Please advice ASAP!!! Jinju injured!!! Long, but MUST READ!!! 4 Attachment(s) I took Jinju in to get groomed by someone new b/c my other lady was kinda far. I just had a new baby and decided to just go somewhere close by. I buy my pet food from thie new place and saw lots of pics of other dogs they had groomed. The owner of the store had always been nice and so I decided what the heck. i dropped off Jinju and not even 1/2 hr. passed and I got a call. She had told me that her groomer had "nicked" my dog's ear and that it wasn't that bad, but that they would bring her into the vet, just to be sure, that all costs incurred at the vet would be paid by them. i was upset, and i told her to pls. bring her asap, and that i would be there. She told me she would call me back. Well, almost 3 hrs. later she calls back to say that they were back at her shop and to come and pick up the dog, that everything was okay. (???Weird, or what???) When I got there, she was standing there with the groomer and my dog. The groomer was apologizing profusely...She seemed to be sincerely sorry, but as for the owner...she was passing it off as not a big deal. They gave me the vet report along with antibiotics. What I saw was not a "nick", but a CHUNK of her hear gone!!! I was standing with baby in my arms and my older son was holding Jinju, who was just so happy to see us. I got home and my hubby was FUMING!!! i also should mention that the owner told me that the vet said her ear would "grow back" which was a lie as I called the attending vet and he told me that would not be possible. My husband called and tried to talk to the owner, asking her for an explanation, and you know what she did? She HUNG UP ON HIM! as if we did something wrong! We drove back to her store and tried to talk to her, but she was accusing us of wanting to take advantage of her and that we should be ashamed of ourselves. When my hubby mentioned she hadn't even apologized once, she had the nerve to ask if we wanted her to get down on her knees!!! she was yelling and would NOT APOLOGIZE. there were ppl standing and listening, telling us to not let her get away with this. What are my options? My dog can't get her ear back, but I can't let this lady get away with injuring my dog and not even being sorry! i don;t want the money, cuz it's not gonna fix her ear, but I would like to sue her to teach her a big fat lesson. Can i do that? I live in Ontario and need somewhere to start. Please, please please gimme some advice. I'm going insane thinking that my dog is hurting and that this horrible lady is gonna get away with doing this! If you live in Mississauga, DO NOT got to Little Teddy's Pet Food: Little Teddy Pet Foods Inc - Online Pet Product Store! Pet Supplies For A Happy Pet! Dogs, Cats, Grooming, Printing and more! |
OH MY GOD!! I can't believe the size of the chunck missing, this makes me sick just looking at it. You need to get legal advise on this as I don't know if you can sue the owner/company or if you can only sue the groomer that did the damage ( you mentioned the groomer was very upset and appologised )but for the owner to dismiss this as minor is very upsetting and unproffesional in my books. oh no!!!!! i am so sorry that happened to Jinju. How is she doing now? is she ok? does it still hurt? does she have medicine to take for it? I am sorry this happened. I would definitely sue, that owner is impossibly rude and mean. what is her problem! she is a very irresponsible, unprofessional, and rude owner! |
oh my gosh. that looks like a bite! wow. i am at a loss for words. i hope your baby is okay. yes you can sue for many things... find a good attorney. do not contact this lady anymore. only contact her through your attorney. i know your not in it for the money, but you most likely will get her place shut down or at least get her groomer certification pulled. also a great case to keep the bbb in business. good luck. |
if you need to ask a legal question, you can post your question at this site: AllExperts Questions & Answers there is an animal section, and a legal section, you might try both. good luck!!! |
You most deffinately CAN sue and you should! They cut a CHUNK out of your babies ear!! The groomer is not the one legally responsible the owner is, since she is the one who hired her and assumes responsablity for the bussiness. This is why she is licenced and not the groomer.... I am so sorry this happened. Your poor pup, what a retarded owner telling you it will grow back, it sound as though this woman needs to go back to school, last time I checked if you cut off a body part you can't grow it back. I am so mad for you (at this woman)! |
I am so sorry this happened to your baby. I used to manage a huge grooomers which is now a school. Get yourself a greeat Attoeneyand sue the pants of this Bitch. It will teach her a lesson. It wont give you your your beloved ear back but a bit of satisfaction. Good luck. Love, Vicki&Nya |
