Horribly bad breath!!! Help!!!
 
Lately Canella's breath stinks pretty bad:eek:...im sure it cant be normal...i used that petzlife everytime i give her a bath but i guess that is not enough...PLEASE ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I buy mine Hartz Dentist's Best Chew treats (for small dogs under 20 lbs.)

i buy them at walmart and tyke loves them they also help his breath alot.
some people on here may not approve, but it's what works for us.;)

Well, if your dogs teeth have a lot of plaque and tarter buildup, they may need to get them cleaned at the dentist---wet food also does not help with getting rid of that buildup either.

Give lots of bones to help get all that off!!!! :)

so wet food is not good?...i mix canella's wet food and dry food

Think about it this way....well, what makes more sense?! If you give dry kibble, its gonna cause them to really bite into it, (sorta like a toothbrush) so it will help pull away that plaque and tarter, right!? well, wet food will just add to it. I'm not one for wet food, but since your mixing it, it shouldnt be that bad.... But, if you notice a lot of buildup, more than likely bones, brushing, or better smelling breathe aids arent going to do justice...a good dental cleaning is key, and after that you can try to brush the teeth---like ive said before terriers in general are prone to having bad teeth..:thumbdown

I feed a mix of both wet and dry,there is nothing wrong with wet,but it will not help remove any plaque from the teeth therefore you need to brush the teeth regularly and give some kind of dentabone for her to chew on.

Canella is 9 months she was retaining her two front teeth but in the past week one has fallen out but she still has one...could that be the cause?...i never brush her teeth i tried to a couple months ago but i cant find a tooth brush small enough for her and everytime i try to brush she absolutely hates it!

That could very well be the cause. When Fiona turned 5 months old she lost 3 teeth that day, and her mouth stunk! Probably from the dried blood! She should be young enough where you can start her on brushing her teeth. if you have to, get a baby toothbrush, or, just get some toothpaste (of course made for dogs, since ours has too many harsh ingriediants for dogs) and put some on your finger, and just use your finger, so she gets the idea of it. :rolleyes:

No Problem. I hope it works for you!!!! If you can get in the habit now, it will help out in the long run!!!!!! Im so against pig ears , but the breeder gives them to her dogs, and fiona, and i have to say they have gorgeous teeth!!!!!!

I just noticed that I so wrote DENTIST! I"m silly!!!! The vet dentist i should say!

Eh, You could probably get away with once a week.:cool:
I used to brush my doxies teeth all the time cuz they loved it, but the vet said once a week should be fine!

That's actually not true. Here is a good qoute:
Dry food does not clean the teeth. If it did, you and I could floss with toast. At best, dry food produces a little less tartar than canned food. Regular vet checkups and proper dental care are essential, no matter what your pet eats. -Dr. Jean Hofve, Holistic Vet

I'd suggest making an appointment with your vet so that they can assess how bad the problem is. Good luck!
