Yogurt What brand of plain yogurt is the best to feed Yorkies? Does the brand matter? :aimeeyork |
the brand doesn't matter, but, you want the non fat kind |
Just make sure it has live cultures. I give Lady Dannon lowfat. Activia also makes a plain yogurt. |
Thank you so much. YT has been so helpful! |
Do you mix the yogurt in with their kibble and how much do you use? |
Why yogurt??? To Make them happy or does it have a purpose??? |
I had asked on another thread about my Yorkie's ears and why they kept on going up and flopping down and I someone suggested yogurt because it was a good source of calcium. |
Cottage cheese is better for that Yogurt will just make him poop. |
What kind of cottage cheese is best to use? |
They sell one called Friendship Low-Sodium (or low-salt...I can't remember) cottage cheese. |

Yogurt is good for keeping a healthy balance of "good" bacteria in the gut. It helps with digestion. Cottage cheese is a good source of both calcium and protein. It's excellent for liver compromised dogs. |
My vet recently told me that yogurt (plain or vanilla) can be given to dogs/pups (about a teaspoon) to firm up their stool. ;) |
I used cottaged cheese in my dogs food one day cause he wasnt eating it....now he wont touch his food UNLESS theres a little cottage cheese it in. Ahh i just love my spoiled little boy! |
I give mine Dannon |
Don't use the fruit flavored ones; they contain too much sugar, and don't use the "sugar free" one's because they contain a sugar substitute that is harmful. Yogurt is especially useful, if you dog has ever been on antibiotics to restore beneficial bacteria, like Ladymom said, look for the ones that say "contain live cultures" and are lowfat. |