The last time I took my baby to petco (need I repeat... the last time I took my baby to petco...lol) they cut off a chunk of Dax's tongue and did not even tell me. Like I would not notice..... it did not seem to bother him but I did not take him back there and when I called they denied it . Unbelievable. But anyway now I take him to this lady who grooms out of her home and she is great plus it only costs about 1/3 as much. Looking back over the last year I have been very angry and would tell anyone I knew not to take their dogs to petco, but at least I did find a great groomer because of it. |
One more thing to add.... I thought my Dax would be traumitized to go to the groomer again but because of this great lady I found he still loves it. When you take your baby the next time to someone new try not to have anxiety about it and your baby will not feel your apprehension and be afraid. Good luck and I hope even if you do not end up sueing that you make sure others know about what happened. I did not try to sue Petco grooming but I did give them plenty of undesireable free advertising :D. |
I have to admit that while I was reading your thread....I wondered if you were just exagerating the situation a bit.....so ...when I enlarged your pics I was horrified!!!! I cannot believe how much of your babies ear has been cut off!!!!! How in the world did that happen?? I would definately SUE that owner!!!!! She has ALOT of nerve yelling at YOU for what her groomer did!!!!! How unprofessional!!! And then telling you it will grow back???? Does she have a brain in that stupid head of hers???? What BS!!! That alone would have ticked me off enough that I would sue her butt, even if she had been cordial and Apologetic!!!! Good luck and find a good attorney!!!! SHE NEEDS to learn a BIG lesson!!!! I hope your poor little baby is ok!!! And not in alot of pain!!!! Please keep up updated on the situation!!! |
I absolutely cannot BELIEVE your baby's ear! I would be livid! I'm so sorry this happened to ya'll. That shop owner's behavior is unbelievable! |
Ouch! That poor baby, that had to have hurt horribly! How on earth, did she manage to do that, with scissors or clippers, or did she even explain? OMG.....I can't believe it's that big a chunk and she acted like no big deal, WTH! Ordinarily I'm not one to promote lawsuits, in this case though - you HAVE to sue her and try to put her out of business. It's the right thing to do - you don't want her to do this to another baby. I'm sure accidents do happen occasionally but for her to not even apologize and to get angry at you all, sounds like her trying to cover up for guilt - because YES, as the shop owner she is still responsible. No, it's not going to grow back and that's too bad but I think after it heals and the hair starts to grow back......if you let it grow out a little longer on his ears you probably won't be able to see the damage near as much. Good luck and do keep us updated, please. |
Wow, that is quite a chunk. Was is bleeding? It looks pretty healed.. I would think it would have bled for awhile. What vet did they go to? Why not YOUR vet? What did the vet do? |
What a horrific story! This groomer is the groomer from hell! She needs to be put out of business! You could contact the local newspapers so they can publish your story. Maybe some other unsatisfied customers of her come forward and you could go against her together. I would also contact Animal Control and ask if they have any advice and of course City Council and the local Camber of Commerce. They need to know of such a bad reputaded business in your town! Please give your poor little girl kisses from the M&Ms!!! |
Wow - I feel so sorry for your puppy and you. I too didn't think it would be much of a injury until I saw the pictures - wow! It looks so red and painful - poor puppy! I don't know what you can do but there MUST be something. Go to the head person. Is there anyone 'over' the owner of this place? Is it a chain franchise? I would be SO upset if it happened to my baby! Something more MUST be done so that it doesn't happen to someone else and just the attitude of the owner is enough to :mad::mad: me! Good luck and keep us posted please! |
I can't believe that! I feel so bad for his little ear. Is Jinju doing alright? I would definitly take action against her. |
Thank you YTers... To everyone who wrote with advice...THANK YOU SO MUCH, it's wonderful that I can always count on this forum to get support and advice whenI need it. Jinju is alright. She's a real trooper, but everytime we look at her, we just feel soooo bad. Her ears were perfect little Yorkie ears, and now it there's a huge piece missing. I know the aesthetics of the dog isn't important, b/c I love my girl just as much, but it's so THERE. BUT, overall, she seem fine. We have been giving her Clavamox drops 2x a day just in case. I have decided that YES...we will take legal action against this cruel and horribly insensitive lady. She needs to be given a rude awakening...How dare she treat us that way and be so non-chalant...a "nick"? Please... I will keep everybody posted...:aimeeyork If there is anymore advice or info, keep it comin'! I need all the advice I can get. Thank you all, Mona, Jinju and Family. |
