Ugly Dog Contest 1 Attachment(s) :( I'm very upset:( yesterday a coworker came to my house and I had Max in my arms, so she and everyone else at work knows about Ivy and Max, so she came over to look at him and said "oh you could put him in an ugly dog contest" look at those ears. I can't believe she said that :eek: I didn't even know what to say she is a "friend" and she even has dogs!!??(Hotdog) He is still a puppy and I think he will still grow (only 9 months) But maybe he will always have big ears with one up and one down. I'm so mad and I needed to vent. What do you say to people when they say things like that:(Attachment 246886 |
people don't think when they make comments ... it doesn't mean it's true just cause it flew out of her big mouth - he's CUTE ! Don't let her make you feel bad. |
I know what you mean. I was walking my puppy the other day and my neighbors husband came out and said oh look at that rat. I said polietly no shes a yorkie and her name is Cora. He kinda looked at me. I haven't ever said anything rude about his black lab even though I don't really like big dogs. I have always said he is cute and took time to pet him, and even let him stay in my backyard one day while they were showing there house trying to sell it.....then he calls my dog a rat. |
1 Attachment(s) I don't blame you one bit for being mad! I'd be furious too! People would often make comments about Annie's tongue. She was a breeder at a puppy mill for 5 years before I got her. I had to have all her teeth pulled and her tongue always hung out. Most of the comments were positive, Oh what a cute dog, Oh that tongue is to die for, She is so adorable with her tongue out like that, etc. But occasionally I'd get an ugly comment, from people who don't even know me. I'd just give them a questioning look and ask why would you say that out loud about someone else's dog? Do you know why her tongue has to hang out? And then proceed to tell them that she lived in a wire cage only big enough to turn around in for 5 years. Never touch grass or had any other interaction with dogs or humans. That usually shut them up PDQ! And I always kept a calm manner and didn't attack them. Never once did anyone answer back with another comment. Usually they'd just say they were sorry, they didn't mean to say anything bad. My parting comment would be, if you don't mean anything bad, then don't say anything bad. I find the best thing to say when people are clueless like that is to calmly ask them, Why would you say that? It nearly always shuts them up. |
I think your baby is precious with the ears!!!! It makes him unique. I would be upset also, but just let it roll off your back. Poeple make stupid comments without thinking. |

3 Attachment(s) Since she has a dog too and said that about your dog - you could say: "Yes I could enter him in an Ugly Dog contest but he'd only come in second... AFTER your dog takes first place!" That was just a stupid thing for her to have said in the first place! I honestly think he is very C U T E! And re tongues hanging out - there doesn't have to be anything wrong with a dogs teeth or mouth for them to hang their tongues out all the time. My 2-year-old Shih Tzu hangs his tongue out 24/7/365. When I had him at a vet clinic last fall - the "experienced" vet took one look at him (for the first time ever) and said: Oh, he must be missing teeth. I said: Why? And she replied: Because his tongue is hanging out. I said it always did since I got him at 12 weeks of age. She checked his mouth and said: Nope, he has a perfect mouth - must just be a habit for him. Charlie still hangs his tongue out everyday even when he is sleeping. It makes him unique! :animal36 |
I would have said, "The reason I love him so much is because he reminds me of YOU!" Now, make sure you have a sweet innocent smile on your face when you say it. |

Max is adorable! Anyone who can't see that clearly has bad taste! I think the one ear up and down thing is cute and sets him apart. It only adds to his charm. I think I would try my hardest to respond with kindness. "Well, we think he's just perfect. It's funny I've never heard anyone say anything negative about his looks before." Kind of turn it around on them and make THEM feel like maybe they are ugly (at least on the inside). |

