Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() Roxie went into heat 3 days before she was scheduled to get spayed. I first say blood on May 31st. It has been about 40 days now and lately she seems to be acting a bit off. She usually inhales her food, now I have to coax her and then she will eat most of it. her nipples seem full, during her heat they seemed harder but not as full as they do now. She seems to be off in another room alot but then at night she seems like she is trying to climb into me she wants to be so close. She is playing some bit not fighting with Pixie like they usually do. When I looked up false pregnancy in my book, it sounded like it may be to early for her to be in one and she doesn't have all of the symptoms. Has anyone experienced this after a first heat? Does it sound like it could be a false pregnancy. Can the vet tell if so can they do anything for her since she really isn't acting that strange. Maybe I am being paranoid. Thanks for any input.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() Thanks for the reply. No she hasn't been near another dog other than my other 3 females. She wasn't even out of the house during her heat.

| ![]() Well we had my dog studded back in April. Everything was going good and thought my dog was going to have puppies end of Jun to the firts of Jly. Well last Sat I decided to take her to the vet as I had a funny feeling she might be having a false pregancy instead. Of course that is what they told me. She had everything but her nipples weren't full. But they can get the enlarged nipples and even get the milk in them. She has paced around with a toy or sock in her mouth and act like she is protecting her baby. She doesn't like to be around the other female dogs much and she was very clingy. She went through even the up and down temps that I took for over 1 week. All the vet told me to do is watch her out with the other females since her hormones are still in the baby mode. So if she is out with them she needs to be watched so she doesn't attack them. We were told to put her back on her reg diet and she should get back on track. Well she isn't eating too much but she is getting some better. Its said to see them walk around with a small stuffed toy and want a baby. I think she would have been a very good mom. I will try again the next heat cycle and see what happens.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() Thanks, she had been carrying around a stuffed animal but not the same one and she leaves it on the couch, where she never usually goes. But she is not obsessive about it. I may see how she goes the rest of the week and then have my vet check her out. Sounds like there's not much to do about it but wait it out. Also the vet wanted to reschedule her spay for later this month but I don't think you should spay them if they are in a false pregnancy.

| ![]() I had my yorkie studded on her 12th day of heat on Sept. 1 (2 times in one day). Since then she has many symptoms such as enlarged nipples, clear dischrge, very affectionate and a slight increase in weight. This is her 5th week and I do not see her belly getting bigger. My vet told me I had to wait til 55 days for x-ray to confirm but I dont want to spend the money to find out it is a false pregnancy. I am waiting as the whelp date is Nov.3. I just thought I would feel her tummy by now. Getting a dog pregnant seems to be a very tedious job! |
