude" I thought it was perfect!! :) |

You need to send them a link to AlaskaYorkie's website article about people making fun of little dogs. It was a great article! |
You know this is one reason I like Yorkies better than people, have you ever heard a Yorkie put a person down based on size or whatever!:p |
Well....Captain Jack is a lover not a fighter, but I've gotta tell you I feel safer with my 4lb chihuahua sleeping in my daughter's bed than I would with my 40lb springer spaniel there. That little chi loves my daughter dearly. If someone tried to hurt Payton(daughter), Fiona(chi) would definitely defend her! She would chew their toe off or die trying!!!! It is really amazing how loyal these little guys are. |

Don't worry about it... Some people are just rude for no reason. |
Sadie sleeps in the living room at night. I can hear her walk up and down the hall sometimes (we have hardwood floors and Im a light sleeper) and it reminds me of a soldier standing watch or something! When someone knocks on the door, her ears perk up and she trots right over to the door waiting for someone to open it so she can investigate the visitor (normally by jumping up on them demanding a "Hello" from them. Something I have to teach her not to do, somehow). What I like to think is that Sadie is my alarm system. She isnt going to take down anyone but she is going to let us know that something is going on that we need to pay attention to! Thats more reliable than HOPING your big dog would attack someone if they broke in. Atleast I KNOW Sadie will bark and raise hell at them first to let us know something is going on. |

I have 4 yorkies and one big dog (1/2 Husky, 1/2 Akita). When someone's at the door whether it be day or night - our little ones let us know, the big dog ONLY starts barking after the little ones bark first. So yeah, you are exactly right! Some people are just clueless! |
Ya know what? That's just not true! I had an 8 lb Silky that sounded like a german shepard! He ran after someone once and she jumped up on the hood of her car and wouldn't come down even afer I retrieved him! Another time I got lost trying to find the interstate in a big city. My little 8 lb. dog would not let anyone near my car and one guy just walked away and mumbled that he wasn't gonna do that! |