I can't believe how people can be so flat out rude like that. Especially to go into someone else's home and make negative comments like that. People like that would NOT be welcomed into my house. You should've said something like "Oh, are you really into those types of contests? Did you win one of them or something?" :p |
Usually I try to consider the source and just let things slide. But for some reason, reading this just really ticked me off - the protective mom in me is rearing its ugly head!. Taking my own advise, I am trying to consider the source and I do feel bad for people who feel the need to try to put others down - I think they are lacking something inside and probably hurt a lot. Even so, I just have to say - I think Max is absolutely adorable. I would love to hug and cuddle him and just give him tons of kisses. I have no desire to so much as meet your co-worker - let alone get friendly with her! Our babies are a gift from God - who cares what their ears are doing???? He looks like a happy and loving baby. And I would be willing to bet big money (that I don't have!) that Max wouldn't say anything unkind about your co-worker if he had the chance. :littleang I keep telling myself that I don't really like dogs better than people, but reading this just re-affirms that as a general rule I really do prefer dogs! Give Max some extra Idaho hugs and kisses from Roxy and me! |

My own grandmother told me that my Lucy, Dacshund was ugly, and i just told her to shut up,(not in a mean way though...) and that she is a beautiful girl! cuz she is! people are stupid, and they are probably jealous! |
The heck with her; I think he's adorable! I would love him to pieces! |
I'm impulsive. If I were you, I would've asked them point blank, "why on EARTH would you say that to another person's dog?". That is just rude to the rudest extent. When I take Mocha and Lulu for walks, thankfully no one came out and said anything bad yet. But if they said something to that effect, I would ask if they have dogs too, if they say yes, i will ask what breed, and no matter what breed they answer with, i will ask them how would they feel if i say that about their dogs. If they answer no they don't have dogs, then I will tell them they have no right to offer their opinions. My stepdad actually says Mocha looks like a mongrel.. I tell him Mocha is way more good looking than him. He tells me Lulu (my mom's dog, a shihtzu) is so pretty. I say you have no right to take pride in that, you have never brushed or bathed her a day in her life. He says why didnt you pick a better looking dog.. I say Mocha is beautiful to me, and you are ugly to me. :rolleye: I just think if they have a bad opinion, they should keep it to themselves. Why would you deliberately hurt another person's feeling? I don't believe anyone that says anything like that don't mean bad. They probably know they are hurting your feelings, they just don't care, or they take pleasure in that. Well, if that's the case, then I pity them. They will never know the real pleasure of owning dogs.. cute or not cute. All dogs are beautiful to me, because they have the same kind of friendly soul. I definitely like dogs better than people. :D I think Max is very, very cute. Mocha used to have one ear flopped down. It stood up after I shaved the ears, but even if it didn't, I would love her the same, probably more, because I know there will be others who will say she is ug** or not the standards or something, and that means she will need more love from me. I can't imagine having more love for her, but you get my point :) |
Unfortunately some people just do not think about what they say or how it may come across to others. These are usually the people who are the MOST sensitive when it comes to what others might say to them;). I wouldn't let it get to you, your baby's adorable:) |
:) 1 Attachment(s) Your baby is beautiful. What an adorable little cutie! The one ear up and one down adds character and adds to his cuteness. Don't let it bother you too much. People just tend to think without speaking. Mindless. I know how you feel I've had Odie for three years, he is not a yorkie he's a terrier mix though, and everyone, everyone tells me he's the ugliest dog they've ever seen. It used to really bother me, and still makes me angry sometimes. But to me Odie is so cute, and sweet and he's mine. He loves me and I love him and we know it. :) And thats all that matters. So, don't take it to heart, like I said people are just senseless thinkers sometimes. Here's my Odie. |

A:mad:nd another thing he just wanted to kiss her.:p:p |
Yea, who cares what other think. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Funny, men like to call small dogs Rats... I always call my baby ratface..hehe.. Call em what you like. He only answers to me..HAHA.. :p |

Your coworker is trying to make you feel bad. If you are on "good terms" chalk it up to her own personality flaw, be it tactlessness, jealousy, or an inferiority complex. This is how I also feel about some people who persist on calling a yorkie a "rat" when they know (or perhaps BECAUSE they know) it's offensive to the owner. |
I think the ears are adorable! Miles has HUGE ears for his size, and I think they're perfect. People comment on them all the time--almost always they're postivie comments. But I've heard a couple rude comments as well. My favorite was right here on YT...someone said that my dog was "really cute despite his ears". DESPITE?????? GRRRRRRR!!!!! |
I think he's adorable. I would have been furious too. |
I would say "And we could put you in an ugly people contest!" |
