Pics of 6-7 pound yorkies 1 Attachment(s) Sasha just got back from the vet and she is 6.5 lbs at 8 months (next Tuesday to be exact)! I was shocked because she was 5.6 at her last visit about a month or so ago and her vet said she would probably only gain about a pound more and fill out a bit. But I thought that 1 pound would come much later. She's literally gained a pound a month since I've gotten her! She gets lot of exercise and her vet still thinks she's a healthy weight. But she doesn't look almost 7 pounds to me. She can still fit nicely on my lap and I'm a small woman myself (5'3", 118 lbs.). She is a little long IMO but she can contort herself into such a small little ball. I'd like to see other pics 6-7 pound yorkies if you have them to do a little comparison. Here's a full body pic of her that was taken last month although she still looks to be the same size to me today. Is this what a "normal" 6-7 pound yorkie looks like? lol |
I wish i could send you a picture but all i have is some information that might be helpful. She might just have more dense muscle, which would explain weighing more than she looks. everyone's muscle is different which is why some people look about 100 lbs and really weigh 130. so maybe that is why she weighs more than she looks :) |
I knew that about people but never really thought to apply it to dogs. You could be right. Thanks! :) |
1 Attachment(s) Right now Layla is 7.4 lbs but she needs to loose a pound. |
ha no problem I just got back from the vet and was talking to him about the same thing. He said things like bones and muscle mass will really confuse people when it comes to small dogs. (my little guy is really short and has a little wider rib cage so my vet said he might weigh more than he appears to be when he becomes full grown) and then i got home and read your post ha |
Awww Layla is adorable. She just looks fluffy :) Her torso seems shorter than Sasha's but her head is bigger, so I guess, as sumosmommy implied, they just carry their weight differently as do people. Thanks for sharing your pic! |
Interesting, Sasha has a wide rib cage too so I guess she's got the same thing going on. |
she looks just fine to me , our yorkie sophie is 11 months old and weighs nearly 4 kilos, but we call her skinny kinny, cos she is long and thin despite the weight, I know her t shirt is 35 cms which fits perfectly, its a great weight, small enough but sturdy too, hour walks arn t enough she has the stamina of an ox !!! |
She looks perfect to me. My Daizy and my sister's yorkie both weigh 5 1/2 lbs...but my sisters yorkie FEELS much lighter....Daizy feels so much heavier lol...she feels like Muscle! And Sophie feels so delicate and dainty! lol so that is a definate difference. |
1 Attachment(s) Gracie is 6 1/2 lbs. |
6.8 lb'er 1 Attachment(s) Pebbles is 10 mths. & 6.8 lbs. She's light but to me she's long. |
Well Kayla hit the 8lb. mark her last visit. She looks about the size of yours. She certainly doesn't look 8lbs. She is just a little chuncky monkey I guess. She loves to eat. But, even though the smaller ones are darling I am more comfortable with her being the size she is because I am so afraid of them getting hurt. BYW she is a cutie. |
Cody is 6.5 lbs, he is supposed to be around 5.5 though. |
If you get a chance to go to a show or look at pics of Yorkies that are being shown they are all usually in the 6-6.5 range. Some dogs are a bit more dense than others--even if they are the same height. I wouldnt worry about her weight as long as your vet says shes healthy. She is definitely a cute little girl! |
I guess a picture would be good:rolleyes: |
ok it's not letting me post a picture |
1 Attachment(s) I guess a picture would be good:rolleyes: |
awe what a cuite. Might weigh more because a little longer but skinny. |
Thanks! Thank you to EVERYONE for your replies and pics of your babies :aimeeyork It's become apparent to me that a 6-7 pound yorkie can take on many shapes and sizes depending on a lot of variables so I feel better and don't think I'm crazy anymore. :p lol And thanks also goes to those who complimented my own baby! |
Don't worry about the weight if the vet says she is healthy. Lucy is about 8 lbs and SOLID. I think her body and legs are a little long, and she is definitely muscular. Ella is much more dainty, but time will only tell... I thought maybe Lucy was overweight but she is not overeating food and we have cut back some on treats. She's just a sturdy girl...and thank GOD because she is also a tomboy. I'd be a nervous wreck if she were itty bitty. |
My 7 pound Belle at 5 months old 4 Attachment(s) My Belle is now 5 months and weighs 7 pounds and I dont think she is done growing yet, Here are some current pictures of her. |
2 Attachment(s) Jackson's a whopping 13 pounds at 6 months old but he's not overweight. He's got a good "shape" and especially when he's wet you can see how "skinny" he is. He was 6 pounds at his 12 week appointment and when I took him in at 16/17 week appt. he had went up to 8.6 pounds! but I agree- even though he's definitely bigger, he still seems small to me! this was Jackson at 6 pounds at 12 weeks old... |
1 Attachment(s) My sweet Sadie (may she RIP) was 6-6.5 pounds. We sure do miss her. |
When you weigh at the vets you always need to ask for them to be weighed on the cat scale. The dog scale is accurate for big dogs, but not little ones. And with the little ones a slight variation is actually a big variation. Maxwell weighed 5.6 on the dog scale and 6.2 on the cat scale. |

If you look in my album, there is a pic of Wylie and Marcel on the first day we brought Marcel home. In that pic, Marcel is 1 lb. 4 oz. and Wylie is about his usual 6-6.5 pounds. :) |
I have to say that my Pebbles is a 10.5 lb teapot but she is so muscular and really not that big. Of course she is nowhere near the size of a 5 lb pup but to look at her she really is not that large. Much more than my other two, they each feel differently when I pick them up. |

3 Attachment(s) My girl weighed in at 6.3 lbs at the vet's (baby scale) back in February at a year old. She's currently at the same weight on my food scale. Measuring from base of neck to rump and then from rump to floor, she comes in at 11" x 11". A skinny girl but a fair sized rib area. The following pictures are all current within the past month (March/April). Her hair's growing in a bit so it hides her skinny legs well, but here's her length relative to a Wii Fit balance board in Picture #1. Her size relative to a Hide-A-Squirrel Jr. in Picture #2. Finally, in Picture #3, she's showing off her body at full stretch. :) |
