Silver yorkie? My pup is tan and black, but the black is turning silvery gray underneath. I was wondering if this is common and if anyone who has a yorkie that looks this way can post a photo for me to see how she may turn out?? Thanks! |
1 Attachment(s) They all pretty much change colors. Here is a picture of my Smokey. He's all silver. |
The silver grey on her head will probably change to gold. They all start out with silver/grey. |
1 Attachment(s) 2 of my 5 are silver......I'll try posting their picture. Deuce is standing and Halo is laying down. Aren't they cuties?:D Ok, so I only got Deuce......little stinker! |
My Hallie is silver. I got her when she was 2.5 so I'm not sure what she looked like as a baby but she is a pretty silver and tan now. |
1 Attachment(s) My girl Cricket was blk/tan when we got her an she is now all silver, I have posted a picture. You may not can see a whole lot since she has her shirt on but you can see how silver she is toward her back |
being that you baby is still a puppy, she is beginning to break color...normal on the head the black will turn silver then the silver with turn gold or tan...and the body will turn from black to steel blue, blue or silver...hope that helps! |
2 Attachment(s) I have Krissy and her daughter Kayla that are so silver the shine! I'm lucky to have a black one and dark gray too. |
They all seem to change different ways. So can't help you much but you will love them all the same. |
Ahh, ok... thank you so much everyone! I didn't really know how that all worked... I never had dogs growing up and this is only my third dog so I am still learning. Plus it is my first Yorkie! |
Hi! I found this post while researching my very silver yorkie. I just wanted to share what she looks like and how much her color changed from puppy to now (5 years old). And if anyone is still reading this post, I would be very interested in finding out more about her unique color. HI all. I am new to the site and also a new Yorkie owner. We love her so much. I do have some quesitons if any one can help me. I also was wondering about the silver from black. My pup is all black with Brown feet and face. I can see silver under. Do you think she will be all silver? Also she is 10 weeks and weighs 2.2 lbs. I was told she will be 3 lbs. After seeing and reading up on yorkies and health issues I am hoping she will be a bit more then that. She has grown some already this week. One more thing, I am going to try to litter box train her. Any advise? |
1 Attachment(s) Copper is 5 months old. I ended up cutting all of his black coat off because of the tangles. I understand this happens with the puppy coat. Here is a picture of his gray or silvery color that was underneath. The texture is much better now. I believe he will turn tan like his mom and dad eventually. Doesn't matter...love him no matter what! |
Awww how cute! Thanks so much for the reply. Just to clear things up, I don't care if my pup turns purple. makes no difference to me. I was just surprised to see the sliver. Your Dog is adorable, Thanks again. |
2 Attachment(s) My Levi is silver too! I am looking for good pictures of his coat coloring... |

To get more responses to your questions, try starting a new thread. If you need help, just say the word and I'll help. All puppies go through a transformation. All are born black and tan (except parti yorkies) and then go through a transformation. |
.. Hello, I have an all silver Tiny Yorkie. I am unable to post here but you are welcome to look under my profile in my Albums. Im sure your yorkie will still look adorable :D Quote:

How long does the 'transformation' take? My Yorkie's top of the head was black. Quickly turned more white than silver. He is 5 months now. Will his white top turn brown or is the white his permanent color? |

As for how long it takes, some change colors quickly and keep changing for a while, others are slow. I have read that those that break their color really slowly, or later on tend to keep a much darker. Here's an example of my baby. He broke his color later on, and still is pretty dark. This is Kaji, formerly Bear. :) Before his first birthday Attachment 317756 at a year and nine months.Attachment 317757 Attachment 317758 |

Hi everyone! When do they stop changing color? Juliette's mom is grey and her dad is tan. She was born black and tan but her black back is looking like it might turn grey and her face is tan and grey. What do I put on her registration papers? I need to get those in but I am unsure as to what color put down. The choices I have are 018 Black & Tan, 041 Blue & Gold, 044 Blue & Tan, 234 Black & Gold. She will be a year in a couple of weeks. She hasn't had a hair cut yet but after all your posts my scissors are ready! LOL *SMILE* Léonie owned by Juliette |
It looks like the gray in Kaji's face turned tan. Beautiful dog! I hope Juliette's stays grey! I really like it. *SMILE* Léonie owned by Juliette |
Isn't that a gorgeous coloring. What do you have down for him on his registration papers? *SMILE* Léonie owned by Juliette |

To find what to check, I would ask your breeder. They should know how to evaluate their own pups. |
I am fairly new to the yorkie world as well. But my Roxie is silver and tan; She is my avatar picture, I will try and find better photos to post of her coloring. Welcome! |
Buddy was black and tan, now he is silver with a hint of black still in his tail, his legs are golden and so is his head, it strange really when you think you have bought a black dog and he turns out silver, his coat is like human hair as well |
all yorkies change colors, i believe most of them are always black and tan as puppies, my baby is 9 months and his head is all silver and his body is still black with a bit of silver coming through |