I'm totally speechless! Poor, poor puppy! You really need to pursue this for jinju's sake and for all the other puppies out there that may suffer in the hands of these unprofessionals! |

poor dax... i am learning to groom by myself.. definitely sue her for damages...poor doggies:animal36 |
My heart stopped when I saw that big chunk missing. Thats crazy the owner would act like that. You would think the owner would be overly concerned, its obvious he is in the wrong business. I am glad you are going to take legal action, he definetly needs to be taught a HUGE lesson. I am also glad your baby is not in pain. |
Your poor baby!!! I am a groomer and I have to tell you that is not a "nick". It took some serious negligence by the groomer to do that. I seriously can't even imagine how she did it??? The pattern of the cut is so odd I have no clue what she could have been doing to make a cut like that? She shouldn't have been "tipping" the ear that far down? and even if she was it is still an odd looking cut. And then for the owner to treat you that way. I would definitely go to the local papers with your story! I am sorry you and your baby had such a bad experience. |
I agree that the ear looks bad and I would be upset too if it were my dog but would not pursue legal action. Having raised yorkies for 12 years and knowing a number of groomers and grooming my own dogs, I know that unfortunately accidents do happen. Sometimes a dog will suddenly move or jerk and accidentally cause a cut or nick. Groomers are only human and they all make mistakes sooner or later. I am sure the owner might have been down playing the incident hoping you would not get as upset. I think it was very responsible of the owner to take her to the vet and get her checked out. Many groomers would probably not do anything and hope you did not notice. |

I don't know what I'd do in this situation, but I'd be tempted to cut off a piece of her ear! |
I am just stunned! I agree with others here that the owner should be held accountable. The insensitivity is incredible. |
On a personal note, I think it's horrible that Jinju's ear was damaged like that. It *does* look more like a bite than a nick, but the cause is irrelevant. Cosmetically speaking, if you let the hair on her ears grow farther up, just having the tips groomed, you will be able to disguise the missing chunk -- it will be hidden by her hair. It doesn't make it right, but at least you will be able to mitigate the damage somewhat. She's a cutie: it's a shame she looks like she got in the ring with Mike Tyson. |
That's terrible. It looks so red and painful. |
To bjh: I understand your point of view. I, myself, told the groomer that things can happen while grooming a dog. And yes, they did take my dog to a vet, which was the RIGHT THING TO DO. BUT, the owner was a total B*%CH about it. When my husband called her, she hung up on him! Not only that, but she lied to me by saying the ear would grow back! How do you downplay taking a hunk of a dog's ear off? Please take a CLOSE look at Jinju's ear. It is a big piece missing. |
Your poor dog! I hope he is not in pain. I took my dog to this Pet Value groomer and he scraped by male dog (Cody) so close to the skin on his genitals area that is was raw for a few days. My poor Cody keeps licking his wound and I could tell he is so uncomfortable. I have to keep an eye on him for a few days. These dog groomers should be sued. They think that because the dogs cannot tell us what was happening inside the grooming room, we would not know. That is why I am looking for a grooming academy or something that will teach me how to groom my dogs properly as I am afraid to take them to one. I think I have more anxiety than my dogs when I take them to be groomed. HOpe your dog heals faster and not in pain. Go sue the "SOB" owner who is so *******ed rude. It should teach her a lesson and who knows, she must have done this to some other dogs as well (maybe not nipping the ear) but some injury that the owner cannot tell visibly. Good luck and keep us posted. |
I would sue and do not agree with BJH at all. What about little kids that squiggle and move would it be an acceptable accident to cut off part of their ear? If a groomer is careful accidents never have to happen. I have groomed my dogs and other peoples dogs for over 20 years and never once cut off a chunk of ear! I hope you get them closed down! |
Omg your poor baby :( I can not believe the nerve of that woman  Someone should cut off a peice of HER ear and act like it\'s no big deal...I wonder how she\'d feel about it then! |
